Ladies Lounge / Re: Draft Order - AFLW
Here tis;

Carlton’s marquee player Bri Davey selected the ball carrying the No. 3, meaning the Blues will also have picks 14, 19, 30, 35, 46, 51, 62, 67, 78, 83, 94, 99, 110, 115, 126, 131, 142 and 147.

Carlton's pick translates to pick #1 in the Victorian Pool of nominated players.

Essentially the Victorian Pool draft order is:

Round 1.
1. Carlton
2. Western Bulldogs
3. Collingwood
4. Melbourne

Round 2.
5. Melbourne
6. Collingwood
7. WB
8. Carlton

then back to the Round 1 order Round 3.
9. Carlton
10. WB
11. Collingwood
12. Melbourne

then back to the Round 2 order for Round 4.
13. Melbourne
14. Collingwood
15. WB
16. Carlton

etc etc etc...

Baggers with 3 picks in the top 10, lets hope SOS can do the same for the big boys...  :D

Ladies Lounge / Re: Steph to the dogs ?
Demons can't nominate Steph can they. My understanding is the PPs are only for people within the club in same fashion already. Given Steph was at the dogs, its draft or nothing yeah.

Has she nominated yet? Will she nominate for any draft outside VIC?

Correct. Dees can't get her as a priority pick.
Interstate clubs could if she agrees to move.
Is nominating and for the Vic draft pool is my understanding.

From Aug 22nd....
http://www.girlsplayfooty.com/2016/08/lions-sign-emma-zielke-as-afl-explains.html
We have a couple of people on this site who might be able to confirm or deny this info.....

Krud,

WB have signed Emma Kearney as their priority pick.
All other mentioned selections are confirmed. Only Demons left to nominate their priority pick.

Stephanie at this stage will go into the draft.
Draft day 12th October, 2016.

Draft pick order happening on the 29th September 2016 I think.

Ladies Lounge / Re: Doggies vs Dees
From what I've seen, congestion isn't an issue in women's footy; one of the reasons why it's good to watch.  However, the alliance with AFL may influence the coaches to copy AFL tactics.

16 a side certainly helps with less congestion.

But to me it always gets down to executing the skills of the game properly that eliminates congestion.

At all levels, players spread & run and if the skills are executed correctly, teams a opened up and the game flows quickly with no congestion.

Teams of course will deploy tactics to cover that, which causes congestion if the skills aren't  pinpoint or the ball movement slowed.

With regards to last nights game, the girls actually used an smaller football than they usually use and talking to them after the game they all said that the ball felt different off the boot and took some adjustment with the force used to pinpoint passes. Generally the majority of those girls at this level would hit targets on a regular basis with the ball they normally use.

But overall, I thought the game was at a good standard. And very much what you'd see at the VFL level with regards to hardness, run & courage.

OK cool.

Isn't there also some kind of rules for the draft that means vic clubs draft vic players?

Those players nominating for the draft get to nominate which state draft pool they want to be put into.

A Vic player can nominate for the QLD draft pool, SA pool etc... for example
Selecting the VIC pool means there are a possible four teams be to be selected by.
All other states will get down to whether that club rates you high enough to be picked.

They will then only be selected by that state. If they don't get picked up they are not eligible to be picked up in any other state draft pool.

Hope that makes sense.

BTW, can someone explain why we have 3 players already? Thought you were only allowed to sign 2. No other team has 3 that i'm aware of.

Krud,

The AFL has allowed all teams to nominate priority pick players before the draft.
The VIC teams get one pick and will be used on players the club has put time & effort into the last 3-4 years or are currently working/assisting at the club in some capacity.
(i.e. Lauren Arnell assisted in putting the License proposal together and is working at the club. They nominated her last week) Hence the three players for CFC.

Doggies & Pies have nominated theirs as well.

The interstate clubs have some extra priority picks. Rules similar but have additional picks to try to get some talent from other states (read that as Victoria & WA).
Brisbane nominated Ashmore on Friday.

The rest of the player go into the draft. Draft day 12Oct16.
Draft nominations opened up on Friday.

Ladies Lounge / Re: Welcome Darcy Vescio and Brianna Davey!
I agree totally. Welcome t the Mighty Blues, ladies. I hope you enjoy your stay! :)
As Steph is a former poster on this site, I hope we can pick her up. I am sure she would LOVE to be part of the Old Dark Navy Blues!

She'll be trying.  :D

BTW.
Great gets by Carlton. Both will hopefully be around for a while.
These ladies are great players.
Both versatile.
Think McConville for Darcy and as for Brianna she is a tough nut, can take a grab, good defensive and can run in mid-field. Difficult to tackle.
Enjoy the show everyone.

Ladies Lounge / Re: Building the women's team
Why have we submitted our marquee player list already if you have until the end of the month?

Thanks for the update

My understanding is that each club had to give the AFL a list of 5 players (in order of preference) that they would like to be marquee players for their club.

The AFL then looks at the requests and I think will talk to the players and get their feedback & address any issues that may arise (i.e. is a player prepred tomove interstate, etc...)
The AFL wants to spread the talent, take into account the geographical/living away from home issue issues etc...

At some point the AFL will then decide the marquee players for each club. This is mooted to be mid to late July.

After that the clubs will enter the draft and build their lists based on a yet to be decided draft order & rules. This I think occurs in October.

Pre-season for the squads will commence in December.

Any word n1ip?

If ur referring to Chachi, I'm afraid were still in the dark.
The doggies have met with her and some other doggies and they have kept them in the loop with their intentions and the goings on, but nothing concrete ATM.
Say their keen to retain.

Davey going to CFC may actually assist that endeavour.

She'd be happy to play anywhere but if not the doggies the CFC would be her prefered.

We'll know more when the AFL & Clubs name the Marquee Players later this month.

ON CFC if we've snagged Davey & Vescio then the club has done well.
Both young, talented, versatile and present very well.
Vescio has some x factor as well. Loves a specky.
Can build a team around these girls.

According to today's Age, we lodged our five-player marquee wish-list with the AFL last week and we have prioritised former international goalkeeper Brianna Davey.  New coach Damien Keeping identified Davey as a priority after standout performances with the St Kilda Sharks in the VWFL.

Collingwood was interested in Davey but it seems that we have secured her services with the offer of a three days a week community role.

Great get if we land her.

Skilled, hard at it.
Can play back, forward & mid (big tank). Great tackler and even harder to tackle.

Well spoken and very professional.

Ladies Lounge / Re: Women's League
Is she earmarked for the dogs in one of the 'marquee' spots?

Up in the air ATM moment.
She's doing a fair bit of promo work for the doggies, but nothing mentioned about marquee spot.

To be honest the WB have been great with the way they've handled all their girls. Really professional.
Wouldn't be the end of the world if she remained there.

But the NAVY would be a great option...
