Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Dual citizens in Parliament
Annoying she is....When I see her and Pauline trading verbal blows I fear for the future of the country....

Hmmm. I know you are not a fan of the Greens EB, but when you stand Sarah next to someone like Peter Dutton, well, I honestly fear for this country if people genuinely cannot see the damage far right conservatives do to do this country and it’s international reputation when compared to the greens. To call him repugnant is to hold back in my dissapointment. Utterly vile human being. Abbott, Andrews, Abetz, Morrison..nasty, self righteous, vindictive men. So yes, there are politicians far worse than Hansen-Young.

I was sad to see Jackie Lambie go. Rough diamond? Definitely. Genuine, ex military, battler raising kids on welfare. Family drug issues? None of which you would ever wish on anyone and yet would certainly never hear associated with the Liberals. Too busy hitching tax payer funded helicopter rides to visit their friends. Say what you want about her, she has courage and conviction and did’nt take crap from anyone. I admire that.

Liberals have given us a show over the last couple of terms. Very little of it good, if you listen to people not on their pay roll. There will be an early election. Count on it. Turnbull will blink, feeling itchy shoulder blades. Labour will annihilate them in an election, even with the fear mongering by the LNP. You can read them like a book. I’m sure there will be some terrorist concerns to distract people. Malcolm will be wearing his pristine leather bomber jacket and standing next to intimidating police/army types who actually do this stuff for a living. Quite sad really. Awesome country being ruined by people who want to divide citizens and who are hellbent on keeping to message and control the media coverage. I can understand why some people don’t watch the news.

Politicians don’t have a lot of time left in their diaries after focusing on their top two priorities. Being voted in and staying there. Make it 4 year terms so they actually have to focus on working with the opposition for the good of the country and put them all on minimum wage for a conpulsory 6 months. I’m sure they’ll “see the light” and grow some empathy to the battlers of this country. Not many politicians who I have time for. Lambie was at least genuine. One of the perks of being an independent, you sing from your hymn sheet.

Notice Board (Visitors Enter Here) / Re: Future of the footy forum
Having been here for over 10 years now I've seen a lot of changes that have happened on the site as well as the rise of other social media platforms. To be honest, I actually like that we're a little smaller than we once were. We've seen a lot of dic*heads in here over the years that would dominate every thread with their BS agendas, but I have a lot of respect for the opinions and insights of our current posters.

I'm on a couple of FB pages, but as other have said, there isn't a lot of depth in those. I also post on BF but that site infuriates me more than anything, with it's illinformed posters and slack moderating.

I love our little community here and can't think of too many changes off the top of my head  :)

My sentiments exactly. Big footy is a school yard, full of egos and the occasional revelation from a respected source or two. CSC is where the grown ups come to talk.

Think of that classic TV show: Cheers...Cliff (EB), Norm (Lods), Frazier (Kreuzer), Sam (Crashlander) from Cheers. Oh and Carla (Brettie  >:D )

Good times my friends, good times. Wouldn’t change a thing. Better now than ever. It’s maturing like a good wine.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Great Special Effects Sounds
While watching the new Star Wars trailer, it struck me, is there a more iconic special effects sound than the Star Wars Light Sabre?

[flash=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/v/Q0CbN8sfihY?start=23&end=27[/flash]

I cannot think of any specific sounds although I thought of plenty, The Predator, Alien, Darth Vader, Cylons, Star Trek Tricorder, etc., etc..

Any thoughts?

Good examples in here. Some odd ones too.

http://mentalfloss.com/article/75464/10-iconic-movie-sounds-and-how-they-were-made

Godzilla’s roar is pretty iconic. Good memories as a kid hearing that thing go off  ;D
The Wilhelm Scream...think of westerns when cowboys and Indians scream as they get shot/impaled.

Man, I miss being a Kid in the 80’s. was a bloody fantastic  ;D

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 22: Post Game Peace? Carlton vs Hawthorn
I was there as well, and remember the Dawks had the game in the bag because we were Fevola focused to try and get him to 100.

Gibbs, Judd and Murphy smashed them in the midfield hit up Fev repeat effort after effort. Clarkson put Croad, Roughead, Franklin, Hodge, Brown and Dew inside D50 late in the game when they were already 10 goals up. The Dawks were clear 2nd on the ladder with no hope of getting 1st or dropping to 3rd.

When I watched the replay the coverage showed Clarkson sitting in the box laughing at Fev's efforts as Franklin and Roughead kept dropping in front of him. In my opinion it was one of the most unsportsmanlike like efforts I have ever witnessed, probably only bettered by his hit on Aitken!

But what do people expect from someone who vandalizes property, abuses junior umpires and threatens people!

The irony of "The Dawks" labeling themselves as "The Family Club" is not lost on me!

Yes. I was there that day and that was the day I started hating another team. I'll never forget it. They wanted buddy to have the day to himself. Poor sportsmanship epitomised.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 22 Green Shoot of the Week
I personally have a soft spot for young Fisher. Love his pluck and endeavour. Put a Stone of muscle on his wee frame and those tackles will stick. Great pressure acts, get him a Tank over a couple of pre seasons and he will be a bloody nightmare for opposition players.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 20: Post Game Palaver: Carlton vs Essendon.
He is a Priddis/Mitchell...an extractor who wants to give the ball off.....he needs some more kegs on the frame, he gets pushed of the ball then is reaching around/fumbling the ball at times because
he doesnt have the body strength to hold his ground....he is a good player in the making IMO.

I like the young tacker. Shows plenty of zip and unlike Buckley, can lay a tackle and continues to harrass the opposition. He is the least of our problems. List if going to get a big overhaul again. Senior players should not be immune. The more picks we can get the better.

In relation to comments about Fisher needing to go back to the 2's. I said he deserves to stay in the 1's.
Which is an opinion i obviously don't share.

But then...So.....are we supposed to be dropping Fisher or not? He was only back for 1 game after all.

If Fisher needs to go down a level, then Murphy can lead the way. Our so called captain repeated last week's performance. Trade bait. Get rid of him while he has currency.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 14: Post Game Palliative care: Carlton vs Richmond
We lost it at the selection table.

Losing 3 kids with enthusiasm and hunger was going to be hard to replace.

Failure to bring in White to do a job, or as a swingman to mix things up wasn't a good start as he brings the requisite hunger to the contest.

Pickett, simply doesn't influence the game enough. Yes, he needs games and we need to cross our fingers, arms and legs for him, but it wasn't the week for him.

Smedts....not sure what we were thinking with bringing him in this week. If anything he needs to be played deep forward, not across the middle/backline.

Graham....does a job....just not well enough. Will always be a small step below AFL level, but at least we know what he offers and is consistent.

Already having Boekhorst and Lamb, while adding the above 3, meant we had a few too many ???'s on effort and output. Obviously losing Lamb early was not ideal, but we may have lost Boekhorst, Pickett and Smedts as well. Non-eventers, the lot of them.

I would've preferred the mature bodies of White and Armfield to all of the above.

But...hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and do better at the selection table next week.

Excellent points. I'll add terrible tackling attempts and insipid pressure. And Murphy. Show boating again. Man he is overrated, his timidness kills me. Set a very poor example today when the captain needed to smash someone into the ground and make a stand. I don't know, I just don't have the love for him like others do. Sorry, rant over.

Poor selections. Unfortunate about Lamb. Hope the lad is ok. Crows at the G next shall be a drumming. They will be baying for blood after the Hawks loss and we will get a pasting unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: US Presidential Election 2016
The principles and causes are similar - it's more a question of degree. We await now to see whether the underlying social and economic problems get addressed effectively. If they don't then what may happen next is extremely uncertain. Bear in mind that this is only the beginning of the story - it has a very long way to play out yet.

Hmmmm. Having a German father and having being born there and lived there many years, I think you are drawing a VERY long bow. The situations were totally different.

My German grandmother took many years to open up and talk about life under Hitler. She was a teenager when he took the reins. The look in her eye and hushed tone talking about that son of a whore. I'll never forget it. Ever. Utter betrayal. Crushing disbelief.

You have to remember that the hyper inflation and utterly brutal conditions set by the Treaty of Versailles meant that Germans, including the average punter, were screwed. There was no way back. Hitler, prior to going off the rails got people jobs, created a healthy manufacturing industry, built up autobahns, tremendous advances were made by the sheer fact that he gave people the hope to say No to austerity, roll up their sleeves and have pride in their country again. It's what he did to the Jews, gay community, gypsies, disabled...Jesus Christ, my Grandmother had friends disappear overnight. It was only much later she said, that people truly learnt of what the Nazis we're doing. She said to me "if you opened your mouth and asked too many questions...well you went missing as well". In conditions like that........

Anyway, yes, Trump sells hope, but don't compare a war ravaged country with crippling austerity measures set by foreign powers next to the elitism of the 21st century. Big difference. The elite just realised they went too far, especially the Republicans machine who thought they could belittle Trump and that people would see though him. Well he can't be bought and promised to "drain the swamp'. In a country where wage growth has stagnated for 30 years and sportstars earn obscene money compared to the average person, even emergency services and armed forces....well I can see how a protest vote could be attractive.

Would Bernie have beaten Trump? Pundits were convinced that he would have, but then again they were wrong about this final result.

I'd hate to be one of pundits in his party, or elsewhere for that matter, who bad mouthing and/or white anted him. I'd bet he doesn't hold grudges well....

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Rating the commentators
Darcy, BT and Bruce. Then daylight. Utter disgrace.

I haven't listened to the mid life crisis men's support group - aka Triple M footy show on 105.1 radio for years. Bunch of utter halfwits. Especially Garry Lyon. Appreciate he is going through some very significant issues, but nonetheless for years his character left a lot to be desired. Certainly doesn't hold back when dishing it out and pumping up his ego. Let's hope he has gotten the help he needs and started a new chapter in his life, is more modest and measured and focuses on commenting. When he just talks football he is actually very insightful and enjoyable to listen to.

Rohan Connolly and Mark Robinson as well are in the "special" category...they stamped their papers during the Bombers fiasco. Impartial reporting my arse. Pathetic.

On the other hand, Nick Riewoldt and Maxi, as well as Juddy are actually quite insightful. I like to hear about the tactics and game play itself....if I want third grade comedy I can find another channel.

Some new talent is long overdue.

Interestingly Lods, an American colleague of mine noted several times that Obama has made changes in office that will make it easier for a "Trump" to get into the White House.

Hilary's biggest challenge, her election, was beating Bernie Sanders. Christ, if only people had voted him in. Polls suggested he would have smashed Trump.

What a set back for that Country. I do feel for the average Joe over there. Really do.

If she had to pull out for medical reason, is her vp running mate instated as primary candidate automatically, or can the democrats convene for a special sit down?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Rd 23: Post Game Reflection: Carlton vs Essendon
These mental lapses have been happening for a while, even when we were playing finals in 2009-2013. We would get a a couple of good wins then put in a shocker against a lower side. It's why we haven't been a real contender for over 15 years.

We need another reset! Reset the reset.
[/quote

Spot on mate. Even during the year we got up to 5th when Ratten was in charge, we always did well for two games, really well, and as soon as the media talked us up we lost. No mental backbone. It was great to watch when Ratten was there, almost like watching Kevin Keegan's Newcastle in the mid 90s, real swag buckling attack. Except we had a crap defence. The game plan was simply to overrun the opposition. Not ideal for finals.

And now we have a squad with way less talent.

Don't worry mate, the reset was pressed last year. I'm looking forward to finals footy, praying someone, ANYONE humiliates Hawthorn and that we have an excellent trade period.

To be honest, one of my concerns is what appears to be a lack of game day technical nouance by Bolton. The Bombers game was a great example.
