Could you run someone like Marchbank or Kemp as a defensive forward hard tagging Blakey?Need to stop Gulden.....best disposal in the comp and AA material again.
I think stop Blakey's run and you smash Sydney's ball movement, he's the trigger for a huge percentage of the Swans attacking plays.
If we get Fog back, the loss of Cotters won’t be critical. If Fog’s not right, the next man up would be Binns. He isn’t far off Cotters in running power but his lack of experience and defensive intensity could be exploited.Problem is finding a suitable opponent too where you can afford to risk him defensively hoping to gain an advantage with his rebound work.
Williams does his best work with the ball in hand and has produced moments of brilliance running off halfback. He is vulnerable when one out and closer to goal, particularly early in games when umpires are more likely to pluck frees. If our defence is well set up, Williams isn’t as vulnerable and can hurt the opposition with his run and creativity.
I guess that it boils down to whether we value rebounds from defence over stifling the opposition forwards.
Where do you play him? Cant defend to save himself. The midfield experiment has already failed once. Maybe fwd?Tough question....trial as a small forward?
I wasn't saying that he needs to play down back, just that he might need to play. Running out of soldiers.
Who comes in for Cottrell?
The outs last week were Fantasia, Young, Cuningham and Williams.
Cunners is injured.
Young is a different type.
So pick 1 out of Fantasia and Williams......or someone else from the 2's. Binns?
Cottrell out.Not sure I want to see Williams play down back with no suitable opposition....
Cunners injured in the 2's.
Williams might be forced to come in.
Cottrell for the Lizard.....?Too outsized imo....Cottrell might have to play on Gulden, clearly the best and most damaging winger in the comp with his kicking being elite and if he plays well the the Swans forwards are going to be well supplied.
Heeney is the matchup that looks almost impossible. Sydney were ruthlessly efficient against the Dockers over here and he was their best again. It's a pretty powerful side when Luke Parker can't get a game.Id expect Parker to be back this week....
He reminds me of Skinny Lappin who became a legend for us.Reminds me a bit of David Glascott......if he can be half as good I would be happy.
I think he didn't have any touches in his first two games!
If this forum was around then he would've been a lightning rod for negative comments.
Lucky it wasn't.
Ollie just need to do his job and learn his limitations and play to that. Oh and build his core strength.
Vossy said that Kennedy probably did too good a job on Petracca!Kennedy following Petracca down forward would have been worth a go, in the old days it was common for players to stay on the one opponent all day and follow them into different positions.
It's interesting how the run with player's role normally changes when their opponent is shifted. I suspect that Kennedy would have continued to get the job done if he had stayed with Petracca. He has played as a defender recently and knows the structures and patterns. We would have been a midfielder down, but Melbourne was and we have plenty others to rotate through the midfield.
Petracca is a cat who chooses when to put in.I thought Matt Kennedy did a good job on him in the middle for the first quarter and a half, it was only when he went forward he became a problem. Thought he tried at least unlike one Melb player in Fritsch, talk about lazy, if it wasnt delivered silver service style then he couldnt be bothered chasing or even competing and Goodwin dragged him several times and it was only in the last quarter I saw him making any effort after Petracca had done the hard work.
