Ladies Lounge / Re: AFLW 2025 Rd 11 Carlton vs GWS at Carlton
Carlton 12 - 9 - 81
GWS 5 - 5 - 35
We're up to 5th. Still, we do need to beat the Weagles.

Good to see Maddy Guerin come back to a bit of form: 24 possessions, 10 tackles, 5 clearances.
Dayna Finn: BOG: 30 possessions, 8 tackles, 8 clearances.
Lilly Goss: 22 possessions, 12 tackles and 1 goal.

Will need to win as all the sides below us down to 9th have games they should win.

Didn't come out switched on after the lightning break. We let them kick 2 goals, their only 2 goals. We lead 68-14. Prior to the delay we led 67-3.  Percentage will be very important getting into the 8.

Seriously! Our girls are as girls are as dumb as dog poo.

Should have got a goal but dropped a simple mark then they go up and get one from a dumb error from our defender. They've kicked 3 goals, 2 from charity donations from our defenders.

Not playing smart or using it well. Not kicking to our advantage at all. Can't believe we handballed straight to that St.Kilda girl in the goalsquare.

Anyway, we got a goal and just 2pts behind.

This is from the Match Report of Rowell's 20 possession/ 3 vote game.

Quote
Rowell’s big third quarter
Following a quiet fortnight against Sydney and Brisbane, and then a first half where he was thereabouts but not quite having his usual impact, Matt Rowell exploded in the third quarter to help separate the game. The former No.1 draft pick was at his ball-winning best, racking up nine disposals and helping the Suns go forward time after time. It wasn't just the touches, but the damage he was doing with them, kicking a brilliant goal off a step from 45m and then delivering one on a plate to Ben King moments later as Gold Coast kicked six goals to four.

Third quarter-fresh in the mind of the umpires-significantly affected the result.
I suspect Cripps had a few of those 3 vote games last year where he influenced the result although not dominant for four quarters.
Often Player of the Match in Cricket is often more about the how a player influences the result rather than the best player. A bowler may get 0/150 in the first innings but have a quick burst of 4 or 5 wickets in a spell running through top the top order, bringing about a collapse and victory for his team.

Nice bloke is Matt Rowell but the voting was mystifying as it was when Greg Williams was dudded and had 40 plus possessions  when Wanganeen won the medal.
Nas should have got three votes for his 34 possession 4 goal match winning game in Rnd20 I think it was and how Rowell got three votes in games where he got less than 20 possessions was hard to fathom.
I didnt care who won but the voting system has to change as the umpires get it way wrong too often imo.
But did you watch those games?

I saw someone post on fb earlier that he commentated the game of where nas got 2 and Viney got 3 - sure NAS won it for them in the final few mins but the commentator said Saints were putrid for 3/4’s and Viney was very very good for Melbourne.

Personally didn’t watch any of those games in full so nfi personally but you can have 40
Possessions and them
Be not as impactful as 20
Possessions that are.
NAS did get 34 possessions and was certainly the most influential when it came to winning the game. Viney actually was the one who gave away the 6-6-6 free that lost them the game. The reaction of Max Gawn when NAS only got 2 votes was gold.

Agree though that, theoretically, a Rowell 20 possession game could be more influential than another's 40 possession game. I didn't take notice of GC games as much to judge if that was the case, but I see your point. He could have had, for example, 10 tackles as well that created scoring chances or prevented the other side scoring. That would count as well.

Rowell is one of us.  Shaped by carlton.  Natural cripps successor.  Bring him over
Never gonna happen now.
Winner and runner-up were Carlton fans. Strange a Daicos grew up a Carlton fan but was best friends with Tom Silvagni, so he supported Carlton too.

Wouldn't that boost the midfield...haha.

An impressive winner, Matt Rowell.
Glad to see Daicos beaten again.

How did George Hewett only get 10 votes?
Jack Silvagni didn't get one.

I once thought that Rowell was a tad overrated … until I watched him closely.  He is a gun and a very worthy winner.

George missed out on votes because we lost more games than we won. Same with Harry.

Jack’s surname mustn’t carry much weight with the umpires.
Interestingly though, Cripps still polled very well in what was an average season for him. 19 is a pretty fair number.
