I’m not sure what to make of that game. Of course you take the win. But again we get a bit roughed up and let them get on top after it. That’s Kind of concerning.

Had a period of really poor skills on show, and I suppose it’s a positive that even with that, we managed to win. But this was a team slated to get beaten easily today, and we just did it.

Not sure where we sit.

And if the Hawks get free kick Hawthorn next week after Clarkson comment, I fear we the supporters, will riot!

The general view on this thread re Callum Moore is that he is not up to AFL standard and put in a shocker today.

I had never seen him play until today and agree that he was a liability and  completely overawed by the occasion.

However, it was his first game and he was not the only forward to go missing today.

Given his height and weight, are we being too quick to dismiss him?  I keep looking for another Mitch Robinson  - somebody who puts in all day and takes the pressure off our lighter built players.

When we were free flowing in the 1st he was in and around where you’d want him to be, when the supply slowed and he got more attention from his opponent he struggled, not the first and won’t be the last...
Does he have a future ? No idea, but displays like today won’t win him many chances.
Let’s go BIG !

I agree totally. Mention people getting the stops stuck into them. Point out the terrible frees paid against us in the last quarter.
They have 4+ hrs on the plane to Perth to kill, make a video and send it to the umps boss and ask the questions.
2017-16th
2018-Wooden Spoon
2019-16th
2020-dare to dream? 11th is better than last I suppose
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time

Dochs deliberate was pretty obvious. You cannot tap the ball over the boundary.  He was very close to the line as it was and he should’ve put a bit more acting into it - the fumbling trying to pick it up, oops it went over.
However, north player did the exact same action later and it was throw in.  That inconsistency is what is frustrating.

A not very convincing win against weakened opposition going nowhere.

We were outscored in the last 3 q, outscored on turnover and outscored from stoppage - those last 2 factors alone usually mean you lose the game. Mitch "Teague is my bitch" McGovern has obviously been told that 25% output is sufficient to earn full pay, and plays accordingly. Harry McKay is also a big concern injury wise.

When it comes to coaching, Teague is the luckiest man alive. As Amos makes clear, some other mug did all the dirty work, then in rides Dinkum Dave on his white horse, gets gifted kids with games under their belt, get gifted blokes like Betts and Martin, and time after time we just barely drag our sorry ar$es over the line. Praise be, it's a miracle.

I don't think it is that simple. We are playing a completely different style of footy. Bolton never flipped the switch, ultimately he was conservative for to long. Unlucky.
What happened to my old profile?????

So we have two choices, Carlton circa May 2019 Under Bolton or Carlton circa July 2020 under Teague...... umm, next question!!

No one enjoyed their football under Bolton, he was too intense, too uptight, too uncompromising, yet the same group in a matter of days, with a different coaching attitude, beat the Brisbane who had a full head of steam!!

Even watching Bolton’s press conferences made me tense and uptight! Imagine what it was like for the players!

4/4 after 8, 2 losses less than a kick, took a contender to a kick after the siren to defeat us and we’re ( rightly or wrongly) being touted as a final 8 side.......  yep I’ll take Teague and 2020 every day of the week!!

No we aren't. Teague himself has said on numerous occasions that the style hasn't changed that much. As we can see with Clickbait Clarkson, there's nothing any coach can do about kids and hacks. He can barely get a yelp out of O'Maera, Mitchell, Wingard, Scully etc.

Paul.. A win is a win and while we had plenty of passengers we still did enough and it was the lesser lights who saved the day.
Eddie had a shocker, Martin was below par and Cripps was belted into submission.
We would have lost that game under BB, if we want to talk about hard done by coaches
and mistakes then Brett Ratten is probably your man.

Well we won, whether it's because we were good enough, or just luck, or whether North are down on everything, is hard to say. Apart from maybe the 1stq, it was an ordinary performance IMO, with far too many players down on form.

Yep and that’s what good teams can do on occasions. Conversely, 6 days before hand, we hardly had a passenger in a game that went to the wire.

"GWS should play more like Carlton" was a comment on one of the footy shows last week. It is not something we've heard a lot over the last 5 years...so I suspect Teaguey might be telling a few fibs when he says the style hasn't changed much or it could be that players are being played to their strengths in terms of positions.

Whatever it is we're different and credit to Teague for that aspect
The attacking free flowing style is 'chalk and cheese' compared to the recent past.
We saw it in the first quarter yesterday and then it kind of went missing.
There were probably a number of reasons for that and most of them have been touched on through the thread.
Injuries to personnel meant a change to the forward structure that's been working well in recent weeks.
It's interesting to note that Port struggled yesterday so last week's game may also have impacted.

If I have a concern it's that when North tried on the physical  stuff it did have an effect. We've been really good ourselves at times this year in applying physical 'pressure'. Physical 'intimidation' however is slightly different and something we're not good at. Handling that form of pressure also raises a few question marks. I think we can expect a bit more of the same in coming weeks when opposition folks analyse  yesterday's game.

Finally just on Cripps. I've been thinking, and saying for some time that he appears to be playing injured. Some have put his reduction in impact and explosiveness to his trimming down... and that may be the case.
Football is a funny game and a lot of our opinions are  based on our own perceptions clouded by bias or a simple 'bee in our bonnet.'
It may be that's why when I was watching Cripps in the pre-game run throughs and it came time for the players to break into a faster run it seemed to me that he was struggling to increase  the pace and took a 'check' moment before he got going.
