Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL 2021 Rd 12: Carlton vs Coburg
He needs to toughen up and if forcing him to get the contested ball doesn't do it, then nothing will.

He simply isn't the great user of the ball we all hoped he was....he panics too much.
So add another string to your bow now, there won't be a next year otherwise.

If it was just about wins, swap Cottrell and LOB. But its about development IMO.

I'd be interested to see how well Crocker does as the main man up forward. Could he have a day out being the main target or could he succumb to the pressures of being the #1 guy defenders will want to stop?

I wouldn't be playing him as an inside mid.   He is a winger/half back type.    I don't agree he is a bad kick.   Technically he is a good kick.

For mine he tends to make poor decisions when fatigued.   His errors in the Richmond game were late in the game or after repeat sprints.

Ironically for a player recruited for his endurance I don't think he is fit enough.

Seems to be a common theme amongst our list at the moment as we concede goals late in quarters and late in games.

Let him play the role he was recruited for.   We should have learnt by Dow, Setterfield, ZWilliams, SPS and co that playing players out of position doesn't work.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Pre game Promise AFL Rd 16 Carlton vs Fremantle in Perth
At least 2 changes. Murphy out for at least 2 weeks, Williams out for 1.
No word on Eddie Betts, Adam Saad, Jacob Weitering or any of the the other niggles from the Adelaide game. :(  (I don't remember them all: Silvagni was one.)

I could live with Williams being suspended had the other similar cases been paid. But they weren't. Fogarty didn't even get a mention.

I think Casboult will probably return, which gives us more height. But our team is remarkably short of talls at this time.

I wouldn't mind giving Honey a game. I don't think either Willo or Parks did enough to merit a call-up. Cottrell maybe? he didn't star, but he wasn't a disaster.
Ramsay might be an outside selection. But if the game is wet, I'd prefer Honey. The lad is stonger.

Newman was the medical sub and played pretty well.   He would come into the 22.

Not a lot to come out of this one.   With 12 players out injured we really didn't have a lot.    No key defenders, key forwards, inside mids, ruck etc.   Left with kids, wingers and flankers.

O'Brien couldn't get any space.    Got crunched as soon as he got it.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Review
I really hope Pavlich will take learnings from the Adelaide Crows review and rips the Board a new one, even though it's not in his remit. The Crows review was prompted by the disastrous camp, and plenty across the board, executive, football department etc. fell on their sword. I'm not convinced focussing solely on the footy department will get to the bottom of the problems.

Agree 100%.

There is something fundamentally wrong at the Blues.

I have no idea on Teague and if he is a good coach or not.    While I am not happy from outside perspective, I reckon you really need to be inside the four walls to have a great understanding of what is going on.

Saying that however the decision to hire Teague is one that baffles me.  Under Bolton it was clear we had development as the number one focus.   Samo, Dow and co playing midfield.    E.Curnow half forward flank and Murphy on a wing.    Development was clearly before wins.

They sack Bolton and Teague gets the gig and the focus changes to wins.   Curnow and Murphy spend more time in the middle.

We win more games.  No real surprise in hindsight.   No issue with sacking Bolton but the knee jerk reaction to hire Teague without  going through the process of interview other coaches boggles my mind.   What was the rush?   It's not like he was in hot demand?

We tend to be in such a rush.    The decision to recruit Williams on superstar money looks to be another.

It's not just the football department I would be looking at.

13 possies@54% for Dow.... Its not good enough vs his equivalent Hopper.
I know fans want to love him but he is still a long way off imo.

100% agree.   I am certainly not saying he is there or even that he is best 22.    Just that one element of his game is actually pretty good and the rest needs work.

Hooper is 3 years older than Dow.

Some good signs from Dow.  Agreed and we have no better options so give him a series of games.

Dow lead Carlton players with 4 centre clearances, 5 total clearances, 7 ground ball gets (2nd to Walsh with 8) and 9 contested possessions (4th).

When he is allowed to play in the middle, he can win the football.

The issue is when he has the football.    I would play him in the middle for the remainder of the season.

Surprised recruiters to be taken at 10... and now we know why. Serviceable Magoos player.

He was considered a top 20 pick.   Many mock drafts had him going to Sydney at 14.   The pick clearly hasn't worked, but it wasn't that much of a surprise at the time.
