AFLW List Management 2026

Yes, it is that time of year again, when players get moved on.
We've announced 3 changes today:
[1] Tarni Brown: daughter of Collingwood's ..., we traded for Tarni a couple of drafts back. She played most games last season, but has a 'medical condition' (unspecified), which left her off the park this years. She has decided to retire, as she doesn't think she can perform at the highest level any longer.
[2] Eliza Wood: our VFL Captain this year, she was promoted when Kerryn Peterson took a year off to have a baby. She didn't manage a senior game this year, mainly die to senior injury. I have no idea if she will go back to our VFL side or not, as her knee will take some time to recover from.
[3] Charlotte Brewer: another SSP selection, replacing Eliza Wood when she got injured. Charlotte didn't play a game this year.

It will be interesting to see if Kerryn Peterson returns. She had her baby in August.

Already there have been rumours of young talent from elsewhere looking to come here.

Unlike the mens team, there is real optimism with list changes and 'the place to be'.
Not one person wants out, yet everyone wants in.

Wonder who we will target

Time to create this thread, ready for the trade and draft period.
Something says we don't like the years women's crop much better than we liked the 2025 men's cohort; we've traded out our 1st and 3rd round picks.
Instead, it looks like we're going to be an aggressive trader.

Out:
[1] Kerryn Peterson:
A hard call, but we do seem to be going young. And a lot of girls want to be in our colours. The question will be, is it a year early? Possibly. But better to go out before you get dropped.

[2] Tarni Brown:
After an excellent first season with us, Tarni has struggled and wasn't available this season at all. She pulled the pin, thinking that she'd never get back to her best again. A pity, but there it is.

[3] Charlotte Brewer:
The replacement of the replacement, Charlotte never really got a chance to show off her wares, not with Jess Good in career best form.

[4] Eliza Wood:
Our VFL captain, who originally replaced Kerryn Peterson, but who then had an ACL. Hope to see her back in VFL ranks at some stage.

For all that, it didn't open many spots on our list.
We have been linked to 4 or 5 young ladies at this point, so it will be interesting to see who we manage to land.

This deal will see Claudia Whitford and Lauren Bella land at Carlton for Pick 19 and the F2 that's tied to North Melbourne. All agreed and lodged.

26yo Midfielder and 25yo ruck. Should both be in our best 21.

Will be interesting to see what we do with Good and Harrington here.
I know there has been some interest around Good who just lost her best mate Kez. Good is also 31, so could be beneficial to cash in now. Bree is still only 28 with a bit of footy ahead of her, could also be moved forward after Bohanna retires who is 30.

Keeley Skepper traded to west coast.

Skepper + future 4th -> West Coast
Pick 66 + future 5th -> Carlton

Sounds like a salary dump to me.

Honestly don't understand what happened, i'd have her in my best 21. She was there for the better part of 18months before she was dropped, never to return.

Wish her the best.

Mia Austin appears also headed out, which surprises me a little. This season included her best games.
She looks headed to Melbourne.

Definitely her best year, but in but sure what time she plays for us.
Sophie and poppy were revelations for us up forward. May have taken her spot.
I suspect bree week spend more time forwards next year with our recent ruck recruiting as well. Bohanna is a better option up forward as well and due the 5th you'd probably want someone better on the deck, Keck should be that person long term but I'm not happy with her output this far.
Ideally vescio plays fp next year imo.

After trad week our situation lies like this:

Ins:
[1]   Brooke Boileau
170 cm   28/01/2005      Originally from South Adelaide
Traded from Adelaide, Brooke is a young inside-mid who really broke out this season.

[2]   Lauen Bella
188 cm   12/09/2000      Originally from Sarina (near Mackay)
Traded from Gold Coast where she was one of the competition’s premier rucks. Will bolster our talls leading into the future.

[3]   Claudia Whitfort:
171 cm   31/07/1999      Originally from Casey Demons
Traded from Gold Coast, Whitfort is an excellent athletic defender. We are her 4th AFLW club! Not bad for someone as young as she is.

Outs:
We traded out 3 players, had one retire and did not renew the contracts on two players who replaced the 3rd. Sounds messy, but we’ve actually only got 2 free list spots at the moment. There may well be further changes, as we have our 1st, 2nd and 3rd round selections for this draft.
On the other hand, we don’t appear to think much of next year’s crop, as we have basically traded out of it.

[1]   Kerryn Peterson
Our former Captain, it was a big call not to renew her contract. Not sure what her plans are at this point, but she remains one of the clubs Physios.

[2]   Eliza Wood
The injury replacement player for Kez, she did an ACL and never got on the field. She was our VFLW Captain, so I’m not sure what is going to happen there, but she may miss the next season if her knee is slow in responding.

[3]   Charlotte Brewer
The injury replacement player who replaced the injury replacement player, Charlotte didn’t get a game this year and was delisted. She’s since been recruited to Collingwood.

[4]   Tarni Brown
The former Collingwood F/D who was good when she came over to us. She has some ‘off-field issues’ which have led to her retirement.

[5]   Mia Austin
Even though she played her best season so far, Mia left to go to Melbourne for more opportunities.

[6]   Keeley Skepper
Keeley had a poor year by her standards. Considering that we swapped with West Coast for next to nothing, neither teams seems to think she has much of a future. A pity, as she was really good only a couple of seasons back.

[7]   Maddison Torpey
Maddy left seeking more opportunities at North. She felt that she was our #4 ruck now.
