I haven't seen the game, but our defence must have done some wonderful damage limitation work. Our defense were busy yet effective against the most dynamic forward line in the competition. Hats off to all the defenders. Weiters continues to build as a general under Daisy guidance. No Simo, Newy, or Jones. Although that's half our best backline out, we kept them honest. Well done.Young Willo and Stocker can hold their heads high. Casboult too can take a bow. 80 odd DE... and 8 or so intercepts. maybe he was a defender all along ?Plowman was cleaner and Marchy is building nicely. Quote Selected

Simply doesn't have the speed to go with 80% of the forwards he'll come up against. Jones has that extra pace required in the modern game. Quote Selected

Weitering too slow, Casboult not agile enough, Jones/Plowman not smart enough, Marchbank not physical enough etc best we can hope for is an off day or poor/limited supply Quote Selected
Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 8: Carlton vs. Collingwood Reply #97 – May 11, 2019, 07:42:59 pm As for the blow-out at the end, sounds like from what BB said once we lost the lead we were trying to win the game, (i.e. score ourselves) not limit the damage Quote Selected

Collingwood have an ability to kick fast scrappy goals and their last quarter proved it as their best players lifted and kreuzer ran out of puff.Umpiring has become an impossible task at league level. I don't blame the umpires for the shambles of today's game (much). i blame the afl making umpiring a stage management exercise where infringements are relegated in favour of a loose and moving ball. Numerous infringements both ways went ignored and rediculous frees awarded when it seemed an umpire wanted to get involved, having to make up their quota. The double 50 was idiotic, a case of the Carlton player setting it up. Yet if a player is clearly infringing the 6-6-6 rule they get a 'warning'. A warning at league level! Just in case the full time professionals don't know the rules.Liked McGovern today- he makes space better than any of our forwards and has a terrific mark. We countered collingwood well today, covering their ability to zone and cover options. Back line too played a strong and mostly organised game, with Thomas providing lots of run in the first half. Still, another loss. Its pretty disappointing. Hope they can bring the same standard for the rest if the year. Wins will comeGood summary. I think you had to actually be at the ground today to appreciate how hard the boys went. No-one shirked today. We just couldn't get it out of their forward line in the last 5 mins. No surprises really. Well drilled runners up v. perennial cellar dwellers. The debate about why the premier competition in the land still uses part-time, non-professional umpires will re-surface this week, as well it should. Too many instances of a baffling non-decision AGAINST Carlton being followed up almost immediately by a baffling decision awarded TO Collingwood. Some really cray cray stuff. Quote Selected

Murphy had an excellent game and the intensity was high. Collingwood are a high pressure side and we took it up to them. Our forwards are still a second or two off the pace in getting off the mark, which translates into easier spolis. It will get better as the team gel but it can be frustrating to see the moments of hesitation. Quote Selected
Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 8: Carlton vs. Collingwood Reply #101 – May 11, 2019, 08:11:41 pm Brodie Grundy on the ground throws is one handed to his teammate. Play on. Plowman bear hugged / thrown to the ground whilst trying to stop a shot at goal. Play on. On and on it went. Ridiculous stuff throughout the whole game. Lost the free kick count to Hawthorn 19 - 10 also... but this was on another level. Horror show. Quote Selected
Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 8: Carlton vs. Collingwood Reply #102 – May 11, 2019, 08:20:41 pm McGovern was quiet but kicked 3.Marchbank looked like he was building into the season. That was his best game in a Carlton jumper.Cunningham's best game for the club. When he plays like this we're a 5 goal better team at least. He did have 3 goal assists and kicked 2 himself. Gibbons was good again with 8 tackles.Setterfield really looked good. I think we need to trust him with more time in the middle. He's stronger than most of our midfielders - both tackling and getting his arms free once tackled. Dow took a step forward. Samo - so so so disappointing. Still a massive gap between his best and worst games. Sidebottom gave him a thrashing in the first half. Stocker showed why we rated him. He'll get a lot better than this. Unfortunately the opposition ruckman was the difference again. We couldn't match Grundy's work rate. Quote Selected
Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 8: Carlton vs. Collingwood Reply #103 – May 11, 2019, 08:43:33 pm I've read on here that Dow has a specialist kicking coach - what about Rocca ?If he can improve his kicking, he will be really something. His ability to find some tiny, rapidly closing gap between players at a stoppage, and break away into space (at pace) is really quite something, and quite rare, and certainly in today's game (with numbers around the ball), quite valuable.
