Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2014 - Strugglers
Special K and Jamo appear the two key injury prone types.....

Judd, to a lesser extent.

Seems like the pre season has been remarkably uneventful (touch wood).

Thomas remains doubtful surely to some degree, until he produces ...?

Well he'd bloody well better for that sort of money per year. Otherwise why don't we all throw our membership dollars down the friggin sh1tter.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2014 - Strugglers
Good thread, LP.

Just on Kreuzer - I was there the night he did his knee against Freo back in 2010. Even in the paralytic state I was in at the time, it didn't take a genius to work out the long-term implications that such an injury could have for such a big man, especially a big man with great expectations. Seems to have had nothing but trouble with injury since, which is why I think that if he struggles this year, then we will never see the player we had hoped he would be when he walked through the doors at Princes Park as a shy, pimple-faced beanpole.

Sometimes in footy and in sport overall, it only takes a bit of rotten luck and she could be all over. The moon-boot and lack of training is of huge concern.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Best 22 for 2014
I've been told I could be an AA individual, but its all up to me. In the case of Murphy, it is up to him if he wants to go to the next level.

The Sports Desk / Re: Soccer fans' behaviour
AFAIC "football" is a generic term which needs qualification to describe each of its forms, so IMO no particular code exclusively owns that term. Any code that tries to claim that it is the one and only true "football" is delusional.

"Soccer" is in fact a shortened version of "Association Football" which is what it was called 30 - 40 years or more ago. It's a good name and they should stick to it.  ;)

Nup. Australian Rules IS football. No other code in the world worthy of having the name.

Felt sorry for Rafa having to play through that pain, but at the same time I was glad we didn't have to put up with the prick smiling like a f-wit and biting the trophy like he usually does.

STAN THE MAN.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Legends Football League
Went and checked out a live game of this a few weeks back with some mates...we were bored pretty quickly. Spent the arvo drinking at the pub before heading over to AAMI Park, we'd had enough by half time so we went back to the pub.

It's novel for about 5 minutes. Made for TV, that's for sure.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Derryn Hinch going in prison
I have no problem with people standing up for what they believe in, as long as they are prepared to pay the price for their actions.
However Hinch needs to find some other way of making his point rather than jeopardising the trial and or sentencing of someone before the courts. What will Hinch say when someone he names escapes penalty due to the actions of Hinch prejudicing the hearing? Or when the victims of one of these crimes loses their right to anonymity due to his actions?
We have these laws for a reason.

Exactly!

Hinch is a grub with an ego and he's more concerned about his own reputation than any sense of justice.  I'd love to see the prick rot in gaol.

There are so, so many more people in society I'd like to see locked away for life than Derryn Hinch. No doubt you'd agree with me.

Not worth a response that tripe PaulP.

Anyway, Stan taking it to Rafa (thus far).....

But you just responded.  :))

Stan playing exceptionally well. Hope he wins.

Just a passing thought and not necessarily my thoughts - does anyone here think Federer has been complacent over the years because there hasn't been another stand-out swiss player to create a bit of a national (healthy and friendly) rivalry? This is the first time in 13 years that he isn't the number one swiss player. Thoughts?

The worst part about having Rafa win this slam will be having to put up with that stupid grin.

Also what pisses me off about tennis is how easily amused the crowds are...players could probably say they're declaring nuclear war on our country and the crowd would still end up in hysterics.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Where Will The Goals Come From in 2014 ??
It has been an overused line amongst our camp in recent seasons about how footy has moved away from the necessity of having a good tall forward and a CHF. I've always called bullcrap on that and it has exposed us a few too many times.

It had put a huge weight on our small forwards that they couldn't (naturally) always live up to. Ideally your smalls crumb and rove the packs inside forward 50 for opportunistic goals. Not at Carlton. I've felt sick that many times that I'd seen Eddie playing lead up forward.

When our smalls have what is considered a 'quiet' game based on the expectations put on them through a lack of a genuine forward, you'll probably find that a 'quiet' game may be the standard for most smalls around the league with sufficient tall support...because that's what a small forward is supposed to be, a crumbing support act to the tall timber.
