Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL 2024 Elimination Final 1 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Brisbane
Playing Binns, Lord, Moir and Cincotta would have made us more competitive. Blokes fit enough to actually get to contests. Not thinking we were winning at all but would have been more competitive. Might have been 30-0 instead of 60 with a few bloke's actually switched on. At least you'd feel some chance from there rather than hopeless.

Yes agree Laj, that is the key to me also. Playing some or all those four guys would have made us more competitive!                            We were anything but competitive at 0 score to 10 goals at half time.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL 2024 Elimination Final 1 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Brisbane
The number of posts to this topic shows the concern that supporters/members are feeling after last weekend.  Not only at the game outcome, but the deficiencies in player selection and player management.

It is suggested a letter could be sent to the club, (say to Brian Cook Chief Executive Officer) from the Moderators seeking explanation to some of the decision made by the coaches/selectors and hopefully some acknowledgement of mistakes .

There have been lots of good points raised by various CSC members (including several by Baggers that hit the bullseye.  imo).   To get the ball rolling, here are a few thoughts from various member postings for someone to compose a letter.

Team Selection  - Carlton v Brisbane final
Selecting payers who had been out injured, had been breaking down consistently during the season or broke down when last played,
Players who had performed poorly when selected for previous games.
Ignoring three young players who were match fit and had performed well in   the last two AFL games.
Leaving out Cincotta our best shut down player.

Team selection - Season 2024
Not rewarding player form in our VFL side
Failure to play young players from VFL side during the season in order they experience AFL tempo and to view their potential/development progress.
Dropping consistent performers Kennedy and Hewett to VFL side
Selecting players on perceived ability or past performance, not on form. (playing favourites)

VFL side - Strong seconds side/club culture often a feature of AFL premiership winning clubs.
(Eg Box hill Hawks, Geelong VFL Cats, Casey Demons, etc)

Our AFL listed players more likely to be ready for move up, if playing in a strong VFL side.
Carlton VFL side appears not to have the required level of support from the club to achieve.

Tom de Konning 4 goals at FF !

Seem to recall he kicked 8 (or 10?) playing in an U18 match prior to SOS drafting. Have been wondering whether that ability would surface one day!  :)

As is my want and somewhat irritating to some, I look through a psychological lens at our changes for this game and ask myself one simple question... how confident in their bodies to go flat out for 120 minutes will Doc, Williams, Cerra, Fantasia and Gov be? And that is central to my questioning of these changes. We can reasonably assume that Cinc, Lord and Binns would be confident in their bodies to go hard for 120 minutes. But I get the romance of Doc and the idea of going into the game with your biggest names.

Yes the question we are all wondering Baggers, which of those patched up bodies will break down during the game tonight!

Hard to be confident isn't it.  Will it be a 30 point or more loss or will the guys somehow conjure say a 2 point magic win.?

Good if Kennedy puts his partner and child first Thry.

Thinking of this season (!!)  and how to win the next two games.

Yes tough gig with all those injuries.  Do we still have a rookie spot available?
If we are to be without Charlie and Harry M. ..... "could" really roll the dice and bring in McMahon.
McMahon & Harry L, might be a better option than playing Young and some other up forward.

Very interesting to see how our coaches handle selecting a competitive team for next week's game

If we manage to survive well into the finals race, injuries to key players is always likely.
Therefore during the season we need to keep blooding/trying out at AFL level those players who are performing to a "reasonable" level in VFL games.   (IM humble O)
eg. a fortnight ago we could have played Harry Lemmy at CHF instead of backman/ruckman Young in that position.
Yes big Harry L. hasn't been knocking the door down with his performances, but appears to at least have some of the skill set.
Who knows how he will go at AFL until we give him a try.
Imagine how we would go in a final if we had both Charlie and Harry M. out injured? A bit late then perhaps to give a replacement their first game.

On the same theme, this week could be time to give young Binns his first full game.
As others have pointed out, selections lately by CFC seem to go to the more experienced "name" players, often rushed back in, who are soon re-injured.
