Jim Park Voting: 2019 AFL Rd 18: Carlton vs Gold Coast

In the 3rd quarter when H mucked up the pass and turned a certain goal into the GC goal, we were running at about an A. Unfortunately, we let the GC get back into the game before steadying to win. Had we been able to keep the momentum up … but that is for another day.

Explanations:
[2.5]   Liam Jones:   Not really enough votes to give these guys a realistic score, but … Jones was magnificent yesterday, especially in the air where he showed no fear. 11 marks and innumerable spoils, he dominated the defence.
[2]   Ed Curnow:   With Cripps struggling with an ankle, Ed took on the heavy lifting at the centre and did a great job, considering we beaten in the ruck.
[1.5]   Dale Thomas:   Some of the little things Daisy did were excellent. He had a great game and kept his opponent very quiet.
[1.5]   Levi Casboult:   Marking was brilliant, and his ruckwork was strong. Dominated his position.
[1]   Harry McKay:   Coud have had a lot more goals, but his kicking foot was elsewhere. Good marking and generally good play, but for a couple of terrible mistakes that cost us goals.
[1]   Sam Walsh:   Excellent in the middle and around the packs, doing a Cripps-like role.
[1]   Matthew Kennedy:   Probably Kennedy’s best game for us and 4 goals straight was a just reward. Every time he got the ball he was dangerous.
[1]   Jacob Weitering:   Like Jones, Weitering was dominant in defence and killed his opponents. 10 excellent marks.
[1]   Kade Simpson:   Probably Simmo’s best game for the year with real desperation. Excellent! Deserves more votes.
[1]   Sam Petrevski-Seton:   Very solid game by SPS. His disposal was excellent and his ability to make space was wonderful.
[0.5]   Marc Murphy:   His performance would have been worth at least 2 votes in any ordinary week. Excellent in the middle.
[0.5]   Michael Gibbons:   Prolific and intelligent, Gibbons had a strong game.
[0.5]   Jack Silvagni:   Solid when forward, jack did some great stuff in the middle of the ground and quietened the dangerous GC mids.

Honourable Mentions:
Lachie Plowman:   Plowman started like he was going to be BOG but quietened significantly after being bashed by King. He appeared to have some sort of niggle, but he did come back onto the ground and continued to starve the GC forwards of possession.
Will Setterfield:   Brilliant early but quietened a lot. Much like last week, in fact. Still could value.
Lachie O’Brien:   A very solid game from O’Brien this week, although he really does have to work on his kicking!
Nick Newman:   Any other week Newman would have been a vote getter, but most of the players contributed this time and his excellent efforts were overshadowed by the towering marks of Weitering, Casboult and Jones.

Casboult probably deserved more votes, it was his best game playing as a 2nd ruck against a reasonable opponent, and by some margin.

Clangers stopped me giving Walsh and Murphy votes, but they also had an influence.
