I'd just like to acknowledge Australian Test captain Alyssa Healy's wonderful career now that she has announced her retirement.  She has had an outstanding career in all forms of the game.

I really enjoyed listening to her insights in the commentary box.  She is extremely knowledgeable, speaks clearly and explains things very well, and has a good sense of humour without being blokey.  I think part of her post-playing career is sewn up!

Congratulations!
Agreed, a stellar career, and perhaps not dissimilar to Gilchrist in changing the way Keeper's are perceived.

The girls are really showing that in some sports the difference in performance between men and women can quite small. I accept we are unlikely to see a 200cm 150kph bowler in the women's competition, but there are already plenty pushing towards the 130kph mark and that's plenty by the standards of the vast majority of cricketers male or female.

Yep well done to Alyssa Healy, agree she is good value in the commentary box and gives straight forward views on the game which I like. Interesting her other half Mitchell Starc has attributed his good form and exceptional fitness this summer to giving up the booze during the series. England it seems took the opposite approach of increasing their alcohol intake and there have been reports of players fronting up to the Perth Test overweight.
Maybe Bazball should be renamed Boozeball, I cant see how McCullum survives given the English off field culture is Rat crape and the Management wont call out the bad behaviour and lack of professionalism from the playing group.

I know this thread is for test cricket (mostly), but today's T20 performances against Zimbabwe was unbelievably poor. Losing to these guys is unacceptable on any deck.
Mind you, we seem to playing all of our games on low turners.
What does it say about our ability o play spin? You don't need to be a genius to guess what I think.

It’s the cricket thread now Crash 🙂

I think that T20 encourages the adoption of set approaches to batting that may not cope with a deviation from the usual bowling attack.  I suspect that under age T20 competitions are more formulaic and teams are more susceptible to something different.

I was thinking about the outrage such a pitch would cause here, the top tier have become prima donnas. They rated the MCG pitch poor and that pitch good!

Young spinners are marginalised at club level and don't develop. Cue the Vic spinner missing the last test in Sydney. Every weekend I see club sides crumble against spin but it's so hard for such kids to continue without support.
Our T20 side is made up of average players and over the hill types...for example, Stoinis hasn't delivered when it matters for a long, long time. Our T20 stalwarts are big players in a small pond and get shown up on the bigger stage.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

The main reason we struggle is most of the
other countries prioritize the short format games and put their resources into where they can make the most money.
The players all cross pollinate into the different high paying leagues and it's test cricket now which is the novelty game for a lot of nations. How many players can play test cricket compared to the number playing in short format teams.
Italy won their first WC game, two brothers from Sydney Australia with Italian heritage led the way...

I reckon that the main reason we struggle is that we send undermanned and under-prepared teams.

I think I'll barrack for Italy now  :)

The Italian team has a bit of a world eleven look to it but has a strong Australian flavour with two sets of brothers..the Mosca's and the Manenti brothers, the latter pair have played Big bash and may have played some shield cricket.
Curiosity meant I had to google the origins of cricket in Italy and found Admiral Nelson organised the first cricket match in Italy in the city of Naples and the Italian Cricket Federation
was started by embassy staff and foreign educators in the 1960's.
Of course that led to looking for AFL Football in Italy and I was pleasantly surprised....The 2010 AFL Italia Premiership was the inaugural season for the Australian rules football league in Italy, culminating in a Grand Final on September 4, 2010, at the Capitolina Rugby Field in Rome.
Key 2010 AFL Italia Results:
Champions: The Roma Blues won the inaugural AFL Italia Premiership (the "Scudetto(Little Shield)"), defeating the Milano Aussie Rules.
Grand Final Details: The Roma Blues defeated Milano (who were minor premiers) in a closely contested match. Despite a tight first half (55–54 at half-time), Rome pulled away in the third quarter with 6 unanswered goals, ultimately winning by a margin of roughly 3 goals.
Apologies for HiJacking the cricket thread...I am now a Roma Blues supporter....I think Tony DeBolfo had some connection or did an article somewhere on the Roma Blues.
