It was a week or so before the start of the season. I was genuinely surprised at how tall he was, but equally concerned at how skinny he was. Quote Selected

My son in law pointed out Cameron Wood to me when he was at Collingwood and I couldn't believe that he was an AFL footballer. My son was being fitted for a suit when Hamish McIntosh came in for a fitting. My son, who is officially a centimetre or two shorter than McIntosh, made him look quite small.A couple of seasons back, most players tried to put on a few kgs but they have all shed that weight now. If I remember correctly, Levi was well over 100kg but has now dropped to 99kg. Quote Selected

Re: VFL Rd 4: Northern Blues vs. Frankston on Sunday Reply #51 – May 12, 2015, 04:22:03 pm It's always been the case. I remember standing next to Scott Burns at Colombo's Pizza House when he was still playing and he was quite runtish. He looked like a tank on field as well. Quote Selected

The key thing that keeps coming up is that he knows how to keep things simple. Keep his instructions on the things that count the most. Along with he has a very good way of getting his point across, and making his instructions understood. He doesn't confuse young players as he doesn't make a process appear complicated. He also knows how to use his "I mean business voice" when needed. I haven't heard him address players myself,, but my friends have said that if he was their coach they would do what ever it takes to see his exact instructions are followed. Isn't that something we could use at our senior club at the moment. Quote Selected

Re: VFL Rd 4: Northern Blues vs. Frankston on Sunday Reply #57 – May 13, 2015, 10:43:31 am Keeping it simple must be the key to good coaching. Out there in the heat of battle at AFL level, trying to remember too many instructions is probably futile with opposition pressure often at very intense levels. Thinking time would be minimal and often instincts take over, as they do in real battles.Simple instructions without too many options or need to think too deeply would be the most effective for all but the most gifted players. I remember thinking the same thing. Not a common occurrence. Kreuze second goal - the big grab was a cracker. Makes me nervous that they'll want to play him as a permanent forward though. Which has been tried - and failed. Quote Selected
