Western Bulldogs v Carlton
7:20 PM, Saturday Jul 04, 2015
Etihad Stadium
Naturally hoping for 3 in a row.
Should be entertaining. I don't know why, but I see this as a somewhat even contest.
Dogs by 66 points
We can win this. A great test and finally a little hype surrounding one of our games.
The Bulldogs have caused us some trouble in the past. They run and carry the ball very well and fast. However they do turn the ball over often. This is where we need to pounce and make it hurt them on the scoreboard. I feel we might lose this in a close result. I will be very happy if we stay competitive in the important stats of effective tackles and apply maximum pressure from the first bounce, and for the entire 4 quarters.
It's worked so far.
As they say, if you're on to a good thing..............lol!
Easton Wood needs manning up and I have no idea who will and can play on Jake Stringer....
If we play with the same intent and intensity we should get our third win in a row.
The Bulldogs have struggled with their ruck combinations and we should have a clear advantage there. Our tall forwards will test their defence and our midfield should be at least their equal.
Our defence still has a makeshift feel to it without Jamison. Despite that, we're getting good run from our small and medium defenders.
Blues by 12 points :)
Surely MBB you are joking 66pts maybe 16pts
It's not what he thinks will happen, it's what he wants to happen. That way he can come on and troll the board with his pro Mick agenda. :P
No confident with this one... and the Dogs tend to trouble us.
Though, I think it could go to the line. Our tall timber should cover theirs.
In: Michael Jamison, Blaine Boekhorst, Blaine Johnson
Out: Andrew Carrazzo (Toe), Sam Docherty (Hamstring), Troy Menzel (Knee)
Emergencie: Liam Jones, Jason Tutt, Mark Whiley
Nah... Its worked the last 2 weeks.
He has a system.
Boyd out for the doggies
Would this be the first time two Blaines have played AFL?
It's good to have Jamison back but losing Docherty and Carrazzo is unfortunate :(
I see the Doggies have named Caleb Daniel just to rub our noses in it. He caused a lot of talk amongst us pre-draft and the Doggies ended up picking him up with the pick we gave them for Liam Jones.
At 164cm or whatever he is, he probably only comes up to Cripps knee caps !! :P
Interesting that Johnson is named on the ground. Ellard gets my vote for sub.
We are playing the blain game. :)
Caleb's draft profile from last year
Caleb Daniel is a special player. On ability he’s the best player in the draft crop, no player possesses close to the same natural talent. However, Daniel is one of the smallest players to play the game. It’s about the one thing that can make even the best drop down the draft boards. If drafted, Daniel will be the smallest player in the AFL. kid can play.
We'd be lucky if Liam Jones ends up half the player Caleb is.
Massive outs for us. Carrazzo was awesome last week and Docherty has been a rock down back. No Judd, Gibbs or Carrazzo is pretty much our entire midfield. If we could pull off a win here would be an amazing effort.
Some big outs and with Ellard, Johnson and Boekhorst in the same team we look a bit weak IMO...hope I am wrong and those three fire up but
I'm not so confident this week and reckon the Dogs will start short priced favourites.
Cripps should be in for another afternoon of close tagging and his education will continue..
Big test for Kruezer and Wood vs Minson...MK hasnt performed that well vs the physical ruckmen who have bulk but with two genuine rucks maybe we can wear the big Dog down. Bontempelli and Stringer look two difficult matchups, I presume White will get Stringer.....but its thin pickings if that doesnt work . Good to see Boyd out so maybe Stringer can get more attention..
Not too worried about Judd. Cripps has him covered. Not as elite, but far more than just serviceable. Gibbs in his current form and aggressive nature is a huge miss. Carrazzo the extractor is another. Docherty will leave the defencive 50 light. This is really looking like a potential loss. A win would be wonderful but a competitive close loss will be acceptable.
Is Boyd injured or dropped?
Looking forward to the Boekman tearing it up under the roof. Conditions suit.
Holman to possibly get a full game.
Nick Graham to get a good run in the middle against some quality young opposition.
Marc Murphy to make a statement as club captain.
I don't expect to win but I'd love to see us throw everything at it. I thought we were a little down last week so perhaps a little rebound?

Carrots and Doc are huge outs for us. Jamo is a big in. As for the others, well, they do have a chance to show they have what it takes.

I think our team was ready for Tom Boyd. I'm sorry he missed out.
Gee I hope Ellard is the sub and then not needed.
And good news that the sub rubbish will be abolished from next year. Stupid idea from the get go.
Roos, Buckley, Walsh and a few other coaches have been pushing the issue all season. I think the AFL will be under pressure to do something about the rule. Ellard might not get many more games. Too much competition for his place. He can be covered by a number of players. He tries hard but isn't as dangerous a player as he needs to be.
That's one of the knocks I have on Davey, his possessions just don't hurt the opposition enough and midfielders really need to impact games with their possessions and heat on the opposition when not in possession of the aggott - Davey's just too small to hurt with his defensive or offensive games.
Agree, Dogs a bit too strong for mine this week, but I'm not without some hope if we can maintain our level of effort. It'll certainly be interesting and I'll be there again cheering on the boys.
@ Baggers, Walsh, Holman, Cripps, Graham and Boekhorst are far more likely mids that will have the talent needed to hurt the other clubs on the scoreboard. Then you have Gibbs, Murphy, Carrazzo, Curnow and Thomas to eventually come back. Plus who we get in the future. Tutt and Whiley might not make it but Ellard will have to battle for a place in the future. I may have missed a few names which makes it even worse. Wish him the best though.
I'm sure it's been discussed before. Slug is a hard worker and a decent kick for goal. Can we use him as a fill in small defensive forward ?
Forget daisy.....I would delist him years end
Waste of money not good for culture
Accept the hit on our cap....
Oh Please please don't select Davey Ellard ever again….OMG he's probably the nicest guy and a hard tackler and was a MM pet…but he coughed it up 5+ times and missed 2-3 half chance goals which smalls have to take…Probably a great clubman but really a list clogger ley's see what Boekhorst and Holman have to offer with full game time
Yeah I missed the teams…2 Blaines in and Davey gets another run…plus Jamo Back
After watching Tommy Fields left foot 80m barrell from a kick off at Etihad in the NB's on Sunday…I'd bring him in as the kick-off specialist….what a bomb…..Nifty Nev his dad was a precision left foot drop punter for Bombers and Swans and racked 200 games up but I never saw him unleash a bomb like junior did Sunday…awesome….watch the U tube if u haven't seen it!!
Gags10, get them to see it here. ;)

Harsh... but unfortunately true
Time to put the bottle away, have a tall glass of water and a berocca ;) ;D
B, B, B, B, give you back that B, B, bounce. ;) Looks like its time for bed for all. ^-^
I doubt we can win this.
Docherty and Carratts are big outs and even though Menzel drifts in and out he's usually good for a goal or two, Jamo is a good defender but it's a few years since he gave us much run.
Footscray are going well and playing as a tight unit, I'll be happy with a four quarter effort but I'm not expecting a win.
Whatever the outcome we need to get games into the young fellas, so win or lose it's progress.
Ellard ruled out. Whiley in.
Ellard has a calf. Smith comes in as an emergency.
Speaking to a bulldogs supporting mate today, he reckons they have trailed off a little in the past couple of weeks.
I think our outs might make it a little tough.
i think whiley to slow based on games i ve seen at cramer st, lets see how goes against footscray please prove me wrong .
First in average tackles versus last. I don't hold out much hope of a a win, but I'd like to see our new-found aggression continue to arrest this kind of discrepancy. Not that I think the stats themselves mean everything - Port is still second on that point and we got over them.
Woohoo!! With any luck that calf will be hard to shake off for the rest of the season.
You're an absolute shocker PI2C ::)
He mightn't be the best player on our list but he's a long way off our worst . . . and he has a crack. That said, it is an indictment on our list management that he is still getting games.
I know, I feel really bad but fk it, it's ridiculous that he's still around and getting games ahead of promising youth.
I'm not sure that we have too many promising youth. If they're good enough, they should be selected before Davey but I want them to earn promotion, not have it gifted because they have potential.
Your point is valid though, he shouldn't be on our list.
I think that Whiley is replacing Ellard.
Well he was in ahead of Holman last week, who managed to do more in a quarter than Davey did all game!
yes, daisy needs a berocca...
with inside mids of bell graham cripps holman whiley....looks interesting

Sorry RE, couldn't resist that ................. ::)
Any we've got looks better than essenscum.
Rebuild is well under way right under our eyes.
The return of Jamo might free up White to play as a swingman or even in the midfield like he did against the tiggers in round 1.
If White is not needed in defence he should be playing in the magoos.
Really?
I know it was a while back now, but remember round 1 where he played as a midfielder/tagger? Played probably his best game for the club and got the kudos from almost everyone. Since then he has pretty much played where he has out of necessity. Now he might get the chance to play to his strengths and you wanna send him packing?
If he could repeat that performance that's fine but I don't think he has it in him. For example if he was to play forward I would rather give Watto another crack at it TBH.
So would I, but Watto's injured.
With Docherty out, White has a chance to play as a smaller, more attacking defender. It should suit him more than what he has been asked to do in more recent weeks.
Yes, it will be interesting to see if he is given a more attacking role. He lacks the run of Docherty but is better overhead, particularly if he isn't matched up with a taller opponent. A few contested marks in the midfield would be a positive.
Reckon White will have to take Stringer....
I agree. Gets his chance on a smaller player.
White stays jamison should stay in the magoos...
Time for another Berocca MF?
Nah....I think you should take one....
Thats like saying last start he was a winner, but i dont think he has it in him so lets not run him. ???
I think his versatility, and overall attitude, makes him an important best 22 player. He alone may not win you a game, but if there were more players like him, you would win more games.
Your golden child is injured, so lets give that a rest for a while.
Nah he's been named for the two hasn't he?
Either way, he is a very average footballer in my books and I've been watching him for a long time. Has played three decent games I can think of in six or seven years, the Martin game this year, kicked four against the lowly Saints last year and beat Hurley in a scum game back in 2011. That's where it ends.
:)) :)) :)) Classic, Cookiest One. Good laugh. :))
I agree, but he's probably as good as any alternatives.
We've won three games and it's no aberration, or down to a wild spate of injuries, on any given day we've got more than one or two average footballers in our senior side.
The Bulldogs are probably about where we'd like to be in around 12 months time.
As such they're a bit ahead of us in terms of development.
I'd love a win, but I'd be happy if we can get within 3 or 4 goals of them.
You could be right Lods, but that means that they have leapfrogged us or we went backwards ::)
I remain convinced that we are not as bad as our ladder position suggests and I reckon we'll get a win tonight.
Was at the open training session yesterday.
Kruezer and simmo were not there.
Was a very laid back session. A lot of joking around. Some
Goal kicking practice at the end of session in which oddly they spent time attempting Torps from angles at goal.
Most missed.
Woulda thought it's better to spend any spare time on proper goal kicking but anyway didn't look like a serious session.
Also saw simmo in casuals grabbing a coffee with White at the blues shop after training. Looked sick and not right to me.
Wouldn't be surprised if there is a late change tonight.
Go blues.
Is anyone named in the NB side this afternoon not playing?
footscrays list is years ahead of our not 12 months...
Which shows everyone his true colours.
Given that we took Jones and Tutt off their hands, I'd say that we did our bit to get their list up to ours or perhaps just a tad better.
Anyway, we'll see tonight :)
Keep talking us up...
We were bottom 2 weeks ago...
Stringer boyd bontempelli dalhause wallace Easton murphy....all good recruits
dogs took the hard decisions to lose hybrow cooney griffin ward...
we hang on to guns like watson and warnock
And we're not anymore ;)
....and twelve months down the track I expect we'll be knocking on the door, or just in the eight which is just about where you'll find the Bulldogs. ;D
Ok pencil it in ...I totally disagree
Sos advised the board ...4 to 5 years...until we r competitive. ..
That's a concern
I thought he was a better judge than that. ;D
Seriously though, what's competitive?....if you're talking flags..fair enough.
If you're talking 50/50 win loss that's very achievable with the side we've got
Out: Rowe
In: Tutt
Sub: Wile E Coyote
Assuming we start getting the draft right, which is a dangerous assumption IMO.
Certainly makes life cruisey for SOS!!
Seriously?
My optimism just evaporated :(
I find it very difficult to believe that SOS or anyone could say or think that. Ridiculous.
You can take two Berocca's at once you know... ;)
Me too just hoping we have a four quarter crack, anything can happen from there.
Not exactly a like for like swap.
How bad is Docs hammy? Hopefully he'll be only sitting out this one.
read the press mate...he wrote a report to the board
what planet r u on :o
the report apparently made assumptions of hit and miss..
u read the report and get back to me
Reported by Jon Ralph.
If thats what passes for cred good luck to you.
So guru...u think there was no report to the board?
I'll just leave you to it.
MR accuracy. ;D ;D
Keep enjoying your time at tc.... O0
Jamo was just about 2 best for us tonight after 2 months out .
You couldn't pick a nose. ;D
I will
Can you send me your copy :D
"Bulldogs years ahead of us" ? ::) ;D
They will just be making up numbers if they play like that at finals time.
We weren't very good last night....too many injuries before and during the game, but if we'd been just a little more composed in that second quarter they would have lost the game.
I was there...we wont win many more games this year
Composed? Our team has always lacked finish and polish....not good enough. ...the list needs a major cull....
Why?
Serious question.
If it's to financially support the club just donate the entrance fee each week.
If the players knew how you felt about the majority of them they probably wouldn't mind if you gave it a miss.
Why do you go?
ProboscisFleet, actually Principal LODS said HAD we been more composed we probably would have won, and he's right.
my point is that we are not composed when it comes to finishing...its systemic
stop trolling through my comments
That's not trolling...
Trolling's when you constantly, repetitively post negative comments that are designed to get a response from others. My question is genuine.
Why do you go to watch a group of players you seem to have no faith in.
Why watch a club that is 10 years away from being a genuine contender
You can't enjoy nights like last night...can you?
What do you get out of watching Carlton play.
Is it the social aspect?
Why dont u stop asking inane questions and suggest some solutions to the clubs poor position...
I reckon they are very pertinent questions ::)
As to solutions to the club's situation, the first action should be to remove the board and replace it with a more streamlined structure and with at least a third of the board members having a football background. An articulate, media-savvy president with a vision for the future wouldn't go astray either.
You constantly make statements with no facts behind it.
Whenever someone questions you on something, seeking clarification or access to what you have supposedly seen, you have a hissy fit.
Read what people write. They are not criticising you, they are asking you questions. You can either answer them or cut up rough about it. For some unknown reason, you refuse to answer the simplest questions asked of you.
If you want people to believe you, indulge them. Answer their questions.
I dont want people to believe me...u make your own assessment
Given your form your comment is a bit rich...
Ive made it clear we have the best president. ..and ceo...
The other 9 on the board should leave..including pratts and mathiesons....
Given my 'form'?
I, and many others, have made up our own assessments. You have been brainwashed and continue to make grandiose statements that simply don't hold up when questioned.
Again, you refuse to answer questions, just make unfounded statements like....
You have made nothing clear other than your belief that they are the best (hence brainwashed).
Your opinion and fact are certainly not the same thing.
What about them makes them the best president and ceo?
