How do you arrive at one defender short?  Our defensive rotation was Weitering, Young, McGovern, Cowan, Newman, Docherty and Saad and I'm sure Williams also spent time in defence.  I do think that Cincotta should have played, but in place of Kennedy who had no energy and hardly got out of a jog ... but that's with the benefit of hindsight.

That goes for De Koning too.  The club was concerned that he couldn't run out the game and that proved to be too conservative.  He would have had a crack from the opening bounce and that could have made a difference.

Docherty is a marvel but he was as rusty as all get out and probably shouldn't have played.  Again, Cincotta would have been a better bet.
Docherty is a midfielder and Williams plays as a forward. They actually used O.Hollands down back

Finally got through the replay. Took me three attempts. It was pretty ugly viewing. Just a few observations.
1. Cincotta should have played. We were one defender short and Cowan struggled. I think Cowan would have been better if he was the seventh defender. Another pre-season will see him improve.
2. Absolutely no run and carry in the first quarter and twenty minutes. When Carlton is struggling we go into our shells and we don't take on the game. Handball receives should be a kpi next season.
3. Not sure why everyone has been down on O.Hollands. He was serviceable in the first half and he shut down Zorko in the second. wasn't great but he was okay.
4. TDK should have started.
5. Initially I thought Cerra should not have played as I think he disrupted the midfield. However he did get better as the game went on. He needs to define role for himself.
6. William should not have played and Carrol should have been the sub.
7. Pittonet took a couple of marks and it makes him a better player. Needs to develop his marking.
8. If Carlton players are upset by the sledging and the trash talking of opposition players then don't be five goals down. If you are five goals up you won't hear a word from these clowns.
9. Hopefully with a new fitness guru we might be able to get a bit of continuity with the team.
10. Binns, Lord, Wilson, Lemmey and Moir all need to be given plenty of opportunities next year.
11. Docherty is a marvel.

Was somewhere where I couldn't watch the game. Checking the scores gave me little incentive to find some place where I could. Watched the last twenty minutes where Carlton took off every time they had the ball and I was left wondering why we don't do this all the time. Cincotta and TDK should have been in the starting twenty-two, Durdin and Fantasia should not have. Voss needs to change his coaching philosophy. He needs to believe in the talent and he needs to unleash the talent and stop picking names and unbalanced sides.

Ladies Lounge / Re: AFLW 2024 Rd 1: Carlton vs Hawthorn
Hawthorn were too good. They looked a pretty good team. I thought we were better than last season in the way we played and looked a little stronger over the ball. Hopefully we can improve as the season progresses.

Kemp has demonstrated he is a forward. Why would you move him into defence? Martin is not physically reliable, why would you play him? Since Young has played we have kept WCE to four goals and St.Kilda to eleven, we have struggled against tall forwards all year, why would you not play him. McGovern is always a worry physically and Young can take the centre square rucking duties when required.
I think Moir, Lord, Binns and Owies won't play, hopefully McKay,  McGovern, Curnow and Williams will play. Cerra, Docherty, Martin and TDK would have to demonstrate they can get through a game. Boyd won't be ready for a couple of weeks I believe.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 24 2024 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs St, Kilda
Paul P, I think you have missed my point. I am not talking about manic intensity I am talking about not giving up and trying to play four quarters. There are four games this year where we have exhibited these traits, Round 1 when Brisbane blew us out of the water and we lost Docherty in the first half but we kept fighting, the Geelong game, the WCE game where we took a half arsed side over there and won, and Sunday's game where we took St.Kilda to the last kick. Don't give up, do your best and don't stop trying and don't worry about the result.

I have been going to the football since 1963. That was one of the best efforts by a Carlton team in 62 years of watching footy. If this team could turn up every week and play out every game like they did yesterday then there would be few problems. The Club's culture for the past 25 years is the team picks and chooses when they are going to have a go. Yesterday they chose to have a go.
I believe we have a very strong list. Moir, Binns and Lord showed how deep we can go the question is why the MC didn't use a player like Binns earlier. There has been times when O.Hollands has struggled this year but giving him a role down back has freed him up and Binns has shown he is ready for AFL football. If you don't give players like Lemmey, Wilson and Akuei a chance in the big show you will never know if they can dance. VFL football is not always a good indicator as to how players will go in the AFL. Also we can concentrate on what players can't do like Young, Motlop and Durdin and miss what they can actually do. These are things Voss should think about.
We have the foundations of a very good team. Congratulations to Silvagni for that. We also have a lot of depth and young players coming through. Congratulations to Austin for that.
Once again we have failed to make top four when we should have. With Curnow, McKay, McGovern, Williams and TDK rested and coming available we can have a real crack and other than Docherty returning I would only consider any of the others being available as helping with depth.
Big shout out to Pittonett and Fantasia for their games,  Walsh played better and it was clear players like Saad, Acres, Kennedy and Durdin were playing through injury. A week's rest should do wonders.
