Simon Whites last quarter... Wow! I've been a fan but we will be better when he moves on... But his last quarter was so amazing. Take a bow mate...
Gibbs running up to him both spent shows the spirit in this side.
Bolton is a genius.
Absolutely loved that - it was the sort of thing you see Hodge or Jonno Brown do - real Captains effort to get over to him and let him know how much his extra effort meant
How well did Rowe play when Casboult's role was entrusted upon him. Back in the role we originally recruited him for.
At one stage in the last, I thought we had Wayne Carey at CHF....... Rowe was clunking marks, crashing packs, kicking straight, marshalling the forward line........ then 20 secs later he was in the ruck, doing the same thing!!!!......... There is NO way I saw that coming!! At the start of the 3rd Q, we looked flat and I thought we were cooked - then Rowe and Jones start their Dermie and Dunstall impersonations, for 25 minutes, and we had a fully functioning forward line for the first time since Fev left.
Turned to a mate, with about 5 mins to go, to ask him to check online, how much Rowe was paying for the Coleman!!!!
Plowman - 21 going 22. Will be a gun. Can play small and tall. #3 in his draft year. Looks shorter than 193cm but who cares! Sumner - 22 going 23. injury riddled career thus far. Will get fitter and faster as he plays more. Has footy smarts and a good finisher. #10 in his draft (a Sandy lad) Lamb - 23 going 24 - taken by Swans back when. Goal sneak, who finds the pill - could have kicked 4 yesterday. Phillips - 24 going 25 - injured but as they say, the big guys take longer. Can take a contested grab and mobile around the ground. Jaksch - 21 (only) going on 22. 196cm KPP swingman. Everyone seems frustrated with this lad. not sure why, still very young and needs to bulk up a bit (but then a guy like Dustin Fletcher was never 'bulky'). Hopefully will play seniors this weekend with the Bolt and Weitering sidelined.
Plowman and Sumner didnt have pre-seasons, either. With a pre-season under their belt, they can step it up another notch, next year
I have posted before, if we can come away with a solid back half after year 1 of a rebuild we're doing very well.
Docherty, Weitering, Plowman and Byrne. That's a 10 year backline, we need to add a lockdown small defender and another big and we have a group that will grow together.
With the forward line, they are mostly speculative - Curnow, McKay and Silvagni could be anything or nothing, add in Boekhurst as a HFF/Wing and we have building blocks. Again need another big and two small forwards, and this draft seems to be full of small forwards with pace who can pinch hit in the midfield.
Mids is where we need the most help, quality ball users with speed and grunt x 4, cause they're soooo easy to get
Hogg Silvagni Mckay Sexton Dean Christou
XXX XXXX Byrne Docherty Weitering Plowman
That '95 back 6 played together for seemingly forever, never got hurt and were the major strength of that team. if we could just add a couple more (or manufacture one, in the case of a good BP), then the back 6 is starting to look verry similar........... great signs!!!
Treloar is a jet. Ed beat him today but Treloar will get better.
I thought he was pretty good, quick and clean with it. Just only runs one way, that's all. But he ain't Robinson Crusoe there - geez those pies mids love to take off at just a hint of a teammate winning the pill.... Great to beat the front running fks
It's only a little thing but have you noticed how we've taken on the Hawthorn habit of cribbing half a step over the mark but pointing in an exaggerated manner to the notional spot to fool the umps. Go Bolts! Go!
Love this!! It always used to p me off to see the Hawks do it, and our guys would be "is this ok? How about I take 2 steps back, 3 maybe?". As you said "little things" but they all add up
Whadaya know - a holding the ball and a 50.... Starting to even it up once the horse has well and truly bolted... Make that stats sheet look a bit more palatable
It's simple. The hawks are flooding the area in front of us. Doing the "West Coast Web" which is the new "Clarkos Cluster". We either kick to a 50-50 at best, a 3-1 at worst, or try and run through them british bulldogs style and hope for the best. OR We keep possession. The only way to do that is to go sideways/backwards which if done right and quick enough, allows you to attack down the other side of the ground.
Yeah, and they are pretty f'n good at it. When they show that down the ground footage from behind the goals, all you see are Hawks jumpers swarming in the 50ms in front of the ball carrier. Nowhere to go - even freo and swans found it hard... We ain't freo or Syd
A fully fit Gibbs, Thomas, carrots, walker, graham and yarran (assuming he's not fit) would help the mid field. But it still doesn't help up forward - what the f do we do to fix that. Hendo is doing stuff all, but if he goes, we will have less than nothing up there
We are so inexperienced but FMD how the screw do they get 21-9 free kicks? Seriously?! No I am being quite serious - the CFC needs to stand up ffs and ask for at least a level playing field.
Not to mention; - the tunnelling in the marking contest - the 6 meter kicks that are paid marks - the cribbing the mark - the non-holding the balls - the sniping off the ball
That dont get paid against hawthorn. They play unsociable football, yet that's the free count?
Ohhhh Cyril, what a tackle.... Only ripped part of his head off... This is a joke. We know they are a super team, but do they really need the extra 3 on the field??
That umpire will be in the 2s next week - can't give a free against Gibson like that! Almost as bad as giving one against hodge. Made up for it with 2 in a row to hawthorn, straight after...,
