Robert Heatley Stand / Re: RD 3 : Carlton VS Essendon (After Siren Shrieking)
At the 10 minute mark of the 1st quarter I noticed 4 players from cheatsfc.com directing teammates to pick up their man and/or move to set positions.

If I could have taken a photo it would have frozen the moment - four ... FOUR men in red and black firmly but calmly beseeching others to follow (to my mind) preset instructions.  Two of them were Goddard and Chapman.

Would be nice to have that sort of leadership.

11 games last year we were 15 points up or more and conceded 5 or more goals on the run.

Nothing has changed.

This is the most poignant and relevant comment in this whole post-mortem.

It goes beyond last year - I would say it's been a "feature" since 2009 (before that we seldom got 15 points in front). I've asked before if anyone can tell me why.

I really don't buy into the "not playing for the jumper", or ... "it's between the ears" type excuses which don't stand up to any empirical (i.e. provable) examination.

Purely and simply, we let teams off the hook time and time again.  I swear, the opposition just seems to know they can cruise against us - that we'll inevitably go to sleep, and, when we do, BAM!, a few intense gut busting efforts during pre-planned set plays and it's pretty much all over.

Good teams do not allow this to happen.  We are not a good team.  I think I've just answered my own question and it depresses the hell out of me.

It was 21 years between 1947 and 1968.  Another record drought coming up except this time we can't blame carbon emissions.

We are the worst field kicking side in the AFL bar none, it wouldn't matter who coached us because we just don't have the skill.
The endeavour is fine, but we don't have the cattle.

I have been saying that for two years and nobody believed me.

You cannot go season after season smashing teams in the midfield clearances and barely cwinning half your games unless there is something very, very wrong. Our disposal is the thing that is very, very, wrong.

There are VFL teams superior to our AFL side when it comes to ball use!

No argument from me. Our kicking has been atrocious for years. Terrible indictment on the recruiting staff that we've ended up with so many players who can't kick - in a game called FOOTball.

First year in a long time I have zero expectations for this side.   Same crap different bucket.   A lot of good football.   Concede goals on will.

Lucky I no longer give a stuff.   Port are average.   They made us look second rate.

I think we are all becoming bored with this club & team, it is the same stuff every year, nothing changes. 1995 seems like a lifetime ago now.

Yep. Five years ago I never for one second hesitated when buying my membership.
Since then it's been 90% ... 80% ... etc., until this year I tossed a coin.

Stupid Queen cost me nearly $1,000.

McVeigh with 20 possessions in a quarter!?!?  In a final?!?!

Not sure whether to laugh or cry about that.  How did that happen?

It is beyond me how teams like the Swans can have a spare man (or two) down back yet, when they surge forward, all you can see is red and white.  Actually, I do know how it happens - it's called running.

When does pre-season start?

In reality the Judd deal crippled the club, but I would do it again in a heart beat.

Yep, in retrospect, I have to agree with you.  It's been a privilege having him in the team and watching him play but it seems the flowchart diagram on the whiteboard in the board room was:

a. get Judd
b. win Premiership
c. pat eachother on the back

Think there were a few steps missing between 'a' and 'b'.

One thing MM has to stop is those goals scored against inside the last 30 seconds or so - was it Bolton who dribbled one through with 2 secs left on the clock?  They crape me to tears because you just KNOW we're susceptible.  No composure/leadership

Little did those people know that calling us the "Bradbury Blues" could be so apt.

I just wanted to see a game of footy - not ice skating.  I know the conditions were the same for both teams but you could see navy blue players slipping over in the periphery of almost every frame.

What a horrible year it's been for the AFL.  Two teams in Sydney but STILL no suitable ground. Bl00dy pathetic.

And yeah, let the clean out begin.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: ELIMINATION FINAL : Ninth Beats Ninthmond (Ha Ha Ha Ending)
Just want to pay tribute to 2 players who weren't world beaters yesterday but whose attitude, I'm sure, played a HUGE part in the win.

1. K. Simpson
2. M. Kreuzer

I have lambasted both (privately and publicly) this year - especially Simmo during the early part of this season, but his desperation and sheer g&d leading up to the finals must have SURELY been shoved under the noses of the rest of the team.

Plus, something tells me the message to Warnock has been that he needs to take a leaf out of Krooz's playbook - throw his weight around, go in hard after the ruck contest and win the ball himself if it's there for the taking.

For me, a couple of examples of how sheer spirit and attitude can be infectious.

Well, the umps had to spoil at least one of the 4 finals games.
Being human, that's about their average. Typical that it was our game/chance.

I see we've had the "Luke Hodge Memorial" incorrect disposal decision. And ... FMD if Judd doesn't spend 80 minutes of every game with someone holding on off the ball yet someone grabs Cotchin and it's 50.

Before today they have had 13 50 metre penalties all year and they just received 3 for 3 goals.

Am relaxing now. Low expectations have been reached.
