Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 11: Post Game Excitement: Carlton vs Brisbane
The amazing thing about this game is that when the draw came out, I thought it was going to be our first real chance for a win in 2016.

I was wrong, it was our 6th..... :)) :)) :))

Didn't really play all that well and still won by 38 points coasting.....

Please don't wake me up

Strangely enough, I think this game is more of a test than the last two weeks - this time we are expected to win, and probably by a decent margin.

It's one thing to produce when your collective backs are against the wall (don't get me wrong, that stuff is great), but it will be interesting to see how well they go when it is expected of them.

A good team in our position would win this one by 6-10 goals and not be too troubled.

Just finished watching the Port Adelaide replay - couldn't believe my eyes.....

We have Peter Griffin playing in the back pocket!

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: What Has Turned Around Bryce Gibbs ??
I disagree he's been threatened with playing in the 2nds - he doesn't strike me as a player that would take kindly to threats.

I think he's probably found in Bolton someone who understands that he is one of our best players and is installing in those around him the confidence to get in and do their part - I reckon BG felt if he played his best each week it'd all be left to him and he felt overwhelmed by it or simply just didn't think it should all be on his shoulders - I reckon bolt is making those around him
More accountable
It was very noticeable that Bolton ran straight to Simmo after the siren went last week, and he refers to him as the 'spiritual' leader of the club.  From the outside looking in, it seems to me that Gibbs is playing more 'Simmo-like' - getting down and dirty when he needs to, scrapping for everything he can - and when that it added to his natural ability, he is at the next level.  It's also noticeable that he is getting into push and shoves with the opposition, protecting the younger guys.

I reckon Bolton has challenged the leaders (Murphy, Simmo, Gibbs) to be just that - leaders.  Not only in voice, but in actions.  As Bolton himself said, he has been impressed how the leaders have become an extension of the coaching panel.

There is another part of the culture developing which is just as pleasing - watch the replays carefully.  After a player has a bit of a stuff up like a bad kick or a missed mark, at least one other player comes over and gives him a pat on the backside as if to say 'don't dwell on it, we'll get it next time'.  Successful teams are very good at celebrating their victory moments, but they are also good at collectively owning their problems and dealing with it in a positive light. The attitude of "We're in this together" is fundamental to teams of any sort.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL Rd 7: Northern Blues vs Coburg
One thing that is not helping the Northern Blues much this year - because we have no Friday Night games, and plenty of Sundays, there are many times when the emergencies for the ones cannot play for NBs in case there is a late withdrawal - for example, neither White or Graham could play at Willy on Saturday.

Not good for these guys who are trying to run into some form, either.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 8: Jim Park Voting: Carlton vs Port Adelaide
Team B+ (always room to improve)

Docherty 5
Gibbs 4
Kreuzer 2
Simmo 2
Curnow 1
Rowe 1

Docherty is fast turning into our most important backman - reads the play so well and his dash out of the backline is super impressive.  Still not faultless, but rarely beaten 1 on 1.

I snuck Sam Rowe in because I think he did a great job helping in the ruck and was more than useful when he went forward.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: You're The Coach - Where Is Their Best Position ??
Murphy - where he is right now - more rest in forward line to give us more star power down there
Jones - goalsquare lead up, give him 6 games in a row
Gibbs - a la Murphy
Smith - NB's but develop as a small forward
Simpson - in his best position now
Armfield - defensive forward
Walker - second option next to Jones
Casboult - half forward leading to centreline - and make sure there are 3 guys running past for the handball when he takes a mark
Buckley - being played out of position atm - his best work is when he can run in a straight line - back pocket/half back
Everitt - half forward - he is our best kick at goal atm
Jaksch - doesn't have the smarts to be a forward yet - get him ready to take over from Jamo - plenty of gun forwards learned their craft by starting as a defender.

The other guy I think we should consider developing as a big defender is Kreuzer - can't mark in packs, but spoils well and is a great competitor on the ground.  He's not giving us too much as a ruckman atm.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 1 Carlton vs Richmond Post Game Prognostications
I went along hoping to see effort.  Didn't think a win was possible, but we played well enough to get the chocolates.

For the first time in a long while, I felt like I was watching a Carlton TEAM  :) :) :) :)

By the way, watch Bolton's presser - so much better than the grumble-faced rubbish we saw for the past 3 years.

Can we give votes to the Coach?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: The Journey - Tues 15/3 830pm Fox Footy
There's no doubt that there were marshmallows and fairy floss flying left right and center.
KJ was being gently blowtorched, and CC may not be the brightest spark, but it gave off a positive glow...
The one in all in bit was heart warming to anyone who was at the scum game at Princess Park a couple of weeks ago...
It buys time, it's better than we've delivered in the past, we are a work in progress.
Bolton said something very interesting at the very start "The players love comfortable - we have to keep them uncomfortable, not stressed or anxious, just uncomfortable"

Under Malthouse = Stressed, anxious and disconnected
Under Bolton = Uncomfortable, connected and tuned in

Let's hope so

Ultra impressive.....

Quote of the show for me, wrapping up the draftee camp, Bolton was asked by one of the draftees "What did you learn from this trip?".  He replied "I learned one thing, one thing more than anything - our future is strong at our footy club'

I feel like going down to training and doing a few laps for Bolts myself!!!
