I think a lot of people are answering your question with a...

"Yes, it was well worth it." ;)

Sorta.
Its a Yes, because he is 'not bad and has positive traits'.
I never said he wasn't, and acknowledge that.

Let me pose this question to you.

Was it good for Melbourne to recruit Grundy?
Grundy is good, perhaps the 2nd best ruck in the game.
Did it improve Melbourne though?
Could they have used his $'s better elsewhere??
12 months later, the question was answered for all of us.
Not a knock on Grundy in all of that. Just not the best fit at the time....and Dees didn't benefit from it.

Same same, but different.

You asked your question, you got answers you dont like, and accepting that people dont share your opinion is the next logical step.

Doubling down to try and convince people because they havent considered your point of view is not the appropriate response, its an agreement to disagree.

Grundy at Melbourne is the worst example you could have thought of.  Here's one, does jack martin give geelong anything mannagh doesnt?

As i said above, its not about me liking it or not, its about how people are justifying it, its shows a misunderstanding of the question, or its intent.

People think i'm attacking Florent and they are defending him. You don't need to defend him, he's not under attack.

actually, no, i think you think we could have recruited someone more useful, but personally i think youre pigeon holing florent as he can play many roles.

His experience, leadership, ans team first ethos, and cultural impact shouldn't be underestimated.

Just on Florent. Quote below from Billy Wilson after he signed recent contract extension.

"There’s a lot to get better at, and a lot of teammates that have helped. Guys like Ollie Florent - playing alongside him in a similar role, he’s been massive during my time in the team. He’s my locker buddy as well and he’s been great for me on game day, with things like positioning and reviewing our games."

This is the type of leadership fans don't get to see

That kind of backs up the thing I was saying about Florent and Wilson pre-season. They obviously formed a bond quickly.
I'd guess Wilson isn't the ony player benefitting from the experience of Hayward, Florent and Ainsworth.
It's the type of thing we're not always privy to, but like the 1% plays and pressure acts it gets noticed internally.
I'd suspect the club are more than happy with the decision to bring Florent into the fold.
He makes us better as a team.

I worry about the comprehension of some people. I really do.

I'm not shooting bambi.

I'm asking a question.

I'm not saying Florent hasn't done everything we've asked of him.
I'm not saying Florent doesn't deserve a spot in our side.

I've had Florent in my best 23 since before the season started.

What i am asking is.....given the position he is playing, and given the other players playing a similar position in the 2's...and given how little cover we have in other areas.....could his list spot (and contract $'s) be better spent elsewhere?

Its the same logic i had when we recruited Fantasia. I understood why we got him, the experience, the energy levels etc....but at the end of the day, did our overall list structure suffer as a result?

You've gotta sacrifice something to get something. People around here don't want to sacrifice anything, but still want everything.

Well, they’re open-ended questions; theoretically there’s always someone better and there’s always a way to improve a list structure.

However, in the real world the answer is categorically no, his list spot and contact $$ couldn’t be better spent elsewhere, and no, our overall list structure didn’t suffer as a result of bringing Florent on board.

To complete the answer to your questions, I’ll ask why wouldn’t you sacrifice a future third rounder for the opportunity to bring on board a very good player whose impact goes way beyond on field ability?

The thing is that people round here see the impact that players like Florent, Hayward and Ainsworth have had and can’t really understand why anyone would be trying to second guess very good list management decisions.

I have a sneaking suspicion that a fair bit of the 'Bloods Culture' that has taken such a hit this week walked out the door when Florent and Hayward left the building.

I for one am happy if it has started to turn into Blue Blood.  The playing group certainly seem to be in a very good place atm, and you can never underestimate the effect that solid citizens bring to a footy club.

After all the dummy-spitting and disunity that seemed to plague CFC last year, the turnaround in this facet of the club has been amazing.  One can make a fair assumption that it is these new senior players (together with the talented kids who are now getting a crack) who are largely responsible for this.  Of course, a certain Mr Fraser is probably at the core of it, given his passion for connectedness.

The on-field results are very much a by-product of a connected and unified playing group.
This is now the longest premiership drought in the history of the Carlton Football Club - more evidence of climate change?

Somewhat off topic, but Josh Francou is of the opinion that if John Longmire was still in charge, this would not have happened.

We have done very well recruiting players Sydney didn't want and turning them into top players.
Nic Newman was a great pickup. George Hewett has shown Sydney he can play. Florent has been excellent, as has Hayward. Please, Sydney, if you have more talented players you would like to send in our direction, we will provide a happy home for them.

Were you at the game?

I thought it was a tough, high pressure game unlike our win over the Lions.
I agree, being at the game fairly close to the action, you could here the collisions and both teams were going at at 100% (even though I reckon Freo dont really like the tough stuff). Not sure what game pew2 watched. We all see things differently I guess.
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership
2026-Slow start, we can kick after all, why not?

Talk about verbal diarrhoea.

Do you ever worry about your comprehension or only those who disagree with you which on this topic clearly the majority do.

Nah they can have him.

He kicke lots of goals in the H&A season but its hard to have a unpredictable forward line when he is there as players are drawn to him and makes us easier to plan against.

Put it this way in finals i much prefer the balance and spread we have now.
