Blah-Blah Bar / NRL FS vs AFL FS
The NRL world is generally seen as sexist, blokey and a boy's club, yet the NRL Footy Show is able to include a 'football intelligent' attractive female in Erin Molan who is shown a high degree of respect by both the panel and audience and not treated as a token female.

With the recent accusations leveled at Newman and Brownless and the deplorable history that the show has in dealing with women ( Newman's comments to those female footballers a few weeks ago was a disgrace) and the fact that the AFL footy show needs a revamp (desperately), are there any suggestions as to any females who might be able take their place legitimately as a panel member, to give the show some form of credibility??

My suggestion: Rebecca Maddern (ch 7) Heard her on SEN  recently and was amazed at her football knowledge. I think she's the No 1 ticket holder at Geelong.

We can justifiably criticize the NRL on some issues but when comparing the two shows, the NRL are a mile ahead.

The Sports Desk / The G turns 162! Do you remember?
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/happy-birthday-mcg-we-look-back-at-the-25-most-memorable-moments-in-the-grounds-history/story-fnig4uyx-1227540257095

This article appeared in the HS looking back over those special moments at the G.  I know that there are many 'G lovers', like myself on the site.  How many of the 25 did you witness?

I can count 10. Most memorable... Kerryn McCann's finish of the Comm Games marathon, full house going nuts that got her across the line.  (I wasn't there for EJ unfortunately)

"The lead changed six times in the final 2km as McCann battled Kenyan Hellen Koskei in a sprint for the finish. After the runners entered the MCG, McCann took the lead in the last 200m and the stadium erupted in delight as she won by the small margin of just two seconds.

Sadly, the mother of two, who had defended her title from Manchester in 2002, faced a much tougher challenge a year later.

After giving birth to another child, she lost her fight against cancer and died in 2008 aged 41."

Even without the sad post script, it was a magic moment!!

Blah-Blah Bar / Are we officially over Wayne Carey??
Isn't this all ancient history now.  Like any such situation, it will always be conflicting versions of 'he said / she said'  Just waiting for Carey's ex Sally, to give her side of the story and we're about done!!

Apparently we forgive and forget our high profile sporting personalities very quickly. Carey has never been so media busy!

Robert Heatley Stand / Why So Different??
One aspect of our game that we used to lament was our accuracy in front of goal, missing key shots at critical times.

Across the season, we have kicked
11.12
9.8
11.18
18.13
6.9
11.9
9.3  (GWS smashed us)
9.9
9.8

Yet the last 2 weeks, when we have played aggressive, creative, entertaining football, we have kicked
14.6 and 17.8

Can a change in gameplan make us more accurate??

Murphy's goal in the 3rd quarter probably would have been a miss 6 weeks ago, but yesterday it was a captain's goal at a critical time!

The Sports Desk / I Just Don't Get NRL
Billy Slater is possibly one knock on his shoulder away from being out for the rest of the year but chooses to play in a match that, in terms of his club season, means nothing.

Who doesn't get it, us or them???

Blah-Blah Bar / At last, something to look forward to in 2015!
"ROCKERS AC/DC won’t be sending their fans on a highway to credit card hell when they bring their Rock Or Bust world tour back home to stadiums in November.

The band who formed in Sydney’s western suburbs four decades ago have insisted tickets be restricted to the affordable $99 and $159.

Promoter Garry Van Egmond, who has worked with AC/DC on seven tours over 30 years, said the egalitarian band also bans pre-sales or the expensive meet-and-greet packages which other acts leverage for thousands of dollars."

A bucket list special at $159! Saw them at Etihad on the Black Ice Tour. As Molly would say, ' Do yourself a favour!!'

Blah-Blah Bar / Radio Memories
For those in a ' certain demographic' (and based on comments over the years, there are a few!) who originally came from Melbourne, you might remember the days when 'The Greater 3UZ' ruled the airwaves.  Like so many other iconic stations around the country that we all grew up with, it has long gone with a totally different identity.

Tomorrow (Sunday) it is 90 years since 3UZ first went to air and in celebration, the 927 frequency will feature some of the best of 3UZ!  For those who remember Stan Rofe, Sam Anglesea, Don
Lunn etc, etc, etc , it might be worth having on in the background!!

Robert Heatley Stand / New numbers released
Former Bulldog Liam Jones will wear No.14 at Carlton worn last year by Brock McLean. Former Swan Matthew Dick takes 31 and ex-Giants Kristian Jaksch and Mark Whiley have 18 and 24 respectively. Young midfielder Patrick Cripps has swapped the No.16 he wore in 2014 for No.9. The Blues are yet to allocate jumper numbers for all their new draftees.

Robert Heatley Stand / Covering Our Forwards
As an opposition coach, in what order would you cover our forwards with your defenders? ie who would get no1 defender? No 2 etc.

Assume our forwards are:
Henderson
Jones
Casboult
Menzel

Blah-Blah Bar / The Chosen Few
Just seen the trailer for 'The Chosen Few', all about coaches and coaching.  Another Dickson production.  It looks like 'must watch TV' next Friday on 7.

Robert Heatley Stand / Carlton B & F
I find club best and fairest voting fascinating as at times it will differ (sometimes dramatically) from public and media perception.

What it does indicate is how well certain players have 'done their specific job' on the day.

With this in mind, I think  that Everett will pick up votes, as will White and Curnow.   Not always high possession winner, but if given a task and are successful, it is generally acknowledged in game voting at a club level.

We can speculate club and team expectations of players on any given day, but we don't really know!  The B&F will reveal a lot....IMO

The Sports Desk / U S Tennis Open
The future of Australian tennis is about to take Arthur Ashe Stadium against Tommy Robredo. Kyrgios is the real deal, but like some of our young boys, still hasn't got the stamina to last the two weeks of Slam.

Should be able to push Robredo, especially if it comes down to a tie breaker. Kyrgios' record at 6/6 is quite staggering.
