Robert Heatley Stand / How do you think the Carlton Players will Poll in the 2020 Brownlow Medal?
Here they are:
S Walsh 13
P Cripps 11
J Martin 7
E Curnow 7
S Dockerty 4
M Gibbons 3
Murphy 3
Mackay 2
L Casbolt 1
E Betts 1
W Setterfield 1
Weitering 1
By my calculations, we actually we polled quite a lot- 54 votes.
Notice I have Casbolt getting a vote in round 4 v Essendon! He booted 3 goals in the wet that night, had 14 touches (7 contested), 228 metres gained, took 9 grabs and pinch hit in the ruck for 6 effective tap outs. A big game indeed by the Bolt. Sportsbet has offered me 10-1 for him to poll a vote. I'm on.
Nice effort by Walsh to win it ($1.70) Sportsbet and ($1.80) on Ladbrokes to poll more than Crippa.
Your thoughts?

We will probably have pick 6 as it stands in the draft. If Gold Coast can jag another win we may end up with pick 5.
Yep. And add these to the other 60 picks we've had in the last 4 years.

You make it sound like this was a one off. That's the issue with you "blue coloured glasses" brigade. You fail to acknowledge the short comings of a myriad of players on the list year in year out just like the club.
You are very very correct in your assessment Spanner. Truth is, you are sick of it. Unlike many others who put on the rose colored glasses and everything will be fine, you face the truth. So do I. We are lucky to have won 7. Realistically we could have won 3 and be bottom of the ladder. This, when we've recruited older players to complement our system, and on the back of a painful rebuild with more draft picks thrown at us than the GWS. It's a bloody disgrace and the club is not the club it was when it was great. This stems from the board and the horriffic draft selections and build plan of Silvangni. The coach? What a joke. Another first year outter which will take 6 years to develop. I'm very very angry tonight.
You can't polish a turd. You guys keep picking it up and placing on the polishing wheel in the hope that your efforts reveal some kind of brown diamond.
I'm afraid brown diamonds aren't worth much because as Marc Murphy, the biggest brown diamond of them all has shown, a turd is always a turd.

Dow is still playing U18 football, his kicking is one thing but his nous and awareness is poor and either he hasnt been coached well or he cant mentally handle the upgrade playing senior footy.
He has decent size, shape and can do the odd good piece of play like his goal vs GWS was well thought out but in general field play he becomes a novice kid like he is playing his first game.
On the wing he was cornered, ran into trouble and should have been pinged for throwing the ball but he gave up mentally in that contest, turned it over and couldnt think it through. He really needs a mentor like Chris Judd to work with if he is going to make it IMO or another club who might be able to coach him differently and make him grow up a bit quicker.
You look at Walsh and its like he is a 30 year old veteran comparing him to Dow who looks like a 1st year rookie...
I'm from Swan Hill where Dow was recruited from. I actually know his father well. The knock on Dow was always his kicking...all through his junior footy. This is not something that should have gone unnoticed by a shrewd recruiter. You simply have to do your homework before you select someone with pick 3. We didn't.

Next year, we say that every year, "they will lift next year". I think we have peaked with this group, I cant take the next step. Probably finish the same position next year, the problems (inaccuracy and by default goalless qtrs, brain fades) still exist. I cant see how they will be fixed other than by bringing new personnel...again.
We will only improve when they finally give the board the arse.

MacGovern is a fraud. Takes money pretending to play football. Awful recruiting decision.
Betts is finished. Casboult is so down he'd drop a pie. Useless.
So ducking angry right now.
Wonder if they'll purge my post again (as usual) for been honest and realistic. Anyway, here we go. The issue with Carlton is a simple one. We have a 'training wheels' coach who is struggling. There is no plan 'b'. Shut down the run and gun, and we go to water. That is a system issue. Secondly Silvangni... he butchered about 5 top ten picks in the painful rebuild. Dow, Seton, Mackay?, Obrien, Cunners, Stocker, etc.etc. the list goes on. That is why he was sacked. But too late for us. So that is a personnel issue. Thirdly, we keep holding on to the players that create the 'losing culture'. They are the senior players such as Murphy, Simpson, Kernow etc.etc. that have known nothing more than losing throughout their illustrious careers. They need to go. That is a cultural issue. Finally, the board. We will not accept that we are not moving in the right direction. We simply aren't. The club will be in the doldrums for another 10 years. It is a Terry Wallace 'rebuild of a rebuild.

It’s so bloody hard not to wonder if we are heading in the right direction when you watch a performance like that.
I was at last years game against them and we looked every bit like a team on the rise and if it wasn’t for some late awful decisions against us we deserved that win more then they did. And they had a full team off memory. I walked away disappointed but under no doubts we were going the right way.
Fast forward 12 months and year 5 of the rebuild we dish up this rubbish when they were no where near full strength and with everything to play for. I want to be opportunistic but I dunno what to think to be honest.
Interesting 4 weeks coming up.
I feel your pain Shawny. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... the club has sold us a lie. This is a Terry Wallace 'rebuild of a rebuild', and this, with another rookie coach. It's ridiculous and not fitting of our great club. The board has to go.

Don't talk crap. We played an experience finals side today while we've come from a rabble. We need to learn to ply under that pressure to learn how to take the next step because we haven't played finals for 7 years. If you know your football you'd know that basic fact.
No mate, his 'negative stuff' is reality. Would be good if those in the positions to make the big decisions at the club saw it too.
Not as if we aren't missing any but that doesn't count when the only reason you're on here is to knock the side.
Sometimes your negative stuff is just bullcrap..
