Notice Board (Visitors Enter Here) / Re: Board change
I reckon this will be a great appointment - so many other threads on here bleat about our club having no culture, and we can't move forward until the board is straightened out etc etc.  Well guess what, the old way of appointing ex-footballers turned property developers hasn't done us any favours at all.

The board of a football club should consist of smart people who know how to make a plan,  drive an organisation to achieve that plan,  and make confident decisions - and leave the football bit to those who are employed to do that job.

Do you think Rupert Murdoch knows how to work a TV camera or run a newspaper press?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Will Crippa win the rising star?
@DJC

Told you so!!  :P

In all seriousness it doesnt matter.  It was always going to be a matter of him having to build a profile before getting too many votes, and IMHO, although he had a better impact than his votes reflected, I think he did well to poll as well as he did given simply how few games we won.
Clearly the AFL coaches rate him pretty highly - not too far behind Bontempelli in the Young Players award (based on their performances in their first two years)

Best Young Player

1. Marcus Bontempelli - Western Bulldogs (557 votes)

2. Patrick Cripps – Carlton (527 votes)

3. Jeremy McGovern - West Coast (362 votes)

Jesse Hogan still only a first year player so I guess he'll win it next year.....

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Culture
Who is now studying sports journalism, writes A blog for Brisbane FC website, won a best and fairest and showed great leadership to a young group this year.

We don't work with these guys, We cast them off at the first sign of trouble.
Robbo is probably a beneficiary of the anonymity that comes with being an AFL footballer in a Rugby town.

No knuckleheads lining up to see if they can take out a big, tough footballer.

Melbourne Storm players regularly say this is one of the best reasons for playing RL in Melbourne (now there is a team with Culture....)

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: NAB Challenge Rd #2: Carlton vs. Collingwood at QEO
Only got to see the second half so far, and in reality, if the pies had taken their chances they would have won.  Our avenues to goal still look limited to me, the ball spent 80% of the time in the Collingwood half of the ground.  We really need to develop a hard-working half-forward line, beacuse we always seem to get stuck around the wings.  2 goals in a second half of footy isn't going to win too many matches....

Maybe I better watch the first 20 minutes to get re-invigorated?

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Radio Memories
For those in a ' certain demographic' (and based on comments over the years, there are a few!) who originally came from Melbourne, you might remember the days when 'The Greater 3UZ' ruled the airwaves.  Like so many other iconic stations around the country that we all grew up with, it has long gone with a totally different identity.

Tomorrow (Sunday) it is 90 years since 3UZ first went to air and in celebration, the 927 frequency will feature some of the best of 3UZ!  For those who remember Stan Rofe, Sam Anglesea, Don
Lunn etc, etc, etc , it might be worth having on in the background!!

Ahhhh, nothing  worse than having your game on 3UZ or 3DB :

"Carlton only 1 point behind, siren is about to go any tick of the clock, Doull handballs to Vin Waite who finds Robert Walls on a long lead, he swings onto his right boot down towards the teeth of goal.....(cue 3UZ announcer in studio).....Racing in the 9th at Shepparton...!"

Had to wait 5 minutes to find out what happened!

I can see the 'drug runner' side of the argument, but we will never be able to consider ourselves civilised while we have state-sanctioned killing.  Any country can make a law that attracts capital punishment, does that make it right?

Perhaps we need to remove the incentive to import drugs and remove the criminal element altogether.  While crime is involved, young people of all nationalities will continue to make mistakes and get caught.  Do they deserve to die for it?   Did you ever make a mistake in your early 20's ?

I can't believe how sad this has made me feel

Best wishes to his family - he was a cricketer, but foremost a son and a brother.....

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 6 MCG Home Games 2015
When you add the guaranteed 'away' games against Essendon and Collingwood, and possibly Richmond, Melbourne, Hawthorn, we might be at the G for a minimum of 8 and more likely 10 or 11  matches next year.

That's not a bad result.

Although I did start getting more fond of Etihad this year - about the only place we could win a game!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: We need to fix our twos....
Box Hill Hawks are just Hawthorn with two extra words in their name......

You only have to compare facilities at Box Hill vs Cramer St to realise there is no comparison between Box Hill Hawks and Northern Blues.

When Carlton players go back to the NBs, it is like being sent to Siberia, and they play like it.....

Robert Heatley Stand / We need to fix our twos....
Watching the Box Hill Hawks yesterday (and Footscray on Saturday),  I can't help thinking we are going nowhere until our newbies have a decent kindergarten to learn the craft.  Our development of young players has been nothing short of disastrous for many years, and we need to emulate what the successful teams are doing.

I think it's time to put a Carlton side in the VFL, play at Visy park every week, and get some mature bodies on the VFL list to give the kids a chance to learn alongside them.

Geelong, Collingwood, Essendon, Footscay and Box Hill (virtually the Hawks) are doing it now, and their AFL sides are showing the benefit.   Heaven knows the Northern Blues are hardly an attractive option for a VFL-level player.

Time we joined the party before we get left behind yet again.
