Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 21 : Blues Torture Tigers (Tiger-Taming Tweets)
Bell was doing a fair bit of grunt work in terms of  spoiling and ball winning in the clinches, which I think we benefited from. He just needs to improve his disposal which lets him down atm. I'm confident that will get some focus as he's very useful to have around the clearances and contested ball situations.

Also let's the opposition know he's there - ask Cotchin.

Cookie...Glad to see you could see what I saw with Tom Bell....his big body is a must for the senior team.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 21 : Blues Torture Tigers (Tiger-Taming Tweets)
As president of the Tom Bell fan club I refute the accusers attacks on his awareness and disposal......we need Bell in this team and the kid has not been given a fair go.
It was his body in the packs along with Robbo's aggression that provided the pathway for other players and stopped the Tigers mids from getting the footy and dominating the clearances. Sure he gave the ball back by foot a couple of times and Jackson dragged him down in the last 5 minutes but hey it would have been nice for one of his teammates to let him know he had to get rid off the ball.
He missed a tackle early as well when he tried to bump but he also shook Cotchin up with a nice hip and shoulder and stood up in a tackle to give the ball off for a Mclean goals I think it was...

Bell needs educating in the ones not this stupid play him one week, then drop him the next week and leave him in the NB's for a month or more....his awareness will only improve with game time.

Casboult looks to have won the battle for the tall forward/ruck spot...some difficult marks and his large frame was what was needed vs Maric.
Warnock did nothing around the groun but his ruckwork was ok and negated Maric.

Touhy blanketed Martin and continues his role as specialist goalkicker from 50m.........the big improver is Curnow ans he looks to have the mantle as No1 tagger.

Menzel.....classy player, only needs a few touches to have an impact.

Waite.....not really suited to CHB IMO but he battled on and I thought the commentators on Fox were harsh on him at times

Graham...came on and can sniff out the ball really well....lacks a bit of depth in his kicking but a promising player.

Yarran....topical player...not enough for me and ditto for Eddie.

Scotland and Simpson, both played well...leaders and you could see the win meant something to Scotland...

Jamison...good game on Reiwoldt..

McInnes..old fashioned defender and was ok

Hendo...gave us a target and competed well...

Armfield....ordinary early but given another tagging role and he responded...kicking is still very wonky though.

Mclean....nice game, looked composed, kicked goals that got us back in the game and one of our best.

Bootsma..had a shocker...everything he did turned to crape but there is something about the kid to like and we need to stick with him....

Robbo....played like a man on a mission and when the chips were down he was one of the few fighting on....good sign was he looked to handball a bit more and
he might be saving his career if he can keep that standard up.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 21: Richmond v Carlton (Pre-game Prayers)
The Graham kid sounds like he has the talent but can someone confirm whether or not he gets the hard ball as this is a glaring deficiency with our side. Give me hope, someone?

I haven't seen him shirk an issue. Goes hard. Gets the inside aggot and can link up on the outside and deliver effectively. As I mentioned previously, he's got a footy brain hence makes good decisions quickly and acts.

Agreed - no obvious weaknesses at VFL level.

I think he lacks a yard of pace but has the smarts to make up for it,  and is a clever player.....also think he is the type of player like Dane Swan that you dont expect too much defensive work from but as Ron Barrassi once said just give me possessions....

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Baby Blues vs. Werribee at Visy on Sunday 18th Aug
Brown and Greenwood are interesting players for Werribee...the former is a tall rangy KP Forward who takes a good grab....still very raw but rookiie material IMO and Levi Greenwood is a player who seems to play well every time I see him on the TV but cant hold his spot in Nths senior team....

The Sports Desk / Re: The Ashes - Fourth Test at Durham
Lost it when Bresnan and Swann made those cheap runs at the end.......50-60 of those runs were worth 120 in scoreboard pressure.

Harris had tired and Bird was bowling medium pace rubbish at that stage....in fact were are in danger of burning Harris out again if Clarke keeps throwing him the ball everytime we need wickets

England spread the workload better...Anderson didnt have to do much this test because Broad stepped up...

I've really started to hope now that O'Keefe gets a gig this week from all of the positive reports on him starting to appear!

I am happy to be one of the positive reporters. The bloke can play... really play. But his body has let him down, badly.

To re-iterate... he is strong, has a footy brain, excellent disposal, great tackler, big/accurate left foot, has big voice on the field (unlike some of our introverted dudes), obviously liked by team mates and has a dash of measured mongrel. To repeat... but his body has let him down.

Sub or one more week in the Magoos.

Need to play him....his career is on life support and he will be cut IMO if he doesnt show something on the big stage as he is one of the easier targets to get rid off with little explanation required.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: The Season Over Thread
Forgive me if this is inaccurate, but isnt Mclean and Sewell a similar type, and isnt Cachia and Curnow on that sort of level as well?

The only reason I like the idea of bringing in Sewell is the way he might be able to help prop us up, but even so, is he coming here to earn an easier game making him counter productive to what we want to achieve?

I think its important that we only bring in someone who will earn their spot which means a recycled retread from another side that is currently not getting a look in because the club culture is divisive and is not part of the in crowd.  So in essence, Shaun Grigg...

We would have to look at Melbourne, GWS, Gold Coast and perhaps Collingwood for those purposes, but until we fix our culture, even that will be a waste of time.  Its a right pickle to be in.  I think Richmond got it right when they chose the route they chose a few years ago.  Just went a big cull to the list, stuck with quality people and kept churning over the list until they got the right mix of players.

We had the prime example of player in Chris Judd to do this, and sat on our eggs...  Might have cost us in the end.

Tigers have recruited well ...its not rocket science why they have improved....Maric is now a genuine A grade ruckman who can control games and protect his smalls, Chaplain has shored up the backline and made Rance a better player, Morris, Ellis and Vlastuin are hard kids with long careers ahead of them. They also picked the right man to be captain and thats Cotchin....
Can the Tigers keep recruiting well , get rid of their remaining duds and take the next step...thats the challenge they have...

Unacceptable in every way.  Simpluy unacceptable.

Writing is on the wall but the club, and has been for at least 6 weeks, but our clueless coach can't see it.

The gameplan is obselete, even if we could enact it.

Its like a broken FG record - for 10 years we are too weak physically and we have too many small players, but hey, if the opposition can chuck the ball away every time why even bothering to tackle... I think the asset in brute strength is breaking tackles, not laying them, and holding your feet (core strength).

Our lack on on-field leadership is galling.

We need to cull 10-15 players because we haven't made calls for about 3 years and have persisted for to long with spuds like Warnock.  Who gave that useless hack a 3 year contract???Other blokes have become too comfortable. Bryce Gibbs - as disappointing a player as I have ever seen at Carlton.  in the 70's we had a term for blokes like him - a glider.  A bloke happy to run around and get the odd kick and get paid, without bothering to work up a sweat or get dirty. Closely followed by one C. Yarran.  How about actually contributing something Chris?

Mick needs a boot in the bum from the board.   Blokes need to be played in their correct positions, dropped if out of form, and given work to rectify problems.

Why is Walker kicking out?  Is Malthouse seriously so stupid?  Stuff like this is just happening too much.  Does Malthouse even know the players?

Thought Judd was head and shoulders our best, McLean at least tried, Watson and Bootsma (second half ok) but for the umpteenth time this year - midfield was smashed.  Rebuilding has to start there, it is our biggest problem.

Prof....Wont get an argument from me on any of those comments except I'm not prepared to judge MM until I have seen his recruiting/trade work and the results it brings in 12 months time.
Problem being to replace 10-15 players you need 3 years of solid recruiting and the Carlton philosphy is we dont rebuild just refresh....that mentality usually leads to crazy trades, too many retreds and more chaos as the coach under pressure gets desperate for short term success that cant be sustained and to win flags you need sustained success over a cycle of years.

Yep - said Jamo was done just 2 weeks ago & geez, he was defended admirably by some for reasons I still don't know. Just another cog in this broken wheel of ours.

Notice Curnow was listed in our best.....he had a crack, I'll give him that, but his direct opponent was Cooney = FAIL. Cachia's direct opponent was Griffen = FAIL. Tuohy's direct opponent for a lot of the day was Grant = FAIL. Warnock = FAIL. Walker = FAIL. Murphy = FAIL. Gibbs = FAIL. Armfield = FAIL. Henderson = FAIL (although the kicking to our forwards was abysmal....again). Waite = FAIL. Garlett = FAIL. Betts = FAIL. Menzel = FAIL. Simmo = FAIL. Rowe = FAIL. Yarran butchers the ball by foot = FAIL.

Bootsma gets spared as his spoiling was exceptional, as was his field kicking, although one horrific missed tackle nearly earned him a FAIL. Juddy, McLean & Scotland = Pass.

Brettie....Bootsma had Grant didnt he and got spanked..then went to Jones and had another goal kicked on him but he did do better after half time and the kid his best.

But seriously we got beat by the likes of Jarryd Garnt, Will Young, Tory Dickson, Jason Tutt. ???...Grant hasnt played a decent 4 quarter game in his life, just shows how much commitment our blokes had tonight..... er I forgot...Mark Austen ...yep that superstar...thats how bad we are going, well beat by nondescripts and our own ex duds....

Dont stop at 10 players cut Mick ...go for 12-15....get some who care and have some pride.

Gibbs started on Grant EB1, Bootsma was on him for maybe a few mins, but that was about it.......Grant had a revolving door of Carlton players on him throughout the game. Bootsma spent most of the game on Jones & did a fairly good job.

Brettie...My apologies then to Bootmsa if he had Jones for most of the game becuase he would have been one of our few winners in thats case.....and the blowtorch needs to be applied to Gibbs if had Grant intially...both his defending and disposal was very ordinary IMO and I remain dissapointed in Gibbs ability to get to the next level.

And another thing, Jamison looks shot. Needs two of Watson, Mcinnes and Henderson to support.

We Agree...its time to recruit another younger fullback who can kick the ball better...Jamo continues to butcher the ball and for a senior player I am dissapointed in his leadership....

Watson continues to improve and its makes a mockery out of reserves form....some players never show anything until given senior opportunities.
