Title: Rd 3: Carlton vs Gold Coast: In game Angst
Post by: crashlander on April 09, 2016, 09:52:25 am
Only a few hours to go, so I thought it would be best to get things ready.

I do have a positive feel about tonight, even though we are far from being favourites. However, I feel the angst from the first bounce to the final siren. Never count your chickens until they are Kentucky Fried and served with chips.

Enjoy.

Can you hide the post game thread from scrolling through the active topics bar?. Confuses me.

This is probably a very dumb question Crash, but why do we need to have three separate threads to cover one game? Wouldn't be easier and less work for you to have just one, to cover all aspects of a game? Just asking.

Nothing worse than coming home from a game and having to read in game posts given some of the stuff that's posted in there  ;)

It isn't a dumb question at all. It was one of the questions I had when I joined many years ago.
I presumed the reason was so that people didn't have to scroll through large threads to find relevant information. Also the tone of the threads were often quite different.
I took it to be a decision made in the past, a long time tradition.

Please feel free to ask the Sheik - as one of the originals, he would have been party to the decision.

Myself, I am quite comfortable with the idea. I scroll carefully as not to get the wrong thread.

Why o why do we guard space and just watch the opposition run around unchecked?
And did the whole team get the fumbles? Dropping the ball every where, miskicking it and missing hand passes is killing us.

Need to get the ball in more quickly. We have a key forward with some presence tonight, whether marking, contesting or smashing bodies. He's marking it so kick it to him, even if his kicking is scary. We'd at least be more direct.

Between disposal and picking wrong options it's face palm stuff.

Cripps isn't right. Either send him forward or take him off. Think someone said a corky.

Bolton has made a mistake tonight, they have played an unfit Cripps against a side that is full of run.

Buckley stinking it up, Tuohy stinking it up, both have burnt team-mates badly tonight looking for goal scoring glory. There is no way forward with glory hunters, they always bring you undone.

Kruezer and Philips not really providing anything around the ground......vs only one very average ruckman in Nicholls its not good enough.
I't wont happen but I'd drop Kruezer and play Gorringe or Wood...in fact Wood is probably a better competitive ruckman than all of them...

Weitering is the general down back.  Everyone defers to him.

Bolton's gameplan is great and we've killed the Gold Coasts run but our skills are simply not good enough.  The amount of no pressure turnovers is driving me crazy.

Love what Charlie Curnow brings.  Another good draft pick.  I've also liked Whiley's game though I've noted he's getting a shellacking on FB.  Rowe - will never be good enough.  And 2E did not do Bolt any favours asking for the ball.  He also blazed later in the quarter when he had men free.  Disgraceful.

Byrne struggling with the pace of the game, but he has a go and I like that.

Our good players don't do enough classy things to make up for the mistakes the foot soldiers make.
We need midfield class, speed and delivery.

We seriously look lost at times. No structure, no clue at times what we are doing, then when we do we stuff it up with a really poor turnover.

Not sure we can persist with both Kreuzer and Phillips playing. They may be winning the hit outs 29-19 tonight but neither is offering anything playing as a forward. Once Casboult pushes up the ground there is nothing to kick too.

If we could just stop fumbling the ball we could at least make it tight from here. Looks like they're down to 2 on the bench too

Time and again it's been shown Kreuzer is a way better player when he's our only ruckman with help from Casboult. works best for both of them. Every time Kreuzer has to share ruck duties he's 50% less effective. If he's our only ruck he inariably plays well

I'd suggest it's over for about 6 or 7.
Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer, Thomas, Simpson, Jamison, Rowe all need to a) retire or b)find a new club.

I've seen enough, our big men are the worst group I've ever seen; Kreuzer, Phillips, Rowe, Jamo... all useless.   Can't have a team without a spine, and we don't have one.

Jamo is going so badly that he is now stinking it up at HF...and stil lcan't get a kick.   I've supported Rowe through thick and thin but he is a deadest spud of the highest order - should have hospitalised that bloke running back for the mark.

Weitering and Docherty are our only AFL standard defenders.

Don't get me started on Boekhorst... how we overlooked Laverde for that cat is beyond comprehension, utterly staggering.

I'd suggest it's over for about 6 or 7.
Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer, Thomas, Simpson, Jamison, Rowe all need to a) retire or b)find a new club.

Reckon Murphy goes alright but I can see your point.

I won't go too hard on Simpson and Jamison as they have been great servants but their time is certainly nearing the end.

Can't see Murph going. The old guys in the group you mention should probably pull up stumps at seasons end. The rest really need to pull their socks up.

This is the sort of game i wanted to see. The reason is, it will show what Bolton is made of, how he galvanizes them for the game ahead.
The superlatives are nice, they're cute even - in the off season
Now i want to see how he shapes up being uncomfortable

That would free up 50% of the cap
Sos must delist and trade the old guard as fast as possible

Why do we bother with Bryce F########CKING Gibbs and Marc BULLSH#####T Murphy.

Both as useful as tits on a bull.

Between them and Thomas we're wasting half our salary cap. Get rid of all 3. "Reset" properly.

I would rather watch kids running around.

Murphy and Gibbs both MIA when we really needed them! Very ordinary efforts.

Kreuzer will probably get better but the rest you mention, yes.

Look forward to Plowman and Jaksch getting fit then we can start dropping some of those others you mentioned, as well as others you didn't.

Boekhorst I don't mind.

We were as putrid as you get tonight.

Amen. Add Kreuzer to that.

Pull their socks up?
When? At 32?
Ffs enough is enough.
They are mentally weak and will influence young players at the club as they were by the likes of nick Stevens.
None of them are leadership material, but guess what, they are in our leadership group.
Why shouldn't we move murphy on?
He is not worth the money. Let him play elsewhere and get a pick.
We need another 4 top 20 picks but we may get sued for fraud if someone trades a top 20 pick for any if them

Why do we stop at three quarter time every game?

Kreuzer is so horribly out of form it is sad.  Giving nothing after the ball up, and that is his main strength.  We need to drop Phillips, ruck Kreuzer (with relief from Rowe and/or Casboult) and play either another runner or Jaksch.

Can't wait to see Plowman - who apparently has a clue and Sumner, who has some pace - which we another thing we don't have.

I think Boekhorst's future might be dimming.....thought he was poor tonight in a non physical game that was played the way he should like it....kicked short, missed targets and
had no impact....Dylan Buckley is another under pressure...

Kruezer isnt up to it IMo..Nicholls is very average and MK did nothing all evening, ditto with Philips who had Hampson hands...

Why do we stop at three quarter time every game? ...............................

Noticed this as well.

FWIW, apart from the last quarter fades, I can definitely see more cohesion, more effort, more team than last season. But no more skill - anywhere.

Neither can I but then we have to play as a functional unit. The "team"aspect of out game is non-existent. Whatever the plan is we're not playing to it. As for skills you actually expect an easy handball to find the grass, that how bad it is.

Jamison is gone IMO and Rowe is also in his last year of tenure IMO....if we had other options then they would be dropped but Glass-McCasker is still too green to pair with Weitering....the latter is a gun and probably better than Cripps in terms of being a complete player...
