I think I witnessed the most absolutely clueless/braindead coaching performance I have seen for many a day this arvo 18 straight clearances to the Dogs and our supercoach sits in the box looking like Bambi in the headlights and scratches his chin . Lets Bont run head to head with Cripps all day and gets slaughtered...surly Curnow should have had him most of the day Doesn't hardly make one change to try and switch things around..throw anyone in there...SPS,Eddie,Fogarty anyone FFS maybe Harry in the ruck for a few centre bounces...just try something Zac Williams is an almighty $800k bust....gets on the park 50% of the time with chronic soft tissue injuries and can't even make the distance from 35-40m on a shot at goal...did we not do our homework? Never fear Murph is fit and free to save us next weekend v the Dees
My 2 c worth is as follows I've watched Carlton training over the last few years...pre Covid and since
Everything is at cruise control...nice running patters and most kicks hit targets...there is zero match simulation and pressure on kicks and tackles..no wonder we melt under full match conditions
Goal kicking practice a joke...sit there with 20 footys and kick away...no man on the mark or do a quick 20m sprint and have heart rate up when shooting ..like match day..what a joke
And of course can't have too many shots like Dunstall and Lockett did after training did due to sports management on loads
I heard Jack Riewoldt sneaks off to the local park with a couple of footys and a mate and gets in xtras...
No wonder he's the sharpest converter current in AFL as a FF
If we pick Paddy Dow again this week i'm going to need a bucket...he's playing like a Geelong Grammar public school boy and we wasted pick 3 on him and also O'Brien at 10 same school,,WTF? remember Billy Smedts..ex captain of Geelong Grammar...when will we learn.....
Gotta pick more guys like the Rock Lobster 46...see how he's gone since I called for his in 3 weeks ago?
Pretty dammed good on the wing..plays with heart and chases hard
Parks same...goes hard...we need more guys with a hard edge like these blokes...not pretty private school boys
I would be playing the Rock Lobster this week Cottrell no. 46 as he's the last bloke to show some spirit and grit after that late goal last year and we drop him....he can take Murph's spot...sorry mate we can't gift you a pensioners ticket to the 300 club. Don't need another Mick Martyn Doc 1 tackle in 2 games...now thats seriously embarrassing from a co captain..wtf especially in a backline thats leaking easy goals...
Williamson needs to go back to the 2's seriously soft..and one sided only....
If I was journo at the presser I would ask Mr nice DT....do you get your guys to practice on their non-preferred sides for extended periods like Tom Mitchell did in the VFL with the Hawks before he became a 3 time premiership player and kicks more with his left foot than right in later years?
What did our skills coaches do in the 6 months offseason to address the issue of one sided players like Williamson?.. He has been caught stone dead 3 times Holding the ball trying to stop and prop back to his left foot.... amazing an AFL player can get to this level as a one sided player as a half back flanker(maybe a key position player can)
Footy scouts know quick time which players are one sided..I saw .Saad v Richmond kick a pinpoint 45m right foot pass along the boundary line and hit a target...thats skill but now the common std....what a difference between our average performers and elite player like Saad we bring in..we are miles away
Get some hard nuts in Bam Bam Kennedy needs to play..at least he has a body that can hurt/impact
Ugly if we lose to Freo...last rites for the season
Plowman is a serious worry that should have spoiled... also 2 big guys in the pack for us on that Gibbons kick... surely punch it out... not let McKenzie take that mark which set up the goal.... did the Gov play today? He was invisible and back to his insipid worst
Here's my rant...sorry could be long but have posted once in 3 years...I've hit the snap point
Lets start with this matchup...Cam Polson today 1 kick 3 handballs v Dogs Billy Gowers 16k 6hb 12m...2nd best for Dogs last night..Andy Gowers-Hawthorn son..we delisted him last year after no opportunities...plays tough with mongrel...delisted the wrong G...Nic Graham almost 50 AFL games and continues soft loopy chip passes and we get fooled by his Bullants form 35 fluffy possies....SOS you made the call on that one and don't get on radio and say we can't change what happened in the past that call was on your watch
Kane Lambert...sure on Malthouse watch..2/3 years Bullants no games...Tiger Premiership player and in their top 5 elite players...never given a chance....we must have had an elite list last 10 years not to give these guys a look/run...NOT!!!!
I hear the Bagger drums from the old guard are beating hard for a change of our invisiible Prez...a Matheson puppet...the Carlton legends and I've spoken to a few want to see the farm taken back 1-12 is totally excruciating to this proud club
Could be a George Harris old style 1970's coup in the wind...have to take us off the Matheson's pokies money tit...too much influence...hard to replace the cashflow...but the soul of the club needs to be restored
Sorry Macca...also as GM loved you as a dour no.5 premiership back flanker and AA rep...but you read the news and injury updates out like you are a vet telling us your dog should get the needle or have a $2.5k knee Reco sorry mate your no Neil Balme 3 flags as Footy GM at 3 clubs....Where's Cain Little...ever heard from him CEO?
There endeth the rant
Would have taken 20 points pre the game...dumb me didn't take the points....I was proud of them today...they showed a lot 2 down but we have deeper problems at the top end in my view
Call me old fashioned but I reckon 10-12 of the Dess goals came from over the back goals that's why their conversion rate was so high....when I played A grade amo footy in the 80/90's I played back 6 and our coach would be livid if a goal came without a man playing back on the line...and that was not without a spare back like they play now...Sure modern footy requires pushing up and pressing but reckon that have would have saved 5-6 of those easy goals....maybe showing my age but the old goaltender might have worked today!!!!!
