Collingwood would be deservedly starting as favorites, but not by much IMO. I think some in the AFL world would be spooked by the Hawthorn game, which is not unreasonable. I give us a slight chance, but we need 4 quarters of good footy and 18/23 contributors. And if it comes down to "taking our moments" hopefully we're good enough - the Pies have a few players who are good in that space.
They’ve taken their moments against us when it counts, same story for the last 5 games or so. We definitely owe them a 4 quarter performance, for our own sanity if nothing else.
Agree. We absolutely can beat Collingwood, the issue is mental not talent IMO. Play to win as previously mentioned, take our chances and we win. They aren't that good overall talent but they are seasoned and disciplined.
Those bad habits I saw sneaking in last week are amplified tonight, keep watching and count how many times you see two Carlton players watching the ball roll past them each waiting for the other to pick it up.
Fraser's first 5 or 6 weeks were different, but the honeymoon is over.
Agree LP. Too many sitting back waiting for someone else to do the hard work.
I'm confident Riley will do his job, especially if it's wet. He just needs to be a physical presence and assist the running players with shephards, blocks etc. nothing fancy. We can beat the Dawks if we bring the heat, but will need to be a 4 qtr effort with no passengers. Stating the obvious I know but you only have to look at how the Pies play and take down better credentialled teams - they do it with gang tackling and team pressure until their opponents crack.
I trust we will get competent umpires this week instead of the third stringers we had against the tigers.
Third stringers Prof? That’s remarkably generous of you!
One of the lowlights of that game was a boundary throw in that barely made it into the field of play and resulted in a free against Pitto for a “block”. Nankervis wouldn’t have got to the pill if Pitto had stepped aside and waved him through 🙄
Further to the umpiring debacle last week, did anyone notice how low a lot of the throw ups were. Barely cleared the rucks' heads. It was like they were umpiring an U11's game!
I thought Acres looked very lazy last week. So not surprised
I thought he was caught out a few times running to receive, when I made my post match comments I talked about some bad habits seeming to sneak back in, and he was one of the players I was thinking about.
We don't need a bloke Acres size roving packs looking for soft possessions, his first week back he was very good, and a key feature of the team over the last few weeks has been when you have to go you go, running around the traffic isn't.
OH was good in the VFL, so he's a no brainer as a swap. I'm a bit surprised one of the kids hasn't bene given a rest, but maybe Fraser accepts the Nthmond leg speed will trouble us, and that could be another reason Acres and OH swapped. OH isn't much faster but he is faster.
Blake Acres had a poor match last week IMO. He was one of 3 lowest rated players at half time (both teams). He improved in the second half, but.. Also, I'm not worried about Lynch this time. Remember the first time we fell apart in the 2nd half and there was little pressure on the Richmond ball carriers. That won't happen this time. Carlton by 30+
Agree, good win but needed a 4 qtr effort + percentage booster. Jack Ison needs a spell IMO. Not moving well, seems to have lost confidence. Blake Acres also poor. Harry Dean, what can you say. Kept Waterman goaless for the first time this year.
