Captain 2027

Cripps mentioned the succession in an interview last week.
We have a lot of new faces across the board in a number of positions.
Is it time?
Who should be captain in 2027?

Brisbane had 3 co captains in 2026. With Fagan on board I wonder if he will influence the thought process in this space.

It's interesting.

There are a couple of pieces of merchandise or promotions around at present, including this one.

As concerned fans, we should file a missing person’s report. Hmmm……..

Cripps is a free agent next year.
He may want to be a one-club player.
He may even see the chance of a flag in the next year or two.
We really don't know his mind or his personal situation.
So it's all just a guess.

But it wouldn't surprise, and I doubt many would begrudge him, if for family reasons he chose to go back to WA for the last few years of his playing career.
It may co-incide with his daughter starting school...continuity in education for their children is often a consideration for older players.
As a first step handing over the captaincy for a year or two, but still being there in strong support, may be a good move.

Cripps isnt leaving Carlton.  If he was going to go he would have gone already.

I also dont think him relinquishing the captaincy is a decision hes concerned about.

Hes the greatest blue thats ever played the game from start to finish of his career.  Just needs a flag to go with it.

The reality is we don't know his mind.
We don't know the family dynamics that are taking place.

The'romantic view' of any decision is... we'd love to see him a one club player with a flag to go with it.
But...
He is a free agent at the end of next year.
He's still a valuable player, and offers will come his way.
If he is to stay, then any new contract should get done early.

I suspect he is likely to stay.
But if you'd told me this time last year that Scott Pendlebury would be playing at Gold Coast in 2027 I'd have been a little sceptical.

Crippa made it pretty clear in his interview that he expects to sign a contract extension in the not too distant future.

Apart from that, the key points I took away from the interview were:
- he doesn’t have to be the captain.
- you can be a leader without having a formal role.
- he would enjoy mentoring someone else as captain.
- he enjoys being captain.

What we don’t know is how Weiters or Worpa would feel about taking the captaincy.

I think that Crippa will retain the captaincy but this may be his last season in the role.  Whatever happens will have the full agreement of Crippa, Weiters and Worpa.

A very minor point, but at this writing, Cripps has 8 votes and Walsh 5, yet the Total Members Voted says 12.

As William Hale Thompson is reported to have said, "Vote early ... and vote often!"  :)

If it aint broke, dont  fix it.
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time
2025-Carlton can win the 2025 AFL Premiership
2026-Slow start, we can kick after all, why not?

Not sure why that's occurred.
It may be as the thread starter, my vote doesn't get counted in the total.
Seems strange, but probably doesn't skew the vote to a great extent.
