Jim park Voting: Round 19: Carlton vs Collingwood

It wasn't a great game, but it was an improvement over what we have been producing. It doesn't say much for Collingwood either, that they can only put us away by 3 goals when we had so little talent on the park. Nichevo.

Remember:
[1] At least 3 players need to get a mention.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player.
[3] Give a rating of team performance. It can be anywhere from A+ to F.
[4] Votes must add up to 15.

We were much better than we have been, but our skills were ordinary, our disposal and decision making poor and far too much was left to far too few. We lack heart and desire, although not as much as we did in the last days of the Malthouse regime.
Once upon a time we used to strange opposition stars into submission. Now we play them into form.

Votes:
[3.5]   Murphy
[3.5]   Cripps
[2]   Simpson
[1]   Kreuzer
[1]   Everitt
[1]   Carrazzo
[1]   Bell
[0.5]   Curnow
[0.5]   Jamison
[0.5]   Boekhorst
[0.5]   Buckley

Explanations:
[3.5]   Murphy:   Brilliant. A lot more damaging than any of the Collingwood mids. They simply couldn’t stop him.
[3.5]   Cripps:   Did nothing in the 1st quarter, but was brilliant thereafter. He had 14 clearances and was excellent.
[2]   Simpson:   A very strong game from Simmo, beating his opponents and providing a huge amount of drive.
[1]   Kreuzer:   Much better as a ruckman this week, but he did die out of the game.
[1]   Everitt:   The gap between his best and worse was again on display today. He did some brilliant things, and kicked goals. But he does not tackle and chase as he could.
[1]   Carrazzo:   Solid, especially in the clinches.
[1]   Bell:   Tommy had plenty of chances early, but couldn’t convert them. He was quieter later, but his disposal was cleaner.
[0.5]   Curnow:   Solid.
[0.5]   Jamison:   An excellent job in defence.
[0.5]   Boekhorst:   Very good early and also in the last quarter, but disappeared in the middle of the game.
[0.5]   Buckley:   Did a pretty good job on the whole.

Honourable Mentions:
Casboult:   Beat his man pointless, but just didn’t get into the play enough. He took a couple of great marks and kicked nicely, but less than10 possessions in not enough.
Henderson:   Had some nice periods and took a couple of excellent marks, but just didn’t do enough.
Docherty:   Doc was terrible early and was thrashed by Fasolo, but he lifted his game a lot and ended up quite solid.
Whiley:   Not bad when he came on. Probably his most impressive effort.
Rowe:   Had some good periods, but is seriously lacking confidence at the moment.

Other comments:
Wood needs to go back to the VFL for a while. He really struggled to make a contribution today. He needs to get some form back.
Smith is so far off the ace at the moment that I doubt he has a future. He struggled to keep close to his man, he fumbled on almost every possession and turned the ball over. Collingwood fans were hoping he would get the ball. He isn’t ready yet.
Tuohy had his worst game for quite a while: he took on too many tackles and got caught too often.
Hendo needs to be in defence, where he can take some of those big marks and get his confidence back.

The only thing in this world worth more than a hill of beans is the Carlton Football Club.

“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball
