Something I don't like that is coming into AFL, the players executing the hip drop tackle, it's going to end in a lot of players with ankle and lower leg injuries. Too many occurrences for it to be accidental, they are training it.

Tackle an opponent around the waste, then curl up your legs to put your full weight into the opponents legs.

AFL must act in my opinion, it's an awful look.

Young just turned it over and probably killed the game.

Notice you keep hearing that phrase "cough up" for the blues, it's not an accident, and it happens too often at all levels.

A virtual rinse and repeat of yesterday. Never really looked like winning, but never blown out of the water. We manage to close the gap, and yet the Dogs do enough to keep us at arms length.

Umpire's just put the whistle away in the last 5 minutes. Probably missed about 3 frees in our half of the ground and a 50 that would have been a certain goal.

Got smashed around the ball by their senior players and apart from Hewett who did well there wasnt much to get excited about or think about selecting in the seniors.
Hayes was handy again and Carroll got some decent stats until injured but it was an ugly game like most you see or have seen at the Whitten Oval.

I think the next big task for Brian Cook and the football department is to bridge the gap between the AFL and VFL teams. I maintain my long held opinion that you can't be successful at the top level unless the seconds are also doing well.

Aka depth

You can't win footy matches when you have clear uncontested disposals missing targets 30m away, we have it happening at both levels.

Add to that, too many times our targets are caught behind, we don't attack the footy we prop waiting for it to arrive, saw the same yesterday, it's an invitation for the opposition.

Similar to AFL in so many ways. We're the team that "kept hanging around"

Despite hit out dominance, we get smashed in clearances, in the air, and i50. Familiar story.

A good game from most AFL players. George, Carroll (great delivery), Motlop, tall Durdin in particular. Vossy was no doubt taking notes!

Great news that Jack Martin gets through on managed minutes and looked comfortable running post game. Wouldn't be surprised if he's in next week. BTW I hope we don't get complacent v NM and take our lessons from the last 2 games.

Beaten by a narrow margin again.  This time 79-88 we blew it when we gave up 4 goals in time on in the 3rd to go from an 8 point lead to a 16 point deficit.  Hewett and Carroll got leather poisoning (and Hayes again) and Lewis Young and Sam Durdin both stood up well as key defenders.  If they drop Marchbank - and he should be dropped on last night's performance, but maybe they want to give him 2 in a row - then both are showing decent form.  Young has probably been better the last 2 weeks but poor b  efore that, Durdin has been more consistently decent.  Maybe if Weiters needs a break they could both come in.  Carroll was off for a while in the last - hopefully nothing to worry about but I don't see him pushing into the team anyway.  Orazio went off injured in Q1 and Jack Martin was activated.  Jack didn't do much but first game back after a long lay-off.  Other than Hewett, Hayes Carroll and Lewis Young no-one cracked 20 possessions.  Motlop only 13 possessions but did look dangerous when he got it and his 9 tackles was second only to Hewett's 10.  Binns and Lord were quieter than they have been, Moir busier (still only 13 possessions) but none seemed to be knocking the door down for selection in the ones.  Cuningham only 18 possessions and not as silky with them s usual.  My view is either Young or Durdin for Marchbank - maybe both if Weiters needs a rest or they decide against the Pitto/TDK combination.  Hewett or maybe Jack Carroll if we want more grunt in the middle - prefer Hewett but question is whether we need more one-paced mids, even one as good as Hewett.  Maybe Kennedy may need a spell and either of them could cover his midfield role but neither has his marking presence.  Williams was subbed off in the ones but unless they bring in Motlop or gamble on Jack Martin off only a short game back I don't know we have a like-for-like replacement.

One thing we don't lack is depth. We sit 2nd spending much of the season playing with so many missing.

Motlop did get get 10 of his touches in the 2nd half, Cunning ham got 11 in the 2nd half as well.

I think we need to elevate young to afl level.  He's the only one we have who is big enough and capable of actually stepping up and improving into the additional backman we need.

Marchy has more talent but he's a bit smaller and perennially broken.

Id probably gamble and pick Martin this week for Williams, he usually goes ok first up from a spell and then gets injured after a few games back. Motlop and Cuningham didnt do much to deserve a promotion and either did Young imo.
More inclined to stick with Marchbank after watching todays efforts from Young and Durdin ...the latter is steady but treacle slow and Nth are not a big team up forward other than Larkey and use Zurhaar as default KP Forward.
Carroll gets a bit of ball but reminds me of Zac Fisher in that his disposals dont do much damage, if I was bringing him in it would be to play on a wing in place of Ollie Hollands, wouldnt want him anywhere near LDU, Sheezel or Wardlaw etc as his defensive efforts are not great.
