AFLW Rd 5 2026 Carlton vs North Melbourne @ North

Huge game this weekend.
2 undefeated teams.
1 undefeated for 2.5 years now!

Unfortunately we won't be getting back either our x-factor players in Sophie and Darcy, both out with calf/ankle respectively for another 1-2 weeks.

Will be a good test for us.

The girls are hanging tough against formidable opposition. We even hit the lead for a brief period in the 2nd, but this will be an uphill battle IMO.

We had one real shot there. Girl took a mark 30m out right in front with 3 min to go and for some idiotic reason played on and got caught holding the ball. Could've put us within 4 pts with 3 min left.

It was a mistake made out of trying to be aggressive and positive and trying to win the game.  I think Carlton can get better while I think North are at their peak, but it is a high peak. They set the standard. Once we got over our nerves in the first quarter I thought we more than match them. The umpiring was interesting at times and North always looked like they had another gear. But well done Carlton.
Jess Good was great.

While a loss is always unacceptable, the positive out of that game is that we were always in with a chance, unlike our recent losses to North.

I think that we can improve with Darcy and Sophie back in the team ... and the umpiring has to be better next time.

It was the scrappiest game i've seen us play in years. Not accurate on how we've played.

Nobody has beatedn the kangas in years, so thats as good as you could hope for from our girls. Especially since we were without 2 of our biggest offensive weapons/play makers in Vescio and Sophie.

No time to rest though, got another big test next week against the only other undefeated team next week in Melbourne.

The girls had their opportunities but I must say the umpiring for the first 3/4’s was annoying - letting the scraps roll on and on and no reward for tackling and they were holding us before we even got the ball!

Then yes technically the HTB against us was there in the last when 20 went to play on rather than take the set shot but the umpires had let so
Many other infringements go thru time and again , but not that one.  It was irritating but her doing that and the umpire calling it.

I think the umpires are doing a disservice to the game by letting play roll on so much. Not a great spectacle.

I thought we were a real shot against North and i think having Sophie who is the firecracker in the forward line, and Darcy, who is the calm experienced head, wouldve had us win that one. Next time

Yep, umpiring was poor.

There'd be at least a dozen free kicks for holding the ball if the umpires were consistent week to week.

Given how poor the AFL umpires are, i cut the AFLW umpires some slack.....but agree its annoying.

Absolutely and I understand they are giving everyone more leeway to keep the game moving but not multiple times constantly… at one stage both teams’ Players stopped and looked at the umpire waiting for a whistle. It was way too long and ugly to watch tbh.
