Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Participation: AFL Rd 11: Carlton vs West Coast
Haven't got much to say about the game today.

On to next week.

Very low key post there Kruddler.  I have a feeling what is to follow will be a tad more emotional and vitriolic.

And the content will be, in order:

1. Umpiring.
2. Lead surrendered.
3. Lack of physicality.
4-10. Various mistakes by players.

I, for one, am too irrational to post right now.

Saturday night salt on Friday’s wound - Josh Kennedy sinks the Cats. The Judd deal officially became the “Dud” deal at 5:04pm on 29th September, 2018.

Back on point - what a fascinating team we are! Are there any psychologists/psychiatrists on this forum? When Hawthorn kicked those last 2 goals of the 1st quarter how many of us could see the fear in our boys eyes? That’s where it starts. I swear it’s almost like the players have a focus control knob, similar to binoculars. It slides a little and suddenly the ball isn’t bouncing where it should, the distance between you and your teammate is ‘off’, a bogey man lurks in the shadows.
Brisbane and Saints had no trouble scooting to a lead and then going on with it.
wtf is wrong with us?

It's the next day,  and so frustrated about this that sleeping has been impossible, I'm  posting embarassing gibberish and dragging this site down, so apologies to all..... Gotta go for a walk and take a break.  Going to ban myself for a while,  best wishes to you all in these uncertain times,  may we all come out stronger in the long run.
No need to apologise. We’re all in this together (the shared pain of being a Blues supporter, not COVID).
Those frauds spoilt my Friday pizza night. Again.
“Gibberish” is a word I’d use to describe the last 3 quarters. Clarkson wrote the script on how to beat Carlton. I think Teague *is* developing his own playbook and style, but he’s yet to learn to tweak it to counteract particular strengths of other clubs. Hawks cut us up (as usual) with gut running & long passing. When they switched play on some occasions last night you could see 3 or 4 knackered blue boys out of position jogging across to try and catch their men.
As others have said, lack of on field leadership and the need for another elite mid remains our Achilles heel.

It’s the narrative of these losses which is so demoralizing. Bet your bottom dollar that at least 3 or 4 games a year for over 10 years now have followed this template:
x rediscovered their mojo with a stirring win against the Blues ...
x snapped an x game losing streak with a breakthrough victory ...
Under enormous pressure, coach x pulled off a stunning win against the Blues ...

Well and truly over it.

The blocking by Port for Dixon was a master class, David King and the other idiots don't even mention this in their Dixon diatribe. Clubs get away with this, clearly something we should be investing more time in.

When do we play Hawthorn again? Answer is simple - employ these crapty tactics against thuggo Clarko so that he complains to the AFL and they act. Do the same with a ‘third man in’ at every tackle and the League will start paying it for what it is - holding the man to the original tackler.

Problem is, Carlton players have not mastered the art of subtlety, or know when to ham it up - that’s why so many 50/50 decisions go against us. Jones should have thrown his arms out and collapsed like a ton of bricks when he was blocked yesterday (even then, umps would call “play on” because it’s Carlton).

...we still have too many dumb errors...ie Cripps spoiling Weitering in goal square..Farrell crumbs, easy goal....Dixon handballs to well known long bomb expert Farrell who kicks long goal, Farrells opponent non existent, think it was SPS.
Levi misses like the old Levi from 15m at a crucial stage
Feel like any criticism of our players today is cheap but, yeah, that was poor by Crippa. Weits had it covered. And it was Simmo who left Farrell unattended.

btw, congrats Simmo - officially games ‘losingest’ player. Sad indictment on CFC’s last 20 years. But the T-Train is picking up speed!

We didn't get the 4 points, but we'll get plenty of respect and belief from that. We took it right up to the ladder leaders.
Absolutely. Couldn’t fault anyone today. Loved the spirit that’s developing. There was a weak act by a Port player in the second quarter and a few of our younger players took it right up to him. Bit of luck needed, but I guess they missed some sitters as well.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Analysis: AFL 2020 Rd 5: Carlton vs St. Kilda
I'm afraid SPS who started out with the club as a bomb is now just a penny bunger.

He’s giving NOTHING. Watched him closely in last q. Ball was in dispute in one of these rugby style rolling mauls, his opponent took 2 quick sideways steps and crouched low intently following the ball. SPS allowed the distance between then to get out to over a metre - actually looked disinterested. The ball popped out,  StK player swooped on it and was able to get a clean disposal away starting a chain which resulted in a goal.

Little things like that kill us.

Memo to Teague - he ain’t a defender’s bootlace.

The Aints beat Pittonet, tagged Cripps out of it, held Doc and negated Martin. All over.

Yep, out-coached. We're wasting another year because, even though this season will have an asterix, it's a bit like those lightning premierships you used to play as a kid - were a great chance for lesser teams to "fluke" the pennant. Not gonna be us, I'm afraid.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2020 Rd 4: Carlton vs. the Drug Cheats
I know i'm biased. I know I've had a fair few drinks, but f me some of the crape that is paid against us during a game you just don't see. It's just diabolical. Just a non-decision here or a WTF there. I just can't fathom it. I just don't get it.

Totally mystifies me as well. The number of times commentators want to “have another look at that one” when Carlton get “lucky” (Casboult’s mark) compared with blatant transgressions by opponents (Tippingwuti cannons into Levi’s back in Q1 with no eyes for the ball a la Reiwoldt) which don’t even warrant a comment?!?

What is going on? Is it as simple as subliminal subconscious bias?

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2020 Rd 4: Carlton vs. the Drug Cheats
I was watching the game with Mrs DJC who grew up as an Essenscum supporter but is now more or less agnostic.  During the third quarter, she asked, “Why are the commentators so biased against Carlton?”

Now, I accept that the commentators are paid/trained to maintain interest in the game and stop people changing channels, but they should do that in an impartial manner.

They probably were kids when we so arrogantly dominated the competition in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Still, their brains are too small to even understand concepts like impartiality and professionalism.
Equally intriguing though is why they love The Cheaters so much? Makes me think there was so much more to the drugs scandal then we’ll ever know. Which other clubs disinfect their post-2000 silverware every night trying to remove the dank smell that pervades the cabinet?
