I don't quite know how to feel after that. Winning is such a rare event nowadays. To have failed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory ... is it is sign of things to come, or just a false dawn?

[1] Will Hayes: what a first up performance! He has provided something the 2's have lacked all year: leadership and getting the ball at crucial times. 37 possessions and 7 tackles, says a lot, but 2 clearances says that he wasn't alone in standing up.
[2] Marc Pittonet: He had 3 times as many taps as the entire GWS team and took some crucial marks. I'd have had him on the bench for tonight, but ...
[3] Lord has been a reasonable pickup. He is light and not electric paced, but he puts his body in and gets the ball. 26 possessions, 6 clearances and 6 tackles suggests he has something to offer. He certainly doesn't turn the ball over as often as Binns does.
[4] David Cuningham: another who stepped up and impressed, getting through a full game. 29 possessions, 8 tackles and 6 clearances was very positive.
[5] Jesse Motlop: 17 possessions and 4 goals suggests that Motlop is getting some form, at last. He has x-factor and is now getting to where the ball is.
[6] Caleb Marchbank: a shadow of the guy who played so well in last year's finals. He isn't getting his hands on the ball, nor is he really stopping his opponent that much. He is really struggling.
The last time he came back through the 2's he got leather poisoning and had something like 15 marks per game. Today he had 2.
[7] Lewis Young, on the other hand, stood up today and got 23 disposals and 11 marks. He doe that a bit more often and he won't be under list pressure.
[8] Our underachievers generally underachieved again. 12 possessions from Moir wasn't dreadful, but we were hoping for more. Dome Akuei had 8 possessions, Lemmey had 10 possessions, Monahan had 6 and Mirkov had 5. Not quite sure what we're going to do, especially as guys like Hayes come and and perform straight away.
[9] Lachie Young continues to disappoint. He had 6 possessions today, which is less than Dom Akuei. Tom Phillips is not there at all. These are the guys we brought in to give our 2's some leadership and it just isn't happening. I doubt either will be there next year.
[10] Will White is a youngster who continues t impress me. He's a 20 year old from Warnambool and there is nothing of him, but he has a deadly left foot foot and he kicks goals. Of the VFL boys, he impresses most often. Worth a look? I think so.
[11] Good to see ned Cahill play a bit better too. He has been down of late. He is definitely one of our few consistent goal scorers.

Blacktown is a lovely looking ground, but, my God, it was empty! We get more people to little league games than turned out today!

Carroll wins the ball ok but his disposal can let him down, swings onto the left and just bangs the ball forward, I think Lord uses the ball better and is a better decision maker. Downside to Lord is his light frame for me, no doubting he attacks the ball ok but at senior level those bigger bodies are going to be tough for him abit like how Ollie Hollands finds it tough some weeks and gets pushed off the ball a lot.

Lord is 83kg, Ollie and Binns are both only 72kg.  That extra ten kegs is invaluable.

Fair enough...he doesnt look it and I see him pushed off the ball but he does attack the footy well so maybe he just needs more exposure to heavier bodies and senior training.

I'd have either of Cuningham or Motlop in the 1's ahead of Fantasia.

Motlop hasn't been performing up to scratch since his injury, but he has been slowly improving.
His game today probably puts a bit of pressure on Fantasia...and pressure for spots is not a bad thing. ;)

Agreed, but the small forward role in the vfl is different to the dmall forward rile in the afl.
Motlop is one of those that lofts his game when the players around him are better....which is to be expected when most of the time you are not a target

Motlop spent much of today as a midfielder, and I think that's ideal preparation for his return to the AFL where he's expected to run a great deal more.

Fantasia has been performing the Cottrell role - linking up with the wings and getting back to impact contests in defence - rather than playing as a small forward.  Now that Cotters is back ...  :-\

Agresta made it clear that our mid-season draft pick would be a long term prospect and it will be interesting to see how Lord goes with a full pre-season under his belt.  I think that he could be a point of difference to our other smaller midfielders.

Time will tell ...

Pleased to see the seconds have a win and finally get some reward for effort.  Hayes showing the commitment required to win games consistently.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

I had hopes for him, but he was a real failure. Not worth the money or the time.
Hayes has already done more in a single game.
