Studying for exams this next 4 months so not sure whether I will have time to keep up with it or not, so apologies now if I let it slide.

Probably doing something wrong, but when I put the given number into group search, it tells me it cant find group.

I am in medicine.
I started GP training 2 yrs back after 15 years in the hospital system. I have my fellowship exams coming up in July. Scares the carp out of me to be honest, but trying to do what I can to get through.

Still not able to find the group...

I am on the League page, I have been put in a random public league.
I hit the group button -> create or join a group
Put in the number 828775
Hit the "join group" button and it tells me "could not find group with that code

Is there some other place I should be searching for the group?

Try this
Login
Go to AFL (Left corner)
Scroll down to Leagues
At the top of the page you'll see Leagues Groups and Rivalries in the Left corner That's probably where you've been looking.

But in the other corner there is an option to create/join league, make default, leave league
Scroll across to create/join
The first option there should be to Join League
Enter the code in the Opening Post.

No problem...it took me a while to figure it out too.
It's a very cluttered site....information overload. :)
