Re: Track and Field Reply #180 – April 12, 2026, 10:08:29 pm I'm not sure what's gone on in that 200m race but just about everyone's run a PB by a couple of tenths.Murphy's 19.88 was a pb by about 6/10thsI don't think anyone had him pegged as a sub 20 runner.Kennedy's in superb form and no doubt would have broken 20 as well but he pulled up sore from the 100mThat tailwind must have chased them around the bend. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear a bit more about this. The run is a legitimate time and the wind gauge people would be proficient but..Kennedy 9.96 x 2Gout 19.67Murphy 19.88.No one would have predicted those times being legally run before the race. It's extraordinary.I don't think it's a case of 'The Games' scenario where the track was a metre short. But the track has been upgraded and you wonder whether that's giving some assistance above a legitimate level. That may be investigated. It will be interesting to see if the records are ratified.Countering that is the fact that the Women's times in the 100 and 200 were average so maybe the guys just did have a day out.I had a message from a friend who said there was a strong wind around the bend. Wind readings are only taken in the straight which is one of the anomalies of 200 metres running Quote Selected Last Edit: April 13, 2026, 02:52:25 pm by Lods 2 Likes

Re: Track and Field Reply #188 – Today at 09:17:17 am I can confirm that shoe technology makes a massive difference. I used to run, until I discovered the osteo arthritis in my knee (TLDR, hard surface running activities are done for the rest of my life).I have two pairs of Asics Gel Nimbus in my rotation for just walking now. One of them has a much thicker and spongier sole than the other. This one, almost has what I would call a springing motion in it. It efficiently transfers energy through my legs making running effortless. The other is a much firmer sole. There is perhaps 2 iterations different between them (say the Asics Gel Nimubs 24 and the 22) but the shoe feel is remarkably different. 22: https://www.goat.com/en-au/sneakers/gel-nimbus-22-lite-show-white-sunrise-red-1011a890-10024: https://www.amazon.com.au/ASICS-Mens-Gel-Nimbus-Running-Shoes/dp/B09CLM9LSV?th=1&psc=1These are the exact same colours and shoe I own. The difference between them is remarkable, and they have re-engineered them again since to make the newer models different again. I havent bothered replacing them as Im not wearing through shoes like I did when I was regularly running for 5 kms plus. Not surprising that it would be different at the elite level. Shoe tech is always progressing, but of the two pairs I own, the 24's feel like cheating. Quote Selected
