VFL Rd 4 2026 Carlton vs Collingwood at Carlton.

Friday 17th April at Carlton, at 19:05.
This weekend is the State Game. :(
Impossible to develop any momentum with such a disjointed fixture.

We need to learn how to win in 11 days.

One thing we have in our favour this week is Lord and Hewett: that sort of mid power should improve our team's clearances.
Reidy and O'Keefe should improve our rucks.
Key forwards? Key defenders? Aye, there's the rub.

Will Phillips play for us again? Somehow, I doubt it. But he would be very useful.

OUT: N. Haynes (AFL), D. Hogg (injured), W. Cookson, T. Evans, L. Prout, J. Sammartino (omitted)

[1] With Lord named on the bench, I think he probably won't play. If he plays, it will be on managed minutes.
[2] I know I've been carping on about this, but we seriously lack key position players out there. Collingwood don't have that much, but they have more than we do.
[3] With the talent we supposedly have out there, we should not be losing. Not even thinking about it. We have 20 AFL listed players named! But, we haven't won a game yet.

Usually the AFL website has a live broadcast of VFL games. If you have the AFL app on devices, I'm pretty sure the same applies.

I think watching this will highlight one of our big problems, and that is we do not and never have taken VFL seriously, as such the development of our stocking fillers falls dramatically short.

When was the last time you can recall a Carlton player coming in cold from the VFL and doing a job, Cottrell maybe, but even he like Evans took games to settle?

We never get them cherry ripe, and even if they are showing form we tend to run it out of them and wait until they are on the slide before begrudgingly giving them a shot.

btw., This is not a coach or MC issue, because it's been happening for decades, through dozens of coaches and probably hundreds of MC.

Cottrell is the only AFL listed looking any good in terms of ball use, but he's not getting enough.

Ive just discovered why Flynn young isn't in the ones.  Its another athleticism issue.  Our players lack agility.

Too bad Collingwood are rubbish.  Acres and Wilson making a claim for first team football.
