He essentially has control of the three branches of government at the moment.
Legislative, Executive and Judicial.
There are no checks and balances on him and he pretty much can do what he wants.
The mid-terms are still a year away so that situation isn't going to change in the short term.
He may even accelerate some of his more outlandish ideas ahead of those elections.

The problem is that the opposition is about as effective as the LNP at the moment. and there are no guarantees the numbers in the House and Senate will change enough to curtail him.

Zohran Mamdani has won the Big Apple Mayoral election despite Taco actively campaigning against him and threatening to cut funding if he won.

New Yorkers really can't stand Taco so it's not a huge surprise.

Mamdani has taken Trump on.
It will be interesting to see how Trump reacts.
Democrats did quite well in a number of elections.

Mamdani is a pretty interesting counter to Trump.
He can never be President.
He was born in Uganda
His parents are Indian
He is a Muslim
Despite being labelled a "radical" and a "communist" by some of his opponents he is more moderate with centre-left leanings, and advocates for things like affordable housing and taxation reform in a Robin Hood style (Tax the rich, relief for the less well off).
He's a strong critcic of Israel and their activities in Gaza, but has also condemned Hamas's action on October 7th.
He's strong on issues like Climate action and LGBTQ rights

In short he's a Bizarro Trump.

Mamdani calls himself a "democrative socialist" and Taco calls him a communist but, as you say Lods, he is a centre-left moderate by international standards.

One thing he isn't is scared of Taco, and there's a growing posse of like-minded folk including a trickle from the GOP.

Every time RedTrump greases his own palm he hurts people on all sides of politics, nobody is safe or immune, whether you are his neighbour or someone on the opposite side of the globe.

There is an inevitability about the cumulative effects of his behaviour.

The only thing that is certain, if you are not RedTrump you are or will eventually be collateral damage.

In my own circle I have friends and family that are bureaucrats or politicians who work in areas like health, finance, transport or infrastructure, for work I have to attend mining, military or industrial conferences, the feeling of lost security as you enter offices, buildings and conference centres is palpable even for passing pedestrians!

So at school we were always taught bullies target the weak and / or defenceless.

Do we really think the people of Venezuela are a threat to the USA?

I read recently that more than 80% of the drugs entering the USA through Sth America are likely to originate in China, but best strike fear and trepidation into the pitstop on the halfway line.

It’s political theatre. The government’s own documentation states that most Fentanyl comes from Mexico. Billions have been spent on the “war on drugs” for around 50 years, and it’s barely made a dent. Blowing up a few defenceless Venezuelan fishermen should make a real difference.

They want regime change. That’s all there is to it.

It’s really quite a remarkable thing to watch the self destruction of an empire in real time.

Taco’s slurred, incomprehensible Veterans’ Day speech was par for the course.  Rather than commemorating the veterans, he’s going to change the name to Victory Day to align with Russia.

Then there’s his claim that USA “won” the First and Second World Wars and every other “important war”.

The US came into WW1 in April 1917 and contributed 4M troops.  The British Empire and France each committed 7.5M troops and the Russians committed 15.8M.  I guess if “winning” the war is industrialists and investors making profits then Taco could be correct.

Obviously the USA came in late again in WW2 but made a significant contribution. Again, “winning” WW2 would be measured in terms of US profits and territorial gains.

Then there’s the other wars that the US didn’t “win”; Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan.

For a bloke who faked bone spurs to avoid being drafted, Taco certainly talks a good conflict 🙄

I listened to some interesting philosophy talk the other day that summarised RedTrump's appeal as a manifestation of self harm. Dissaffected individuals attracted to RedTrump's demeaning ways because it hurts society. So in someway supporting RedTrump is striking out at those around them who at least appear happier, unhappy people seeing those around them dragged down into the mire. If they can't be happy then everybody must suffer, even if they also suffer far more than before.

It's a sad state of affairs if the MAGA crew can't see any happiness in the future to the extreme point they have become sadistic.

Perhaps this sort of explains why MAGA appears indifferent to RedTrump's corruption, but I would think that state of affairs cannot last!

They also made a comment regarding RedTrump's recent round of pardoning, they see it as RedTrump wheeling out the old support crew because he feels insecure suggesting things are not so rosy in the inner circle.

Those bone spurs seem to have migrated to his head and grown inward.

There would be some who would suggest they've migrated to his head and grown outwards on either side.
They're just not visible.

It's bad luck that we only have a "like" button and not ways to indicate more emphatic approval of a post Shane  :D
