I think we've had worse years inbetween 2025 and 2002.
I think our standards have increased over that time so it feels like its a lot worse than it is.
Thats not to say there haven't been issues, but every year you get a couple season ending injuries...
I reckon that we overachieved in 2023 but that's our benchmark now.
No, we under achieved every other year. If we had've worked like we should've have early that year we wouldn't have been 4-9 and a fair chance ended up premiers.
2023 was our potential. You can't over-achieved as you are only born with so much genetic ability.
Thing is, so did Richmond's in 2016 after 3 years in the EF. So did the Pies List manager who were 17th in 2017 as well. Melbourne missed finals in 2020 and Goodwin just survived. Our's also had an unlucky miss in 2022, PF in 2023 and 2nd place at round 20 last until before decimated by injury. We do need a few odd changes to keep with the current game but hopefully now we are on to that. We need players with good footskills and footy IQ, Evan's has a heap of that. Not going to Cyril but will be good to have around. Had a great VFL year, took his time to find his feet in our AFL side, especially trying to be a small forward at Carlton (what a rotten job that is) but eventually it clicked. Gold Coast game certainly wasn't a dead rubber for the Suns. They were full on, and Evan's was great, couldn't have been better. You can only do what you can with what's in front of you, and he has been great since he come back, especially given by then he was able to gel with teammates.
Im not anti giving Frank another year but I wouldnt be giving him 2-3..... we are where we are for a reason and Wright has determined its not the coach and says we need better players and more depth so changes have to happen. Id be replacing the List manager but that seems unlikely..
I agree there, just another year. Then if he does a good job then 2 or 3. If not, then maybe none.
We need to use our compo picks well as a basically a good side, needs tweaks to play the current style of footy. Need half backs and wingers who can break lines and can use it, not to mention get it alot.
Still don't get the fascination for Evans, Young & White.
Can only perform when you get the chance. Evans did in spades. Probably our best user and also smart. Might not be Cryil but that is something we need in bucketloads. He won't be going.
Sometimes the armchair list managers find it hard to admit that the professionals know what they’re doing 😎
Evans is a marginal player. The fact that he’s at his third club indicates that three professional list managers felt that he was good enough but two subsequently decided that there were better options.
Evans body of work against VFL and AFL opponents in the second half of the season suggests very strongly that Austin and co made an astute decision in picking him up - as they did with leaving Liam McMahon to the Bombers.
I suspect that there’s also an element of last chance saloon and Franky is having a red hot crack at staying in the game.
19 disposals at 84%, seven contested possessions, three goals straight (should have been four!), 12 score involvements, five marks, five tackles and two clearances is a decent day at the office, against any opposition.
As you say Thry, his ball use and decision making has been very good and may be a consequence of his AFL experience at three clubs.
We’d be crazy not to extend his rookie contract.
The Professional List Manager and crew have us 5-6 games outside the top 8-9 and playing dead rubbers since midway through the season and have our No 1 ruckman and CHB more than likely leaving the club....keep up the good work Nick.

I'm not interested in your L's and W's. That's not the point in this case, the season was done. Looking ahead, our rise back up the ladder with come down to a much better attitude across the board and changes to our game plan. That's what I looked for since Voss was re-appointed, not whether we won or lost. That is what I saw and what has been missing all year. Not sure how hard that is to understand. You only saw we played Essendon etc, and looked no further. Glad others look at things deeper.
We came with the right attitude and right plan, that's what you can from it, not so much who we played. Something we haven't seen all year. Last 9 qtrs we have played good footy, starting with that scintillating last qtr against the Suns. Attitude is what I want to see, we can then work on the rest.
Or we play better against sides who are below us on the ladder.
Port was above us at the time and beat us by 50pts last time. The smart ones amongst us won't look at who we played but how we went about it. Better attitude and a better plan.
No, we don't really need small forwards who kick goals and set up scoring opportunities.
Playing against an U/18's team even you would look good Lods.
Last 9 qtrs have been good. Finally seen the right attitude. Evans finally found his feet at the club. Played great VFL footy and eventually carried over to the AFL. Was a tough job being a small forward at Carlton. Best ball user we have. Liked F.Young on the wing, got better each game. Used it well too. See why we took him ahead of McMahon now (said different a couple of weeks ago but now converted...lol). There'll be some changes but won't be those two.
We should last year in the last 2 H & A games you can go ok with 19 to 20 blokes out.
I wouldn't take much notice of the last 2 weeks which were like practice matches.
