Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 11 2024 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Gold Coast
From the SEN Website re Friday's game.
Nothing new here....
What they got wrong
Carlton’s midfield is too slow
Sydney isn’t the first team to exploit Carlton when they play all of Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett, but it was particularly evident on Friday night.
The Swans did as they pleased at centre bounces and when the ball went their way, they were off to the races.
Carlton clearly noticed the issue, trying Corey Durdin on-ball at stages, but that’s not the answer either.
The Blues need more dynamic players in the middle and Elijah Hollands is surely the one to receive a few opportunities in Adam Cerra’s absence.
Too many forwards don’t touch the footy
Corey Durdin and Orazio Fantasia both played full games of footy on Thursday night for a combined 10 disposals, four tackles and 0.1.
Tom De Koning also spent 80 per cent of the game forward as Marc Pittonet assumes full control of the ruck – De Koning had six disposals, one mark and didn’t hit the scoreboard.
Carlton needs to revamp their forward mix and needs desperately to hope Lachie Fogarty and Jesse Motlop are available to return this weekend.
The Blues also should go back to one ruckman and try to get their forward-half pressure game back, given it has dropped away significantly.

Fortunately (as it turned out) missed the game last night. Agree with PaulP, need to just wipe this game and move on.
The next 3 weeks against GC, Port and the Don's suddenly season defining.
The group especially the leaders need to take stock, reset and come out with purpose next week. What happens above the shoulders will be the key. A bit of luck with injuries will help also!

Doesnt help when some of your blokes cant get the ball, wont lay a tackle and bail out of contests either.....those are non negotiables. Can accept losing on lack of talent caused by injuries but losing by lack of effort isnt on.

We appear to play in bursts in games. In many respects we are not an honest team because the effort turns off and on.
Top teams don't play like that and as EB says, you don't need talent to lay tackles, harass  chase etc.

I love your enthusiasm, but if Fantasia comes in and has another 25pt rating game it's over for him the moment other players get fit.

If we are going to carry a player getting single digit disposals and having little game influence, it may as well be a longer term project. That's just how I see it.

Generally, you have some senior types around the club on the fringes, it is so they can come in and do a job having an immediate impact without the need to learn the ropes. As horrible as this sounds, we got more out of Tutt, Lang, Smedts maybe even Clem Smith than we have out of Fantasia for a similar number of games.

Agree LP. Better to play a young developing player than Fantasia. He has had enough chances and shown zip.

Yep. The one potent thing we're confronted with against the Fluffy Ducks is that they maintain pressure for four qtrs. We tend to have a lapse in just about every game, and that's all they will need to open up a lead... and keep it.
Spot on Baggers. If we bring 4 qtr effort we can win. We have had in game lapses in every game this year. Swans don't. The hard 4-5 week block we've had makes it harder but they are still beatable. Mids set up and kick most of their goals. Need to get it in quick to our forward line. Swans slice defences by clean ball movement so 4 qtr pressure non negotiable for us to win.
