I remember when we picked up their father there was a photo of him taking a huge speccy for Woodville West Torrens in the newspaper. Don't recall him taking any big marks in the AFL.
Indeed. The Old Man was solid, but unspectacular. Both the boys are better in the air. We just need to see more of it. Some of it is body strength, as they are often out-bodied at this point. Another few kg of muscle and I hope it will be different.

One thing we haven't seen much of so far from both Campos is their marking. Both of them can take some really strong marks. Luke can take a hanger. I don't think either of them has the confidence yet to show their skills in this area. They are trying to fill in roles and no taking risks.
When you are up against people you can comfortably run into the ground, it's much easier to take speccies, especially late in games, everyone around you is exhausted and you are still fresh as a daisy.

That just doesn't happen in AFL.

Are we talking about Scott Camporeale? If so, there was a patch when he played for us where he was a premier midfielder in the comp. His ability to receive, run carry, distribute or kick goals himself was elite. Broke my heart when he defected.
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time

Not so much these days, that's very true. Even the best aerialists tend to do it early in games these days, if they do it at all. Note Mitch McGovern. Similarly, there were a couple of big Geelong marks, in the first quarter. None afterwards.

H comes into his own sometimes later in games, even though he doesn't get far off the ground. At 200+ cm and with a huge wingspan, he plucks them late quite often, when his defenders can no longer jump to spoil. He has taken some match-winning grabs late in games over the journey.
As they say, a good big man doesn't get any smaller.

The guys who can pull out the big leap late include a number of younger, leaping rucks that are now proliferating. Tom de Koning, was something of a prototype, even if he isn't doing it much at the 'Aints. When we beat Richmond in Rd 1 a few years back, Pitto wore Nankervis down. In the last quarter, a tired Nankervis could do nothing as Tom jumped over him.
It was similar when we lost to Collingwood this year. A tired Pitto couldn't control Steene in the last quarter, and Collingwood got on top.

Being able to farm that sort of leaping is becoming important. because, as LP noted, tired players don't take many speckies.

Scott Camporeale was indeed one of the best mids, as he had the tank to run hard all day and enough pace to break the lines. Then, with his excellent kicking, he drove the ball a long way forward, often to advantage.
It was disappointing when neither of the twins seemed to have his huge tank or the potentiality of his kicking. Both of the boys can run well, but just don't have that extra pace, especially late in games.
However, I don't think they can't improve their pace, both of them.
Patrick Cripps, early in his career, did a lot of work with some running coaches to develop his running. He will never be quick, but he made the most of what he had. He worked on his explosiveness. I would like to see the twins take the same path, and develop that burst. It would do both of them the world of good and might even give them enough time to get their kicks right.

We need a young Scott in the side more than we do a young Ben or a young Lucas.

Cerra is the one.  Don't use his last two seasons as much, his hammys have caused him a lot of grief but in 2023 he was massive until he broke down.
