AFLW Rd 12: Carlton vs Brisbane in Brisbane

Saturday at 17:05 in Brisbane.
Not a great time slot, but that seems to be par for the course these days. All the time slots are designed for TV, not spectators.

We probably go in as favourites, and we must win to keep a decent spot in the 8. We could end up as high as 4th. Lose ... not so good.

Brisbane have been playing better in recent weeks and will be formidable.

There's plenty of permutations and what ifs on where we can finish on the ladder after this last round is played out.

But to cut through all the unlikelies....
We need to beat Brisbane by 1 point more than Gold Coast beat GWS.

Unfortunately, the other game is played after ours, so we have no real control over that.

We just need to win and win well, and then hope its a close game between the other 2, who play on Sunday.

A couple of changes this week, that don't really help us much.

B:   21 Harriet Cordner   14 Siofra O'Connell
HB:   8 Lily Baxter   36 Ciara Fitzgerald   7 Poppy Scholz
C:   11 Yasmin Duursma   4 Claudia Whitfort   17 Dayna Finn
HF:   19 Erone Fitzpatrick   55 Sophie McKay   25 Keeley Sherar
F:   35 Nell Morris-Dalton   23 Lila Keck
R:   2 Lauren Bella   10 Mimi Hill   5 Abbie McKay
Int:   1 Amelia Velardo   6 Gabriella Pound   26 Tayla McMillan   20 Lily Goss   3 Darcy Vescio
Em:   24 Brooke Vickers   13 Aisling Reidy   30 Kiara Bischa

We'll miss both Hendrie and Good, especially Good who is among the best rucks going around.
That Tara Bohanna couldn't get a game is worrying when we need a key forward.
Nice to see gab Pound back.
We don't look as balanced with 2 talls out.
Hopefully, we can still put it together, but we look vulnerable.

Not sure if we've given up on Poppy Scholz, but named in the backline.....as cover for Hendrie, sure, but thats when you bring in Bohanna. If we can't pick Tara for this game, have we seen the last of her in Navy Blue?

If the Cats beat the Dogs tonight, the task get a little easier. But it is up to us to prove we deserve to be there.

Phew!

Made hard work of that but winning the lead back was classy.

Comes down to GWS v Gold Coast tomorrow.

If we stay 4th we have the fun job of playing North Melbourne but that means a home final weeks 2 if that's how it works  out.

A really tough performance from the girls against a good opponent on their home deck. Really ground that one out.

Literally only a point or two in it!

Well done to the girls for finishing 4th, even with the few hiccups we've had on the way.

The girls need to work on their after the siren set shots.  While Darcy successfully ran the clock down, even a behind could have made the difference between 4th and 5th.  It would have been nice if they had nailed the torp, but a drop punt may have more chance of making the distance.

Thank you, GWS.

So, how do the AFLW finals work? Same as the AFLM? Does this mean we meet the Kangabies?
