Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 16 2026 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs West Coast
No harmonica this week.

I'd love to know what Davies and Wright are thinking right about now.

You'd have to think we'd be favorites against Richmond. 7 in a row would be sensational.
The way it's going we'll be 2 games from 6th after this weekend unless Adelaide can pluck this one right of  the fire. I'll worry about 10th first though.

After Richmond we have 3 tough games in the run home against Hawthorn, Brissie and Freo, the rest against sides around us in the same position. Hawthorn has been ok lately but nothing great, and hoping by the time we get to Freo they may have peaked and gone over the edge. As long as we beat Richmond and go 8-8, I'd like to win 5 from the last 7, giving us 13 wins. Even 4 gives us 12.

But, as we know, this is Carlton, so only focussing on Richmond and best not get too far ahead of myself.

Cmon Paul, its West Coast.

2026 - 4 wins, 11 losses
2025 - 1 win, 22 losses
2024 - 5 wins, 18 losses
2023 - 3 wins, 20 losses
2022 - 2 wins, 20 losses

15 wins, 91 losses
14% win loss record over their past 106 games. Even Pagan managed a 25% win rate with us.

Oh they beat essendon did they? The team that has 1 win from their past 27 games? What an achievement.

Lets celebrate the win, but lets not overstate the opponent to make ourselves feel better.
We were poor for half a match. They have been poor for 5 years.
I think the Weagles aren't going to be the rabble they have been. They seem to be on the right track. That is why I am happy we managed to put the foot down when we did.
If we played the Weagles of, say, 2024 today, we'd have won by over 100 points, even without a Charlie Curnow kicking 10. They have been awful, but they are not any longer. Hopefully, we can see them stumble, rather than come on. That way, we might be able to convince Reid that being on the east coast is a better alternative (especially in a dark blue guernsey).
Yes, remember beating then 2nd last game in 2024 in Perth by 65pts with literally 19 blokes out of the side.

I am somewhat surprised at the lukewarm positivity on here. This is a big deal. Not many teams win 6 on the trot.

We monstered West Coast in very facet : in the air, ground ball, attack, pressure, effort, defence. We led the entire game. All the stats are significantly in our favour. They've been in close games in recent weeks and managed to jag a win against Essendon. I know despite their song, West Coast are not exactly flying high, but it's been several weeks since they lost by over 5 or 6 goals (in fact R7 against St Kilda).

Camarades, encore un effort !

Eagles had a decent 5 weeks leading to . Beat GWS, lost by a goal to Port, after beating them early in the year in Adelaide, lost to North by a point, beat them early in the year, and had a very close one against the Pies on Pendles record game. Of course, beat Essendon as we all do, as you said. Bar a couple of real super stinkers, they have been better than other years.

Nothing to trouble us though. 9 goal win that felt like 5 but should have been 15.

Jack Ison needs a spell IMO. Not moving well, seems to have lost confidence.

He seemed more instinctive in his earlier games but in the last couple he seems to be thinking too much and playing slower.
If he's play next week and we win he breaks Ryan Houlihan's record. 6-0 is the best start to a career a player has. Play as if we win Ison holds the record outright.

Vossy was the one who brought Hewett back into the side.
Vossy was the one who played Dean and Jagga from day 1.
Vossy was the one who brought in Wilson.
Vossy was the one who played Harry as 2nd ruck.

Vossy was the one who did 99% of what Fraser is getting credit for.

I've got no issue with Fraser and what he is doing....and what he did previously with the bullants etc.
But lets there is a lot of attempting to rewrite history going on.
When Fraser took over, we were ranked with the easiest (or 2nd easiest) draw coming up through the middle part of the season.
He has been good since he come on board, but right place and right time play a huge part in that.

There's also the integration of our VFL and AFL squads that Jordan Russell gave Vossy credit for in his interview last week.

Then there's the fact that the coach, whether it's Vossy or Fraser, doesn't select the team himself but is one voice, admittedly a loud one, on the match committee.

There's no doubt that Fraser is doing a great job but, as he and others freely admit, it's on the back of the foundations Vossy and the other members of the coaching panel built.

I hope that Fraser sticks to his guns and continues to rule himself out of the top job.  Another Teague Train debacle could be be terminal for players, supporters and the club.
We could look at Teague who was an interim that didn't work, or look at Ratten going back, that did work, going 0-7 tanking 7 games in his interim year. Not every circumstance is the same.

The difference Ive noticed is that they’re not second guessing themselves and
Crippa said post match if they make an error they dont dwell on it they just keep going.

I didnt pick them to win this one as that Bombers game was ugly - but if course rapt they did. Love Cow and Dean - agree re Ison maybe going back to VFL for a bit… just not getting to it, seems slightly off the pace. Loving Byrne too, ferocious tackling.
Neither did I. It's the only one I have wrong....lol.

5 in a row is some achievement.  I left Melbourne on may 30.

The club needs to start talking to my employer and funding my overseas adventures.

Last time I went, was 2023 in June....
I went OS in June 2024, I watched us flog Rich on my phone  in Rome in front of the Colosseum. We were 2 or 3rd that stage. The day I landed back in Melb we played Haw and got knocked out of the 8.
I'm the reverse. When I travel we get the sh it kicked out of us....lol.
