Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 12 2026 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Geelong
There was one bloke who wasn't feeling it like the rest of us. :D  :D

https://www.facebook.com/reel/1509359814221775
I listened to MMM just before half time.
BT and Montagna both basically saying Geelong was cruising - in fact at half time BT said gee not a great game for Cats, Blues are being stubborn.  We had just kicked 4 to 2 i believe. Then they said youd expect Geelong to go on with it here 🤪 like commentate without bias. Sick of listening to such poor commentating

That's why I always listen to the ABC. Tired of  the BS that the other stations go on about. And best of all no ads.

Ison is a smart footballer. Several times he had a quick tap rather than a gather and then be tackled.

I would really like to see him and Moir in the side together who plays with similar vision and flair.
Those 2 working together could yield some magic similar to the krakour brothers from back in the day.

Yes agree. My concern is that Moir, as talented as he is, may not have the desire and hunger that is required to make a AFL footballer. Could he of been so talented as a young player that he never really had to work as hard for the football as others because of his talent and this is now catching up with him at this level.
If his desire was as good as his football talent would he be playing more senior football?
Don't know? Comments anyone?

Listening to the ABC broadcast and they said that Carlton kept their shape and composer and did not allow Geelong the space that they like. I have not seen the game yet so would like a rundown of what they did well and how the game plan has changed or what is been executed better under Josh since he took over?

In a word.....pressure.

Players were running contest to contest. Didn't allow Geelong time to breathe.

Geelong were doing the normal 15m chip kicks to free players, the second they took the mark, there was a bloke there.
Normally, they'd be trailing and casually coming to the mark.
We didn't give them any time or space. As a result, they made more mistakes than they may have otherwise....some under very little pressure, but because we were constantly up in their face, they expected it and were rushed.

Cowan playing on Jezza Cameron all game was something nobody was expecting, while Jezza still kicked 3-4, Cowan won plenty of contests and allowed us to free up Weitering a bit more.

But overall, it was simply pressure.

Thanks Krud. That's the impression I got from listening to the broadcast.

I was not at the game so have not seen any of his shots. Harry has his own anxiety with kicking for goals. He is much better from a distance when he can kick through the ball. Since he started kicking round the corner from close distance he seems to of lost confidence in his kicking. It does my head in when I see a player kicking around the corner from close range. When I was a kid the norm was a torp from any distance or angle. One that stands out is twiggy dunn in the GF I think kicking a torp from 50 and it going straight over the umpires head. If anyone can find any stats on his conversion rate say from 0 - 30 and 30 - 50 it would make interesting reading I would say.
I was surprised to see that Harry did not use his usual 'around the corner' technique when kicking for goal from set shots.  In some cases the kicks were from the left hand side of the goals so that was understandable but there was one (or two) where he kicked a straight-forward drop punt from position/s where he would have usually kicked 'around the corner'. They were quite straight kicks that didn't miss by much but the fact that he didn't go 'around the corner' suggested that he might have been acting under instructions to not do so.

Thanks RR. As I said was not at the game and with recent history of his kick round the corner close in maybe the club have said enough is enough. About time if so!!!!

Not sure about his conversion rate wrt distance, but overall he kicked 238.251.

Opps. Meant Harry's conversion  rate not Twigg's.  :)

Thought Harry was much better this week and was probably infringed every time he went for a mark.
Agree but 1g-4b is 1g-4b not matter how you look at it and its unacceptable from THE key fwd. This isn't a one off, week in week out for a very long time. He is getting to contests, clunking some marks and getting opportunities. The conversion or lack of is a real concern. Kick 4-1 and we win.

Today was humiliating. There is no other way of describing it. We haven't learnt anything from last year.
[1] There are others who may not agree, but Gawn's game today showed why having a decent ruckman is a necessity. He lifted and dragged his midfield with him. Pitto tried his heart out, but he isn't a top ruck.
HOK has also gone backwards, which doesn't help us at all. Reidy doesn't look like the answer either, although he does, at least, get a few possessions.
We need a top ruck if we are to ever get back to being a contender! We had one but he is no longer at the club!!

[2] Our fitness levels remain suspect. Our 1st quarter was as good as any played this season, but after that ...  :'(  :'(  :'(  Not fitness. Its mental. I remember an interview with Florent after the first game and he said that all the clubs have the same fitness base and that it is more of a mental issue.
This was clear last year, yet we don't appear to have addressed it at all. If anything, we conk our earlier. We've been in front at half time in all of our games, again! Yet, we've won one and were lucky to do so.

[3] Our disposal: Another point we noted last year. Has it improved? Well, I couldn't say yes. Our disposal at times was diabolical. Nothings changed!!

[4] Our decision making also appears no better. Again, it was obvious last year. Nothings changed!!

[5] Our style of play: it was incredibly obvious that we our game style needs work.
(a) We don't stay close enough, or put enough physical pressure on to make a difference. That was so obvious when you looked at Talor Byrne's efforts, which really stood out.
(b) we don't lead and we don't honour a lead. We just fill in the spaces, so there is nowhere to run into. Instead we kick long down the line to a contest, which was so predictable to the opposition that they know what we're doing better than our players do.
(c) Run and carry: after quarter time we barely had any. Melbourne continually had guys open because they ran hard and kicked long. We stopped until everyone was covered before we tried to kick.
(d) We don't run with anybody. Opposition good players feast out on us as nobody picks them up. Pickett doesn't get a kick on a negative player who sticks close to him. But allow him to run around and he kills you!
(e) We kick the ball to the opposition's netter players instead of to ours. The number of times we kicked the ball to Gawn was ghastly!

[6] Psychological help: we clearly need it, as we lack belief. We don't think quickly. We make poor decisions. Most of that can be cured if we have faith in our teammates. We don't. We really need to have this self-belief if we are to improve.

[7] Leadership: we really are missing a fair bit there. Our 'leaders' don't go the extra mile. When things get hard, they don't stand up. Melbourne's leaders really stood up when it was needed. Ours did not. We cannot afford that.

I don not think Voss will be coaching us next year. No matter how well he might speak, his tenure has been one of lack of leadership, being unable to run out games, not being able to react to changes and not improving our game plan.
I don't know who our next coach may be, but we need one. We have issues that need addressing and Voss isn't doing the job.

Absolutely disgusting effort after 1/4 time. You could see it happening in the second 1/4. I'm so sick of this crap I'm finding it so difficult to stay positive and go to a game. I seriously did not want to go today, but I did. What a disaster of a club we have become. I don't want to show my colours anymore for fear of been laughed at or stirred about who I support. I have been a member for 50 years and a supporter for 60 plus and this is the lowest I have felt about the club ever. I'm so disheartened by the club its not funny anymore.

On a positive note, Talor Byrne had a great debut for the club. A great first game. A goal with his first kick after using his body to edge out the Melbourne player and a couple of great bumps to clear the way for a couple of goals. Nice work young man and good luck for the future.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL Rd 14 2025 Carlton vs Port Melbourne
I had people over so was watching it casually in the background rather than with full intent.

Cowan straight back in for mine. Sooner the better.  He's too good for vfl level, and he's a tough competitor.  He'll get beaten a bit at afl level, but he's the type that will put his head where others won't.

Moir i reckon did enough to come in.   Very creative and way more involved with the odd stint on ball.  He can potentially do the Elijah role and probably possesses more of his skillet than others.

M. Carroll was ok.  Im not sure what it is about him i dont like but im not enamoured by him.   I think its because he's not overly physical.

Charleson was interesting.

Its hard to drop anyone on Thursdays effort.  We were so bad you could replace anyone who put their hand up and imho  a few did.

Lemmey is a straight kick, and a strong mark.  He's not a dominant player he's just a key forward.  Is he a good key forward at afl level?  He's not very mobile.  Will compliment Charlie.  I would rather him forward than young but he's a bit of a one trick pony.

Anyone know where EH is at? I think his class is sorely missed in the team?

Not sure if this was mentioned in this thread as i haven't read it all but did anyone else think McGovern 'come on' with only 2 mins on the clock and being 4 goals down after he goaled as a tell of how dumb he is or more worrying how poorly we are coached that a senior player has no clue the game was already shot when he tried to fire the boys up?

What a stark difference to a team like the Pies who have different gears that are used at precisely the right time to get them a chance to win  - while we appear to have NFI of what to do except the same bang and crash style regardless what stage the game is at. Yeah we may play a little more through the middle but hardly rocket science - You just knew GWS in the last quarter where going to change style to get the suns and they did it and got the win.

We are either the dumbest collection of footballers ever assembled or very poorly coached by a man that just does'nt have the tactics to employ when things are not going our way.

And when does Charlie cop it?  Our prima donna who is in the leader shop group (still cant understand who selected him in that group) - the guy needs an allmightly kick up the a5se for no defensive pressure or real want to attack the ball when he doesnt mark it. Bloke is a big part of our issue as his lack of effort runs thru the whole list.

Watch McStay's tackle late in St Kilda's game on Saturday on W-Millara where he had no right to lock on to such a fast nimble player yet he had the grit and want to give everything. I would show Mr Curnow that clip and say mate when was the last time you showed that effort.

Like Darling on Cerra?
Changed the course of the game.
