What position is Lucas going to play, I thought the opening was more suited to a specific mid like Ben?

Binns might be clearing out his locker on Friday I reckon.

Need to find a trade for him to move out because he is contracted for next year.

Lucas has been spending some time down back in the VFL, maybe its just normal rookie education or maybe they want to train him specifically in that small /half back rebound role which a lot of clubs entrust to lefties.

For the love of everything that is good and holy I hope this is the last time I see three small forwards on the bench.

You can’t have too many small forwards … when they’re part of the midfield rotations and playing the high half forward role.

Apart from pretending that TDK is a key forward, that’s a well-balanced line up.

Our line-up:
B:    42 Adam Saad   23 Jacob Weitering   32 Matthew Carroll
HB:   2 Lachlan Cowan   33 Lewis Young   26 Nick Haynes
C:   18 Sam Walsh   9 Patrick Cripps   4 Oliver Hollands
HF:   6 Zac Williams   10 Harry McKay   13 Blake Acres
F:   45 Flynn Young   12 Tom De Koning  44 Francis Evans
R:   40 Hudson O'Keeffe   29 George Hewett   43 Ashton Moir
Int:   35 Billy Wilson   19 Corey Durdin   3 Jesse Motlop   21 Lucas Camporeale   38 Will White
Em:   16 Ben Camporeale   27 Marc Pittonet   11 Mitch McGovern

Yes, we do have our injuries. :( I don't think we'll miss Fog as much as we'll miss Cooper Lord.
Our forward structure ... I guess it is similar to last week's, but it looks unbalanced to me. As does our defence, but these are the guys who are still fit.
I wouldn't have minded seeing Charleson getting game; he has been good for the back half of the season. Who to play negative? I don't think we have someone, unless we use George Hewett.

I am really p*ssed at the AFL for having this on a Thursday night, as I can't get to any Thursday night game. I've missed about a quarter of our game because they keep putting us on Thursday night. I've written to them, but they'll probably just ignore it.

Lucas has played most of his recent footy as a small defender and he’s done pretty well.  He’s possibly a little too fearless for his own good.

I don’t know what the future will hold for him but he’s had pretty good preparation.  It’s bad luck Ben’s suspension (well deserved but a little to severe in my opinion) borked his chances of a debut.

I just hope Weiters isn’t too tough on young Lucas.  He’s probably more concerned about earning Weiters’ approval than taking on his Essenscum opponents.

Nine goals in a match as a 17yo for Dandenong Stingrays perhaps suggests that Tom is yet to show us his real potential as a key forward.

I once kicked three goals for Coburg Ammos but, unlike Robert Walls and Phil Cleary, didn’t really kick on 🙄

Tom has had plenty of opportunities to show his wares as a key forward and, if anything, he has shown that he’s a ruckman first and foremost.

I really hope that St Kilda tries to use him as a key forward, but I don’t think Lyon’s sense of self-preservation will allow that.

TDK has the height and athleticism to dominate under age opposition without having the skills needed to play as a KPP

I saw on fox footy a few weeks ago that TDK is ranked like 280 in the comp as a forward. Poor.

In the first 7 rounds fully fit as a sole full time ruck he was the 3rd ranked player in the league.

He's a A-Grade Ruckmen who can rest forward, he's not a KPF.

The Aints do not need a KPF, when King is fit they have probably already got the best in the business at the moment, what they need is a backup for the best in the business.

The Aints big problem is Ross The Boss, because his game tactics waste good KPFs, I'm pegging if they pay up big he's on limited time.

Personally, without significant changes to the ruck rules, The Aints are paying way overs. For us it's a gamble to match the offer, I bet if Carlton do / did match any offer then magically the rules wouldn't change.

The ruck rules are changing. Greg Swann has put it top of the agenda.

Top of the agenda and making it happen are two different things, and assuming the rules change in the way we think is also another bit of speculation.

I doubt a rule change that puts the ruck style back to 2023/24 will happen, it will be opposed by too many influential clubs like Geelong, Richmond and Hawthorn. And it certainly won't be like Swann wants, the ACL chaos of a decade or two back!

The only rucks that would currently benefit to a wind back would be TDK, Jackson and Draper, pretty much everyone else would oppose it.

With the unavailability of Harry O’Farrell, six of our seven 2025 AFL debutants will take the field  tonight.  Add in Haynes and Evans and that’s nine players in their first AFL season with us.

Our only recruits to miss out are Jagga Smith (who was destined to play in Round 1), Ben Camporeale (stiffed by suspension), Harry Charleson and Matt Duffy.

Yes, injuries have played a part, but that’s still an admirable effort by our list managers, particularly when more established players like Pitto, Gov, Raz, Cinc and Boydy miss out.

Now they have to perform!

A quick PS; nine changes from the team that played Essendon in Round 13; three omissions, one retirement and five injuries.
