No.
Which is why i wasnt implying what shawny said i was implying.

There are a million and 1 ways to benefit from things, shawny assumed there was 1.

I listed a couple, but its just the tip of the iceberg.
Kickbacks are another.

I donate to you, you get my fashion label some shelf space in paris and milan.

I donate to you, you give me some inside info on stock tips.

.....get me a good real estate deal.

Rich helping the rich.
Not you, shawny and dodge.

Solely on that original donation mentioned there's no benefit.

Add in some tax deductions for travel, costs of living like hotels, airfares, car expenses, educational stuff for "research", other income tax breaks such as paying yourself via a contracted company based in the cayman Islands and then he tips into charity to help and comes out with the deals you mention all to look like a philanthropist.

Thats not to condemn him.  Good on him, probably costs him nothing and gives him the exact perks and public reputation, but its not that long ago that Lewis Hamilton had a very different reputation in the world.

Perhaps time and age have humbled him.  Declaring an outright position here is fraught with danger.  He might be an A1 bloke, or he could be a real tosser.  You wouldnt know for sure.

Good luck to him and all that support him.

Thryleon what are you on about!

My comments were in reply to Kruddler post saying if your going to lose money to the government via tax he might as well give it to a charity. I explained that paying to a charity instead of paying the is not equal so implying it is was incorrect

None of my posts discussed anything more but to clarify there is a vast difference.

While im not a big fan of LH his charity work and/or his reasoning why I never commented on - that was all the spin Kruddler added to not admit his first post was incorrect.

Anyhow thats it from me on the matter, I can see i wont convince him so wasting my time.

Thry - You guys are making an assumption that this donation is the only tax minimisation strategy.

 ???WTF not at all.

Mods - if it is easy, could you please create a new thread called Philanthropy and move everything from reply #324 to there.  It's gone off the rails.

This is why we but heads, your comprehension skills need some work.

People are going to lose the money one way or another.
Money, NOT THE SAME amount of Money, just Money.

IF its via tax, the government gets it and nobody cares.
IF its via donation, they look like good guys and get more opportunities to make more money.
You are spending money to make money.
Pay some 'goodwill' money and get opportunites to get more. For the record, it is NOT all about Money, but opportunities. Not least of which could be who you get to date by being a 'good guy who donates to charity'.

So why would you not choose to donate it?

So....jump up and down and cry foul and call me whatever name you wanna think of, but perhaps before you do that you look in the mirror and ask the question....did i make an incorrect assumption when i went off?
You know what they say about when you assume....

Other people get it. Let it go.
