Just start with the simple stuff, improve our kicking for goal and we’d probably have beaten them.
Plenty of other issues of course but getting the basics right would be a good start.
Reality always wins in the end.

We had to win 7 straight just to spend a week in the top 10. Inevitably a small slump hits as that is tough to sustain. We looked flat. 4 were solid wins against sides around us for the 10, especially Geelong, who were brilliant at the time, until we started their slump. A win against the GC puts things on track again, although might be a touch late now. Didn't help with our bench down hence our bookends out.

Harry has a minor meniscus tear and bone bruising,so he will be out. Cerra is ok.

You dont need me to tell you Cookie as you have watched plenty of football over the journey that unfortunately players who are poor to average field or goal kicks rarely improve and you have to usually go out and recruit better kicking players.
Stewart Lowe is about the only player I can remember who went from being a poor kick for goal to a very reliable kick later in his career. Earl Spalding perhaps is another who improved in our last premiership year....seems like a century ago🤔😉.

EB, when  I said improve I meant that if our current players can’t do that, then we have to replace them with players that have the skills we need. If we don’t improve to winner skill levels then we will struggle for wins for sure.
Reality always wins in the end.

Injuries are never an excuse — but they are a reason.

We were wasteful up forward and we gave up far too many easy goals. Membrey alone crumbed at least two.

Ainsworth had an uncharacteristically bad first quarter and made some awful errors. To his credit he worked into the game and finished strongly, but seven turnovers is rough.

Hayward was close to his worst game of the season and had basically no impact. Florent struggled as well, and we generated almost no drive off half‑back.

Acres was poor and showed why he was dropped earlier in the year. He lost his width, which let Crisp stroll inside 50 for an easy goal. He was up against it when thrown into the ruck. If Ollie isn’t the answer, I’d rather see a kid get wing minutes — Acres isn’t it.

The inexperienced backline battled hard but panicked and over‑handled the ball coming out of defence.

Kemp… he gets to the right spots, but when he lines up for a set shot from 40 out on a slight angle you just know he’s not kicking it — and might not even trouble the scorers. Eight marks is good, but his confidence looks shot. Levi actually improved his kicking at Carlton; Kemp looks like he’s going backwards.

Reidy — I haven’t seen anything yet that gives me much hope.

We always seem to find a way to lose to this mob. The only upside is the false hope their supporters will walk away with.

Pies would probably suggest with their two key defenders out in Moore and Howe they had the injury excuse too, you add perennial pest Elliott and the hardworking Schultz and I reckon it was even on the injury front.
I thought it was a poor quality game from both teams and showed why both are midpack combatants at best and the best players for both teams are the best players every week, every game because the drop away in impactful talent is so large...

Only difference we lost them during the game.

Just a bit of ruck trivia.

When we played Collingwood earlier in the year Pittonet and Cameron split the hitouts 20 a piece.
Hit outs to advantage were 5-2 in favour of Pittonet.

Oscar Steene (15- HTA 6 )and Lewis Young (7 -HTA 3) also did  bit of ruck work.
So all up it was Collingwood 35 -HTA 8 v Carlton 27-HTA 8

Last night they were 39-18 in Cameron's favour but Reidy won the HTA 8 to 5
Mc Stay also had 10-HTA 1 but no other Carlton player registered  a hit out
So 49-18 in terms of first hands but 8-6 our way in terms of HTAs

But in terms of
Clearances...41-39 our way
Centre Clearances...16-11 our way
Stoppage Clearances 28-25 their way.

All pretty even.

Cameron had 18 disposals to Reidy's 16
Cameron took 3 marks Reidy 0
Cameron made 2 tackles Reidy 6
Cameron had 8 clearances to Reidy's 6
Both had 4 inside 50s
Reidy had 4 centre clearances to Cameron's 2
Cameron had 18 contested possessions to Reidy's 12
...so a bit for each of them in  those stats...

The question from all that is.... was Reidy all that bad or have we concentrated too much on 'first hands' on the ball.

Far too much emphasis is placed on hitouts without considering who wins the clearances.  Reidy crashing into Cameron at a centre ball up so that his hitout is misdirected and sharked is more of a win than a Reidy hitout that doesn't find its target.

Cameron was better on the night, but not by much.  Reidy's performance was more admirable considering that he was virtually a lone hand.  His physicality was excellent and some of his tackles were as bone-jarring as Byrner's  :)  His shot for goal was disappointing, but he wasn't Robinson Crusoe, and I'd like to see him take some marks.  At this stage, he offers more than Skull and Riley, and probably just shades Pitto.

Ditto. Don't get the savage criticism of Reidy. All things considered -- 1 game in the Magoos since returning from injury, huge occasion, no 2nd ruck/backup & still an infant in rucks years -- he battled hard.

Season over as regards finals!
Wins are no longer important!     Will Carlton now play more youth?
Expose  Ben & Lucas Camporeale,  Harry Charleson to AFL football.
More games also to Flynn Young  and Harry Boyd (still okay in my mind).
Then of course one or more of rucks Flynn Riley  and HOK need to play.

I wouldn't raise the white flag just yet, AB.
Agree that Charleson, Flynn Y and Boyd should get a gig before the year is out.

Yeah I was thinking more the in-game injuries of McKay and Cerra.   Down two rotations.    McKay hurt our structure.

Agree it did very much look like 9th vs 12th

Cripps choosing a left foot snap was worse than any  Kemp miskick.

I posted this back in May …

I’ll reserve judgement on Fraser, for now.
But if Crippa EVER again attempts to kick around the corner on his left from a set shot then we’ll know Josh is simply not up to it.
