Have noticed this for some weeks but reckon something is brewing inside the club regarding contracts.

The older guys such as Simmo, Murphy and Gibbs refuse to lift when the game has been on the line over the last 6 weeks all 3 just play at the same rate....last year that was a quality our senior players had.

Could it be Bolton has told all 3s futures will be discussed at years end and no one is safe? And don't forget Kreuzer has yet to re sign and Cas has already said he is looking around.

Apart from Kreuzer the older guys are not the same players as they were last year and please don't give me this crap that they can no longer do it.
I agree there's been a huge change in those 3 this season.

Not sure what it would be though but maybe they are feeling they're about to get shafted out of the club.

I'll also add Marchbank to my comments....equally out of touch if not worse than Weitering and his normally strong marking which is the feature of his game was also poor....delivery by foot isnt his strong point but I thought it was highlighted today by some poor decision making.
I think young players need to come back after injury via the twos to get touch and confidence back and in JW"s case he needed resting a while back, I know we have injuries to ACOS and Rowe but
we need to look after our young players and adjust when necessary. I'd be be getting Cam OShea on the rookie list next season and having some backup given ACOS will probably get promoted to the senior list.

That sitter Mark he dropped for the bombres goal - did anyone else notice his hair was in his eyes?

I can't understand how you can be allowed to run out onto an AFL field with hair flopping around in front of your eyes without tying it up. Seems too stupid to be true. Can't think of many other players who don't tie it up.

Or Gibbs has told the senior blokes he's on his bike!  ;)
Finals, then 4 in a row!

He's still contracted tho so he might want to go (and I believe he does) but unless there's a good trade he won't be going.

Or maybe the senior players are stuffed from getting the team back from 5 goals down that they don't have much more to give...

We can live with it this this year as we develop but we must win these games next year. If games stopped at the 15 min of the last qtr this year we'd have 11 wins and playing finals. So we must take the next step next year and finish these games off.

Because we've butchered our second, third and fourth rounders, as well as most of our first rounders apart from the number ones.
Watson, Bootsma, Yarran, Boekhorst, Menzel and Lucas were all first rounders in the last 7 or 8 years, all gone except Boekhorst who soon will be, we traded pick 7 for Jaksch and pick 20 for Warnock.
It's no accident that our list is in such bad shape, and it can't be fixed in a year or two.

This cannot be overstated IMO.
We've failed miserably for multiple drafts. SOS has done wonders thus far. I expect another year of good recruiting and we'll look very different. Need to remember our 'talent' has one or two PS, or are kids still growing. Get another PS into the kids and the likes of Pickett and Marchbank and it will show.

We have taken top eight sides to the limit.

Essendon were at full strength and we were missing Cripps, Curnow, ACOS.

I still expect 10 wins next season

And Rowe, Phillips, Byrne....
If that side of drugcheats can only beat us by 8 in the dying minutes.... They should be worried, not us with 1/4 of our list injured and 1/4 just kids.
We'll get there ....

It's hard to lift when you're carrying three or four passengers!

We really can't hope to win when we have players who just don't get the pill.  In some cases it may be worth it for the long term development of the squad.  In other cases they are just making up the numbers.

Rather than questioning the effort and resolve of Simpson, Murphy and Gibbs, take a look at the blokes who aren't touching the footy.

Murphy has had a good a season this year as I've seen him play since 2011.

Time is catching up to Simpson.   He's been a warrior and if we didn't have so much d grade talent he might get the tap on the shoulder.

Gibbs is Gibbs.   What you see is very good and that's exactly what you get but don't expect another gear out of him.  He just doesn't have one.

If Simmo retires and Gibbs leaves then, depending on who we get in, we could be even more stretched in the midfield next year. Murphy will likely stay and I would like to retain Gibbs also but our drafting and trading is going to be crucial. Losing two of those three would make things very tough next year imo.

One thing that has pleased me this year is our ability to adjust and get back into games where we have fallen well behind. Pity we didn't end up winning alot of those but it shows and ability to stem the tide with our ability to shut the opposition down and play defensively.

Hopefully the is our Plan B next year.

That's a very good point Jim.

In previous years a poor start would have led to an absolute flogging but we have shown resilience to fight back.  We just need to eliminate the poor starts!

It was disappointing to yet again give up a last quarter lead.  We'd have to be close to the eight if we had won every game where we had led in the last quarter.  More depth, a gun or two and another season's development into the young blokes and we will win those games.

IMO Byrne is a critical player going forwards, obvious Simmo replacement but the injury record is a concern.
DrE is no more... you ok with that harmonica man?

I doubt that either Murphy or Gibbs will be going anywhere, Gibbs is contracted and Adelaide have already shown that they are unwilling to pay what he's worth, and with Silvagni running things the days of Carlton being bent over on trades is over.
Murphy is Carlton through and through, he's our captain and best player and he'll play out his days at Princes Park.
With Cripps and Curnow available and the natural development of Petrevski-Seton, Cunningham and Fisher our midfield will be competitive with any, but we badly need a back up ruckman to cover injuries to Kreuzer.
The only thing in this world worth more than a hill of beans is the Carlton Football Club.
