Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 22 : Blues Choke Against Injectors (Anti-Losing Rage)

Gibba never had Goddard, he played his usual run with role on Jobe. Duigan had Goddard for the entire game, even followed him to the bench.

Gibbs played on Goddard for some time.

To be honest, I'm getting sick of our no.1 pick  having to play "run with" roles. What about the part where others do "run with" roles on our no.1 pick. We might get better footy out of him then .

Fair enough Big Jack.

Then I ask the Question again. Why pay out Ratts at $900k or whatever and bring in mick for $3 mill if we fundamentally can't improve the players we have. Seems like a waste of money... no?

Because Mick knows how to build a list and run a club.

And where are we at 12 months in?

The underlying problems at Carlton run alot deeper than 12 months. Think MM worked out now what he has walked into. Years of  underlying problems relating to work ethics, attitude and culture going back 12 years won't get fixed in a year. Years of not trying back and giving up easily in mid 2000's, tanking, etc.. means the white flag is easy to raise if it gets too hard. similar situation like for Parko in his first year back in 1991, after we lost our last 8, he cleaned the list out with blokes that wouldn't work, as well as  those not up to it, got in bloke that would, built the list that way and won a flag 4 years later.

Key is to get the pride back into the place otherwise it'll all be like shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic. You're nothing without the "want" and pride.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Can we refuse a finals spot?
We'll win next week because we would've been embarrassed into it. Prefer we win because we consistently work hard rather than be embarrassed into it. We'd possible end up with a nervous Richmond first week, beat them them  embarrass ourselves no end the week after with another gutless performance just as we built a little false hope. Sounds a familiar story.

Wallpaper over the cracks just nicely unfortunately.

Look at our past month: out-of-our depth loss to Freo, meek capitulation & outplayed by the Bulldogs, faith-restoring win over a lazy Richmond, weak-minded & skill-less loss to a terrible Essendon team......classic wallpaper-over-the-cracks win last week in every respect. There's one giant common denominator over-riding last week's win.

We are highly consistent at being inconsistent in our workrate and performance. I learn that anything can happen, which, essentially, isn't good enough. I want that week in/week out. Richmond game only demonstrated to us that we CAN play, so really, that just makes it worse.

Other than giving our young blokes valuable finals experience the only other reason I'd want it is it's Essendon spot we're  taking.

Only reason i'd  take finals is you can't buy that experience for players like Graham, Menzel, Casboult or any other young bloke we decide to pick.

The only way I can accept this is if this becomes "watershed" day and vowing this type of sh1t will never happen again. Much like Geelong in 2007 after round 5 in where they sat 2-3 after another p1ss poor loss.

Other than that I want a complete review club and changes made because this simply isn't good enough. Work ethic, attitude, culture that IS the problem in our club. We can play alright but simply don't want it badly enough and not willing to work for it.

Not sure that going over to my S,C&B list will change anything but I am going to look at it again.

It changes nothing unless you get work ethics, attitude and character into the side. Otherwise it's like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. That's where it has to start even if we're down on class in the short term. Your result will be better.

Had a chance to sow up 9th and play for 8th next week but no, these useless pr1cks had to kick 9.22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IDIOTS!!!!

If I had my way I'd switched the lights on at Visy Park and make the useless prIcks practice goakicking until dawn.

Don't often get that p1ssed about footy but I am indescribably p1ssed off like you wouldn't believe. Just sick of bad kicking and now it's cost us a season.

waite and Henderson in the forward line - The backline needs to be shored up, a decision needs to be made. Mick chooses waite. Its clear MM sees hendo as a forward here on in

Waite cannot play in the forward line, he has to be either on a wing as a running linkman or in defence where he is made accountable for an opposition player.

I can but more as a 3rd running tall adding to what we have there already. Can  see him on  the wing, ala Richo at the end of his career, where he would  be very damaging, or in defence too. With Watson out he'll probably be in defence for the rest of the year. Actually miss Watson. He's turned into a handy player in the seniors. Struggled to play many good games in the VFL, hardly played a bad one in the AFL. Dunno how that works but with him being in the side it gives us more flexibility with the likes of Waite.

@PI2C
Yes a few of us now have said Boots needs to spend a bit more time on the weights!

Problem being cookie he's an ectomorph and ectomorphs find it very hard to put on weight. I think he'll always be quite skinny, especially when you consider how much running these blokes do. It will be nearly impossible for him to put on decent size. Some ectomorphs (Zac Dawson) have great inner strength. Boots doesn't seem to have it.

I was a  real ectomorph until my middle age, then I un-ectmorphed every quickly putting on 25kg in about 5 years. That's alot of muscle!!!! lol.

I like how much strength Menzel has through his hips. Usually a very good sign for a footballer.

Another good sign... he kicks goals!

How's his possession per goal ratio going so far?

I like Lars..lol.

Gary Lyon was talking him up pregame saying without the lars and his brother's history he could have gone at pick #2.

Bell was doing a fair bit of grunt work in terms of  spoiling and ball winning in the clinches, which I think we benefited from. He just needs to improve his disposal which lets him down atm. I'm confident that will get some focus as he's very useful to have around the clearances and contested ball situations.

Also let's the opposition know he's there - ask Cotchin.

Cookie...Glad to see you could see what I saw with Tom Bell....his big body is a must for the senior team.

I was otherwise predisposed so I saw nothing. Guy on the train on the way home, who went to the game, said it was about time Bell was playing again as he did quite a bit today and offers us alot of the grunt we have  been  missing.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 21: Richmond v Carlton (Pre-game Prayers)
Nothing surer than a win this week.  They got their bogey win against us they have made finals and dont need the win.  We now have nothing to play for on saturday, and the tigers are going to crow early about their finals fortunes.  It all adds up to us winning this week.  No Chris Judd.  I can see the Tiggies getting ahead of themselves, and failing to rise to the occasion.  They are a bit mind stuffed when they face us, and if we get the jump on them early will go into their shells and fail to respond.
Thry me old mate, you are unfortunately describing what Carlton would do (ie steal defeat from the jaws of victory). Richmond will put us to the sword and will well.

Yep.  Looking squarely at us, and us alone we will win this game.  We are so predictable in when we pick and choose which games we rock up to play its not funny.  We still have the wood on these guys.  One coughing and spluttering almost win is not the panacea to a decade of dishing out losses to these bozos.

Yes we are predictable and we can't beat sides above us at all and lets face it Richmond are THAT MUCH better than us and have been building for quite some time. We can't even beat the Bulldogs when we have plenty to play for and they have nothing at all to play for. We USED to have it over them, when we were a well coached outfit. We have zero chance this weekend, I'm predicting a 10 goal plus hiding.

We have beaten one side above us even if it was Port.

I'm thinking the players would've got a reaming and will lift this week and next.............and then probably  bomb the last week when we need it most as Carlton does when they get us a touch excited.
