VFL 2026 Rd 15: Carlton vs Richmond at Carlton

This match is an away game for us, due to Richmond's 'upgrade' of Punt Rd. It starts at 12:05 on Saturday (4th July).
Richmond are 20th and were very poor against Collingwood. We are 14th and showed something against Werribee. But that does not guarantee that we win.

No idea who is going to play as yet. :( Probably won't know this time tomorrow.
Ben Camporeale will probably play.
One of our Emergencies probably won't.
Acres? He may be 'rested'. He has been good since his return.

Our line-up is available, for a change.

B:   41 Matt Duffy   33 Lewis Young   61 Dane Harvey
HB:   28 Harry Charleson   37 Jordan Boyd   42 Adam Saad
C:   21 Lucas Camporeale   13 Blake Acres   16 Ben Camporeale
HF:   8 Lachie Fogarty   50 Darcy Tucker   6 Zac Williams
F:   43 Ashton Moir   40 Hudson O'Keeffe   45 Flynn Young
R:   56 Flynn Riley   31 Campbell Chesser   36 Cooper Lord
Int:   66 Sam Paea   70 Darcy Hogg   74 Logan Prout   78 Tyson Gresham   75 Liam Farrar   53 Ollie Badr   77 Will Cookson   58 Jack Sammartino   57 Alwyn Davey   80 Thomas Howard   65 Jed Rule   72 Harrison Wilson
Em:   72 Charlie Cotter

[1] Lewis Young is already out, replacing Harry Dean. :( So there will be 15, not 16 listed Blues.
[2] Two new guys named, Howard and Wilson.
Thomas Howard: a midfielder who has played with North and Sydney.
Harrison Wilson: a 190 cm rebounding defender who played with the Bushrangers last year.

Same game style as the AFL team, but burning the footy is wasting opportunities just like the AFL team did for the first 1/2 of the season.

We should probably have been 4 or 5 goals up, but multiple times we kicked over the head of our teammate, and / or picked out an opposition defender standing alone 5m in the clear.

All over and the result was positive.

Carlton:  4 - 4 - 28   7 - 7 - 49   9 - 10 - 64  15 - 12 - 102
Richmond:  4 - 1 - 24  8 - 3 - 51  10 - 6 - 66  10 - 7 - 67

A 35 point win, as we kicked the last 7 goals.

Goals:
Liam Farrar  3.  Ashton Moir  2,  all the rest were singles.

Statistically:
Darcy Tucker:  28 possessions, 3 tackles, 4 clearances: we've missed him when he was injured. He was very good last week as well.
Lachie Fogarty:  27 possessions, 1 tackle, 7 clearances:  2nd strong game in a row, with a lot of ball. The ABC gave him BOG.
Cooper Lord:  26 possessions, 5 tackles, 6 clearances: getting back towards something closer to the form we want to see.
Ben Camporeale:  26 possessions, 5 tackles, 6 clearances:  his inside grunt has been missed in recent weeks.
Harry Charleson:  23 possessions, 2 tackles, 2 clearances: another strong effort in defence.
Jack Sammartino:  21 possessions: Jack's form has been down recently after a strong start. To have him come back to decent form is a big positive.
Darcy Hogg:  21 possessions, 3 tackles, 5 clearances: much improved over last week's disaster.
Campbell Chesser:  21 possessions, 2 tackles, 1 clearance. Not that bad, but not showing what we wanted to see.
Lucas Camporeale:  20 possessions, 2 tackles, 1 clearance: a second decent game after returning from injury.

Ashton Moir:  17 possessions, 1 tackle. 2 goals: more involved as a forward.

Flynn Riley:  16 possessions, 2 points, 43 taps, 5 clearances, 4 marks: definitely won the ruck duel.

Hudson O'Keefe: 7 possessions, 1 goal, 1 mark, 10 taps, 1 clearance: What can I say?

A good win in the end but we certainly made hard work of the first three quarters.

I thought that all of our AFL listed players did OK and particularly Fogarty, Lord, the Camporeales, Charleson, Chesser and Riley.

Moir certainly had a crack today and I liked Skull's physicality, although it didn't seem to earn him any favours from the umpires.

It was good to see Chesser getting a bit of the pill and using it well.

Boyd and Saad had solid games but I suspect that they'll both play out the season in the Magoos.  Williams seems to be not quite 100% but he did some nice work and his on field leadership was important.

Acres didn't play so perhaps he is being managed.

Probably being held over as the new Emergency, now that Young is in the team.

Considering that Zac had about a dozen possessions in the first half, he might also be on Emergency duty.

Zac spent a lot of time on the bench and the commentators and boundary rider said that he was carrying an injury.  If so, it didn't seem to worry him when he was in the play.
