The honours system is a joke.  No-one should get an award for doing their job.
It's still the Gulf of Mexico, Don Old!

The office of Australia’s Governor-General David Hurley refused to reveal who nominated Mr Andrews, saying the Council for the Order of Australia – an “independent” body of 19 people – gave the final recommendation on who the awards should go to.

The council’s Victorian representative is Department of Premier and Cabinet secretary Jeremi Moule, who was appointed to his $700,000-plus role by Mr Andrews.
So 1 vote out of 19!

The media and social media want there to be some conspiracy here, but that says more about the media and social media than it does about the panel that voted.

Gotta love the Scun's headlines....Andrews could cure cancer and he'd still be public enemy no 1 according to that rag.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

and certainly not for doing a bad job.
Well, according to what side of the fence you sit, that would be every single politician.

Firstly, let me state that i couldn't give a rats behind about these kind of awards.

Secondly, let me state that like most awards there always seem to be some kind of driving force/agenda behind them......which brings me back to point 1 above.

That being said, the vitriol directed at Dan Andrews now and previous still has me stuffed.
He is no saint. He made mistakes. Name me one person who hasn't. Name me one politician who hasn't made more mistakes than positives.
So those in glass houses and all that.

I've gone into bat for Andrews before and its off the back of a couple things.
1. Who would've/could've done better?
All throughout the world, similar people made similar mistakes, plenty a lot worse than his.

2. The mistakes that he did make, he made for, generally, the right reasons.
That is, his biggest fault was that he trusted people to do the right thing.
He trusted the security company to follow orders.
He trusted the public to stay the f*** home when they were told to.
He trusted the public to wear masks and social distance etc.
He trusted us.
.....and that was his biggest fault.

3. He fronted up every day to give us the latest up to date information.
I think it was over 100 days straight in front of the media before he took a day off. Honestly, how many other people would do that?
Trump played golf more than he was in office early in his tenure to show where his loyalties lay.
He worked harder than anyone else in a similar position.

So again, back to my first point. Couldn't care less about the award, if he got it, or someone else or whatever.

The way people lose their minds whenever his name is mentioned has me stuffed.
It appears he shot bambi, bankrolled Hitler and fingerbanged your mum all at once. Only then could some of this rage begin to make sense to me.

Record lockdown
Record debt
Wasted billions on not building roads and pretending to host the Commonwealth games.
Forced people to get vaccinated or lose their jobs.

1. Why was it record lockdown? Because people didn't listen
2. That goes hand in hand with #1.
3. a) Saved billions not building the tunnel that was underquoted (by 500%+) and signed off from the Libs.
3. b) Not sure what the deal is with Commonwealth games, but personally would be happy if they never ran again. I believe that was organised before Covid though, some things become more important.
4. Why did he have to force people? Because people didn't listen! People still went above and beyond to rort the system and find dodgy certificates to get around it.....rather than simply do it.

I had the uneviable task of telling someone that unless he got vaxed he couldn't work for us. Rather than be a dick about it, i spoke at great length with him about why he was against it. An hour or 2 later, i'd 'talked him down off the ledge' and he ended up getting vaxed without an issue. Once he understood the whole thing a bit better, he was ok.
The problem was all the 'fake news' that him and plenty like him got sucked into via youtube rabbit holes they disappeared down. They didn't understand it, but the conspiracy theorists 'made sense' to them so thats what they did.

I'm lucky enough that i have a good scientific education. I have Doctors, nurses, vetinarians and microbioligists and various other scientists with PHDs in my close knit friends and family group as well, so i have access to and understanding of a lot of information a lot of people simply cannot get for themselves.

So if thats all you've got....nothing has changed from my end.

I'm in much the same boat, plus through work I'm exposed to some very serious technical minds.
( People think everybody that is pro-vaccine is wants lockdowns, I can tell you nobody wants lockdowns, it's just that they understand the risks and costs so they accept lockdowns as a necessary evil. )

The bulk of complaints as I see them are basically disenchanted rock throwing, not a single viable political or technical alternative is being offered anywhere.

For example in retrospect, the technical results of the pandemic are in and we now know lockdowns work, despite some of the garbage reporting to the contrary which is again unfounded rock throwing. The current thinking is that if this happens again any time soon the lockdowns will be harder and faster than ever before, because now governments all over the globe have been exposed to the economic and human cost of going too soft.

Andrews ruined the health system in Victoria and left us with record debt and consistently lied about everything or had convenient memory loss.
Ask Nurses and Ambos what they think of Andrews efforts and the threats he made against them if they went to the media to talk about CoVid and health system issues .
It's just the constant lies, refusing to answer questions and lack of accountability and then bailing from the job when the full debt figures came out.
As a Politician he was brilliant as a Premier he was a fail...

So....like every other politician in the history of politics. As i said, he is not without his faults, he IS a politician so that right there is a fault.

As for 'bailing on the job'. People call for his head, call him a dictator when he refuses to step down.....then he gets called out for bailing on the job when he does step down. What did you want him to do?

As for the nursing/ambos.....think the blame there should be on Kennett prior to Andrews.
If anything, covid showed how bad everything was.....but he inherited that rather than caused it.
And i know plenty of nurses etc who will tell you the same.

EDIT: There is a legitimate reason for 'not going public' too. To limit the mass hysteria that can cause and the complete breakdown of society.

Yep, I've heard the very same, it seems the younger ones want to blame the recent government because that's all they have worked under, but the oldies know what it was like before and after Kennett when he basically dismantled huge chunks of the support systems that were in place.

Nobody is claiming things got better, but the getting worse part was happening a long time before Andrews or COVID, even if some do not wish to admit it.

I think if we'd had COVID under Kennett he'd have had the water cannons and rubber bullets out without even a blink!

If we think it was bad under Andrews, and possible worse under Kennett, we can all thank heaven and earth the Greens weren't in power!
