Hollands kick to Doc was almost perfect, Doc's positioning was good and his kick to the top of the square was as good as you get, Weiters taking on the kick to Hollands was even better.
They had no time to go slow, go any slower and the defenders flood back.
Fans seem to be oblivious to the fact that alongside Acres in the square was McGovern and Kemp, that's about as big of a roll of the dice as you will get!
Yeap, and McGovern did a nice job of pretending to go for the mark without interfering with the Melbourne player.
Hollands was as expected when he came on. Consistent.
But...don't give him too much credit. That last kick to Docherty was poor. Doch had space, Hollands kicked it behind him. Docherty's bravery and the dees players stupidity made it all work out in the end. But that kick was poor.
A poor kick was the one that Owies kicked to a Dees player who was not even in the passage of play and did not expect to mark the ball, when Owies had, I think Curnow leading towards him from about 20 meters.
So I call this one even it was a good mark by Doc and a good/poor kick by Holland.
I think last night showed, for the sake of our structures, that we need Harry in the side, especially for Charlie's sake. Splits the defence. He gets involved in scores and is a terrific "get out"" coming out of defence.
I'm well aware that Vossy won't be having any of that.
My changes would be..... In: Martin, Silvagni (or Harry as Vossy would do) Out: Hollands, Marchbank, Kennedy to be demoted to sub
Jack is not match fit as Voss said last week. As much as I want to see him play and he bleeds blue blood, I think he may not play again this year bar an injury to MP or TD. The only way I see him playing is as the sub.
Also, I remember his dad SOS missing out on the finals in 94 and playing a pivotal role in 95. So maybe history repeating itself??
I reckon Harry must play as he will be the link up the ground and will not get any shorter as the game wears on. Plus he could turn it on and kick a bag which will give Brisbane heart ache, and they will still have to cover Charlie.
Charlie and Harry have not yet both fired together so there is always this week.
I reckon Cunners or Owies will be one of the outs with Hollands as the sub. He virtually won us the game on Friday in the last, and that maybe enough to get him over the line.
Agree on the 23 blokes all needing to contribute, Kennedy will probably make way for Harry but its a tough choice on who to drop for Martin who will also come straight in. Cuningham, Fogarty have been lucky charms since returning and Motlop hasnt done anything wrong either plus does Hollands stay as sub ahead of any of the other candidates to be dropped? Im presuming Docherty plays....
Maybe Owies? Love the boy but made 3 or 4 really bad errors which may cost him.
If you were not at the game and just watching on TV, the highlights just do not do that moment justice. x100 times and your getting close
From where i was sitting, Q24, Doc's mark looked way more difficult than it was as the Melbourne player looked to be in front of him, and I thought oh no Melbourne was going to mark it or it would be a spoil and possibly a ball up. It was such a superbly jugged mark.
But oh boy was it all worth it. Just to see the excitement in all the fans faces and the sear joy was worth the money I paid for the seat and more. Something I will not forget for a long long time.
Come on Blues and bring on Brisbane. There is always a first time to loose at your home ground.
Un-friggin-believable. You really can't explain the emotion and exhilaration you go through when you're standing in the trenches with the other tragic's and something like what happened last night occurs. Grown men, and women, complete strangers just jumping and hugging and screaming and crying and laughing and singing together. Just brilliant. 96,412 biggest crowd for the year I believe. We are on some sort of run.
x100. gave a few people hugs, high fives and sang the song until my voice could not make any more sound. Almost shed a tear so emotional. Never heard a crowd that loud, I cannot even remember anything like that even during or after the 99 prelim and any GF.
I got my ticket today as a guest pass and I'm a full AFL Gold member for the last 28 years. I got on at 12:20 and no seats in the AFL members stand. i was lucky to get that seat as it was. tried every level and none found. I was livid cost me $83 instead of $22.
I shudder to think what might happen if we make the GF.
I don't share your optimism that Harry would be better next week if he were able to play.
Leaving aside that in the Swan's match he was once again a motivation killer, the fact is that since his return to the side we have gone back to the same old predictable approach of entry into the forward line, namely, coming around the flanks and kicking long to the forward line.
During the time he was out injured our plan of attack was quite different - bringing the ball through the centre corridor as quickly as possible, denying the opposition backmen the chance to settle, and allowing our small forwards freedom of movement.
If he is not available for selection against Melbourne, I hope we return to the plan which has brought us success.
Hmm i get where your coming from and yes Charlie has excelled when Harry is not there, however even though he has been in horrible form this year, he did win a Coleman medal two years ago and had a reasonable year last year. If he kicks 2 goals and is not concussed then he plays next week.
Tall players don't get any shorter as the game goes on, and he is still someone that the opposition has to put one one of their best defenders on to ensure he is kept in check.
