Yes, hopefully we can provide you with some fun and distraction, and hopefully the boys can jag a few wins. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately I won't be up and about as quickly as you, GTC old son.
Back home, but with considerable pain. Surgeon explained that he's freed up the nerve root (C8) but the referred pain (back and right arm) will take a few weeks to ease up. It's now up to my nervous system to repair this referred pain. Plus an incredibly sore throat due to that metal rod they shove down your neck during surgery to keep you breathing!
Glad to be home, but gotta take it easy for a coupla weeks or so. Yep, with plenty of pain meds whilst the system gets to work with repairs.
Please don't think there's any 'woe is me' stuff going on. Nuh. It is what it is and now to just be patient with the healing process - not my strong suit!
Sorry to hear youre in pain mate, but sounds like it all went to plan which is the important bit.
As I said, I woke up from surgery and the bloke next to me had the same thing done by the same surgeon and we were both pain free. Different horses I guess, as you say patience is what is required so sit back and enjoy the Carlton 2025 season resurgence.

Hi Baggers. I've just caught up with the last few pages of this thread and read about your operation.

All the best for a speedy recovery.  Let's hope a happy ending on Saturday will let your thoughts wander into positive territory.

I've only just caught up too Shane.

One positive is that you got through the surgery so it should be onwards and upwards from here on.

Just remember that the healing process takes time and you have to be patient, but it will be well worth it in the long run.

Let's hope our team pulls its collective finger out and gives you some good news on the footy front!
It's still the Gulf of Mexico, Don Old!

Thank you, Pauly... and all the positive encouragement from fellow CSCers. Yep, being on here does help.
I loved your biblical analysis in another thread - a good read.

Pauly I had my surgery on the Thursday and I was back at work the following Tuesday. Its remarkable how quickly one recovers from it.

Sorry to hear you are in pain Baggers, dont be shy taking the meds and yep that breathing pipe makes for a bad sore throat which can linger. You are allowed some woe is me stuff too, age qualifies you and you are doing well to be at home starting your recovery.

When the British Supreme Court ruled this week definitvely and unanimously that the legal definition of a woman  is based on persons sex at birth, ie a biological female, I felt that just a tiny bit of sanity was restored in the mad world we live in.
Maybe there is an ounce of common sense left in humanity.

We can now say with near total confidence that the British Supreme Court is as moronic, fascistic and corrupt as its American counterpart. Because the over 99% need protection from the less than 1%. I'm guessing sales of No-Doz will skyrocket as people who volunteer to be dunny monitors wait in vain for that once in a lifetime chance to see a real trans person sneak in to pee on the sly.

Okay, I'll peer into your can of worms, GTC old son.

Firstly, I get that you need a legal definition of sex for all manner of documentation through a person's life. However... ah, yes, the old 'however' I do note that a lot of documentation these days allows for other identifications of gender/sexuality, so there is legal acceptance (in Oz) for folks who may have a biologically clear sex (but hang on, what about the reality of some folks being born with both female and male sex organs or even ambivalent identifiable sex organs!) but psychologically, not so clear cut.

So, acceptance of difference is pretty darn important... in many things in life. Sheesh, even acceptance of sliding scales and nuance within sexuality can be a challenge for some wearing the hat of judge and jury, my way or the highway, if you aint like me or share my views there's something wrong with you. But none suffer moreso than those who are 'different' to the strict, black and white interpretations of gender and sexuality, they're often subjected to abuse, exclusion & even violence... for being 'different.'

To perhaps come closer to home, GTC, and the abuse some receive due to 'difference' I vividly recall as a teenager in the late sixties and beyond, if you were Greek or Italian at school and in the workplace you were unfairly judged for being a 'foreigner; a new Australian.' And subjected to all manner of cruel abuse. Perhaps fortunately, my father employed just about only Greek and Italian workers as he saw beyond the racism and looked at, simply, how good and reliable a worker you were. And to him, Greeks and Italians came up aces... so this little black duck was brought up with many 'foreigners' coming to our family home. Added to that was my family of origin involvement in the arts/theatre so I also had considerable contact with the gay community, and although hetro myself, I never felt threatened, in fact my memories are off incredible creativity and fun brought by these folks into our home.

And as for common sense, well, that ship sailed long ago. Especially, in some quarters, along with decency and civility.

Not sure if there are any Midnight Oil fans on here, but Rob Hirst, the drummer, has been battling pancreatic cancer for a couple of years. A bastard of a disease if ever there was one.

FIL died from this. Horrible illness.

Poor bugger never smoked a single fag in his life, was pretty fit, only an occasional drinker and also was an absolute gentleman and amazing father who never saw a doctors surgery in 61 years but then went with an itch across his whole body, upper stomach pain and slight yellowing of his eyes.

Came home and without even doing a single test at this stage the doctor prepared him for what was likely to come and sadly scans confirmed it. His op was a success but came back and only lived about a year.  Have several very unhealthy looking relatives in their mid 80s now, who were always stressed, overweight/obese, all smoked and some still do and drink regularly and all still going!  One has had 4 open heart surgeries !

Enjoy your life folks everything in moderation as IMO fate has the biggest say in when our time is up.
