So last year we were a basket case, made heaps of changes, lost the first four(?) games this year, had a streak where we won a few - some wins were very ugly - all of a sudden finals were being talked about, the last 2-3 weeks have been back to the first four game standard and now we're talking honeymoons being over?
This to me says the worst that could have happened is to win those games, as expectation changed, a lot. The reality is that the situation that we were in at the start of the year is still that and we need to ensure we don't get in front of ourselves. There are still many issues with the list and they will take time to sort out. People want to see the kids given a chance in the seniors, but don't want to gift games - typically you get one or the other.
The tougher thing about being a supporter is that you don't know what is actually happening behind the scenes - what the coaches are looking for in players and their roles. This could explain why some get a game while others don't.
I think we will get beaten by a lot this week, which is probably what we would have said at the start of the year. It doesn't mean that improvement hasn't been made - there have been significant steps taken, but it is where our list/talent is.
I agree DJC. Stop the nasty politics, give us a vision for the country, work with everyone in Parliament, work for the good of the country in a fair and equitable way and do what you say you're going to do.
Until this happens, there will be no stability and the minors will get in and make everything harder.
Lack of stability and trust in politics worsens the public outlook and confidence. Don't stuff us around and we are more likely to vote for you.
Only just realized it is Gibbs' 200th. I know he has many detractors, but wish him all the best and I hope that the club lifts and wins for him in his milestone game.
I think its great. I used to hate watching women's cricket, but the standard is getting much better and don't mind having it on now. I haven't seen any women's footy, but look forward to its development and growth.
Watching on TV, so don't get to see play develop, it appeared that at least we didn't just get the ball and kick to to 1 on 3 or 4 in our forward half like we used to (apart from the first 10 minutes when the ball was exclusively in their forward line).
Disappointing, yes, but we haven't had a whole lot to complain about recently.
For a long time we've relied on too few and if they didn't play well we would either get thumped or simply lose games that we possibly should have won.
I couldn't care less that Gibbs wasn't as good today, because it didn't matter. Others picked up the slack and we won easily, although packed up and went home a bit early - would have been nice to have a 10 goal win.
After Robbo's effort on Cas, followed by Cas' retaliation, I thought the last 5 minutes could get quite messy. While the retaliation was undisciplined, I thought it was great to see a big unit put physical pressure on.
Love how we were relentless all day. Players must get a lot of confidence from being allowed to make mistakes as long as they follow up and don't drop their heads.
Early 1AW seemed to give a spray to a bad kick that should have gone to him, but that seemed to be all. Several Tuohy skill errors were just followed up with second and third efforts. This was replicated all day.
We used to win milestone games all the time.. Then we just didn't - maybe starting with SOS or Bradley 250th/300th. It is so great to see us win for Simpson, Keh? along with the attached emotion and sheer joy. Surely there can't be a Carlton supporter that doesn't at least like him.
Got to watch it after the event. Awesome team game.
I did get a bit confused by Danny Frawley at one stage calling Simpson our wicketkeeper (I think he to where he was on the ground). Worse was when he tried to explain why.
Great to see Kreuzer run round all day. I know people will correct me if I'm wrong, but Madden needed to ruck all day and struggled a bit if Matty Allan had too much time running around. Madden retired, Allan comes good and struggles when Porter? had too much ruck. There are other examples around other clubs as well, I'm sure - some of the big fellows just need to go and go and go to work and they love it. Sauce was another - he was coming good when he had his chance and then saw a better opporutnity elsewhere.
I hope to see less of the two ruckman and more Kreuze.
Compare the first 4 games against last year. Last year we were rubbish with not much to look forward to. This year at least there seems to be endeavour and a few youngsters coming on (to be simplistic about it all.
This time last year we would have lost by 12 goals after being down by 50 points and didn't have many players to talk positively about.
